#1 Is the purpose an emotional appeal to Dems' desire to make the US more like Europe? To persuade them to take their foot off the gas? Because with ZIRP, QEn+1, and the unique position of the US dollar as the global reserve currency, Dems might argue: so what? The likelihood that it will all be paid back decreases a bit every day, and everyone knows it. So why stop the gravy train now? Why unnecessarily inflict pain (and lose voters), when they can dither until those nasty conservatives are forced to be the bad guys (and lose voters) at some later date. Where's the downside?

#2 The collapse of the USD would be a black swan of pteradactyl proportions. World trade would collapse.

#4 Nothing new BP. The whole 'no inflation' position at the Treasury and Fed is because they're only looking at all the Bubble priced housing on the banks listings as the baseline to protect their brotherhood from the consequences of their actions. Till the housing prices inflate back to that baseline, they'll do nothing. The rest of us are expendable to the ravages of day to day inflation at the food markets and gas stations.
