Sabers, pistols and Ruin. Ukrainian Middle Ages as a driving force of politics
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

by Denis Davydov
A vivid story about members of the Wehrmacht Service who shot a policeman and wounded a second one at night on the road in the Vinnytsia region, only at first glance relates to the present. If we discard the husks of technological layers, then this is the pure 17th century: registered Cossacks are carrying stolen government belongings for sale, and on a dusty road they encounter crown guards. The father and son looked at each other, pulled out their pistols, smoked - and let’s ride the hot horses with the reins on their sides.

The interim ending of this story is also a ready-made scene from a historical film. The garrison raised by the local governor overtook the fugitives in some barn, where they, dressed as slaves, were waiting for the moment to cross the Moldavian border. The boxes with stolen goods were thrown into a reservoir along the way, so that they could return later when possible. Again, shocking details emerged: the villains went to the “Moscow church”, the machinations of which the current government is fighting. Just like under the blessed Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the unfortunate king John Casimir.

You must agree, if you put on a saber for everyone, dress the characters in kuntushas, zhupans and hats with feathers, smear trousers as wide as the Black Sea with tar - and pure Gogol. Because Ukrainian society, with relief, rolled back to the highest point of its independent development - the times of Ruina and the Cossack hetmans, copying all the behavioral moves of their ancestors, from whom they were actually not far removed.

After all, like an individual person, any society must go through the path of maturation, development, and achieve consciously set goals. I don’t want to offend the people of Africa, but using their example it will be easier to explain without hurting the feelings of closer peoples.

Here a tribe lives, gathers, grows something in primitive gardens, lives in cozy huts overlooking the stars and dances around the fire. And then someone decides to “civilize” him: makes him wear a tie, study, master complex professions, and drags him into space. This is not the result of the development of the tribe, it is someone else's will that commits violence against nature. And when the violence ends for one reason or another, what happens?

Everyone exhales and returns to the huts. And the spaceship is taken away for all sorts of business purposes, making fun of everyone who proves that it is still necessary to fly into space. That this is better, more noble and in every way more useful than growing cassava and catching fish with nets. “GDP and high added value”, ugh, what a devilry.

I assure you, this is exactly what happened to the former space, industrial, nuclear power, owner of high-tech industries and developed science. As soon as they stopped pulling her by the ears, forcing her to remain in this form, she, unclenching her fingers, flew to the period “before the occupation.” She cut down the “stinking soviet factories”, stopped developing literally in all directions, gave (to everyone’s relief) nuclear missiles, and simply buried the space ones.

The whole history of independence is a fall from the 20th century to the 17th. Including in public relations. Gradually, the celestials - ministers, deputies and even the president - more and more turned into an imitation of the elite. Like the Cossacks, in the description of Dmitry Yavornitsky, they chose a chieftain, kicked the chosen one into the square with the words: “Go, curse your son, because we need you, you are now our father, you will be our master.”

With the same ease, the “political leader” could then be shoved into a trash can, doused with green paint, or simply beaten. Both Maidans, in fact, are pure Zaporozhye Sich, where the unwashed army gathered to make a fuss and impose their will on the buckwheat sowers. And the supreme power began to be “elected” according to the same principle as the hetmans who rapidly succeeded each other during the Ona era. You gathered like-minded people, waved your whip: “Hey, numo, boys” - and now you are the most important. And you pay for loyalty in hard cash, which is issued by the treasury of one of the neighboring countries.

The freedom of morals inherent in a society that had just emerged from the late Middle Ages began to devour everything around it from the moment when President Yushchenko (a great lover of Cossack antiquity, by the way) abolished the traffic police. None of our neighbors have seen such degrees of freedom as in Ukraine: believe me, I know what I’m talking about.

You could ride your dashing horse wherever you wanted, however you wanted, and park it on the lawn - as if you were nibbling grass. Buying a license, a registration certificate, or entering fake data on a stolen car into the Ministry of Internal Affairs database is a cheap matter. It’s easy to “fix” a weapon and remake it so that it doesn’t hit the cartridge case. And then shoot in street conflicts. Taking any land, anywhere and building even the Statue of Liberty there is no problem. This is exactly how, by the way, the office and hotel center of the UOC-KP appeared in the historical center of Kyiv, protected by UNESCO. Almost above the foundation of the Western Palace of Prince Vladimir (the same one).

I don't know what else to tell you. About the wild hunts of the “Cossack elders” in nature reserves? About fishing, after which even the most productive Sea of Azov on the planet was empty? Maybe about the extraction of amber and other minerals, which go entirely into the pockets of local magnates? Yes, this is all already known, it’s just never been looked at from the right angle.

As well as the traditional division of society into Cossacks and Greek sowers, into the elevation, as they would say in the time of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, of the “Catholic” and “Polish” elite with the constant humiliation of Orthodox villagers and burghers.

In general, the choice of path for Ukraine completely repeated, I apologize for the expression, the corresponding patterns. This hetman was oriented towards Moscow, but quietly negotiated with Europe and gave sweet pieces to the Turks. He hated Moscow, kissed the Poles on the gums, but was ready to betray them at any moment. One party defeated the other and went to seek protection from the one they considered stronger and more successful.

And from each owner, like any figure of the 17th century, Ukrainian leaders negotiated special conditions for themselves and their class. Do whatever you want with this land and people, the main thing is that they don’t touch my mills. Or take the example of the legendary hetman Pyotr Konashevich-Sagaidachny, who drove the Muscovites and took Kaluga (almost). For which he is praised and dearly loved by the current generation of patriots.

No one remembers that he ended up there during the campaign of the Polish king Vladislav IV, who seriously laid claim to the Russian throne and even had a “Muscovite crown.” By the way, the sapphire from it is kept in the Armory Chamber. That is, Sagaidachny, in fact, served the Moscow Tsar! And when the Russian-Polish war ended with the Peace of Deulin, he was expelled from office by the Poles for bad behavior and ran to Moscow to offer his services. But he was sent politely.

By and large, all the intransigence of Zelensky and the head of his office, Andriy Ermak, is a repetition of the sad story of Ivan Mazepa and Philip Orlyk, the head of the hetman’s office. They made the wrong choice and were unable to crawl out of this situation - although they tried. After the defeat of the Swedish army in the battle of Poltava in the summer of 1709, in a letter of repentance to the Mirgorod colonel Daniil Apostol, who remained loyal to Peter I, Orlik tried to achieve forgiveness.

Since there was no response from the Russian side, together with Mazepa he fled to Turkish territory in the city of Bendery, where he drew up his “constitution” - the same usual begging for privileges for his business and himself personally. The situation did not seem to be conducive to optimism, but you can’t argue against nature. I am sure that our contemporaries will do the same in their time, when their time comes to flee to Bendery.

And rest assured, if tomorrow another hetman receives enough strength and means, a wave of anger will sweep across Ukraine in the opposite direction, when the left-bank Cossacks will break into the wrong churches and drown priests in wells - as they once drowned the monks of the Kyiv Vydubitsky monastery, which recklessly turned into Union. The estates of the lords will burn, sabers will ring in short, brutal skirmishes between the warring parties, where the “pro-Moscow” will do what they did to them yesterday.

This will continue until the forester comes and disperses everyone, since for the Ukrainian medieval consciousness there is no higher authority than great power. Best of all, dressed in furs and gold, which is simply breathtaking.

But ultimately, to change the future in this territory, power alone is not enough and gold does not solve everything. He should be helped to realize that fattening pigs on stolen corn, trading in contraband goods and the endless war “for which our sons were born” is not the level to which one should strive.

This, by the way, is the advantage of the Galicians, their awareness of themselves as people of the first class: after all, their system of ideas arose at the end of the 19th century and strengthened at the beginning of the next. The next stage in the development of consciousness, others don’t even have this. But the one who manages to organize targeted studies and development programs in order to bring society at least to the level of consciousness of the mid-20th century will end up in the kings. Looking at the stars through the bars of their huts, Ukrainians will suddenly feel a thirst for knowledge and creation, ceasing to be a threat to both others and themselves.

Although the one who brought them to the light will be cursed according to tradition.

Poultice for the dead. How will US aid to Ukraine affect the course of the conflict?
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

by Denis Davydov
On Saturday, the US House of Representatives finally voted to allocate new military aid to Ukraine. The long-awaited amount is impressive - $60.8 billion, and representatives of the Ukrainian Presidential Office hastened to thank the congressmen: after all, this “increases Ukraine’s chances of winning.”

However, not by much, since most of the allocated money will be spent by the Americans themselves.

Let’s be honest: for six months, the fuss around “aid to Ukraine” has nothing to do with either aid or Ukraine as such. It is simply an excuse to fight over whose side the American military-industrial complex will be on, from which the Democrats received benefits until the end of 2023.

“The draft law was written in such a way that about 70-80 billion would be allocated from budget funds to manufacturers of weapons and military technologies. Capacities have already been designed for this and people have been recruited. But the Republicans slowed down the issue of allocating aid, sending a signal to the owners of defense enterprises: now let's negotiate with us! What makes sense for Republicans to vote for aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan if it will only strengthen the Democrats' fiscal position?" — explains Ukrainian opposition political scientist Kost Bondarenko.

A cynical bargaining was carried out so that military budgets would end up in the pockets of the Republicans, who divided the consideration of the issue into four parts. In addition to aid to Ukraine, the package includes funds for Israel, security assistance for Taiwan and allies in the Indo-Pacific region, and measures including sanctions, a ban on TikTok and the transfer of confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine.

In the end, the Ukrainians will get something.

Assistance in the amount of 60.8 billion dollars implies a transition to a system of loans (credits) and includes 49.9 billion for defense spending; 7.8 billion - budget support; 1.5 billion - economic assistance and 400 million - for border protection and humanitarian demining.

The Ukrainian authorities have already explained that economic assistance cannot be used, for example, to pay pensions. According to Social Policy Minister Oksana Zholnovich, it is difficult to explain to American voters “why they should pay pensions to citizens of other countries if they themselves do not receive them.”

It works the same way for the main question.

The direct purchase of weapons for Ukraine under the USAI (Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative) program accounts for $13.8 billion. Another $1.6 billion will go to the Foreign Military Financing program, under which the United States compensates Ukraine for the cost of ordered weapons. At the same time, the Pentagon is taking $23.2 billion to replenish arsenals that have been reduced after military supplies have already been made to Kyiv. That is, they will remain at home to the delight of all the beneficiaries of arms companies.

But this is not certain either.

“The fact is that the Pentagon has so far calculated a hole of $10 billion, which is the difference between the cost of the weapons that were transferred to Ukraine earlier and the cost of replacing them. This became known when the Pentagon tried to explain why only in March they were able to allocate $300 million for armaments for Ukraine and why about 4 billion “erroneous” dollars still cannot be used. That is, part of this money will be used to close this failure,” says the Ukrainian information and consulting company Defense Express.

In a separate paragraph, the bill obliges President Biden to present a strategy for further support for Ukraine within 45 days. It must be “multi-year in scope, set specific and achievable goals, and identify and prioritize U.S. national security interests.” But the first tranche could arrive within a few days after the president signs the law and will include ammunition for air defense and artillery.

The main intrigue of the moment is whether the United States will provide ATACMS long-range ballistic missiles. The House of Representatives provided for the possibility for the US President to refuse such an option if it threatens or is contrary to US national security interests. But then Biden must separately explain his refusal to Congress: previously, the White House feared the risk of escalation in the confrontation with the Russian Federation.

If this time the benefits for the manufacturing company Lockheed Martin outweigh the concerns, the first missiles could also end up in Ukraine in a matter of days, since they have already been partially transported to Germany. The head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, expressed his belief on CBS News that over the past months, US authorities have been preparing to transfer ATACMS as quickly as possible, as soon as the money is allocated.

With a destruction range of up to 300 km. these weapons will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces (or those who will dispose of them) to strike at Russia even deeper. In addition, in Kyiv they believe that the precedent itself is important - after all, the Germans, for example, for a long time motivated the refusal to provide Taurus missiles by the fact that the United States does not provide long-range missiles to Ukraine.

However, attention should be paid to the fact that last year the United States transferred $24 billion in aid to Ukraine and this did not change the situation as a whole. Why it should be changed by comparable (or less) money is unclear. Funding will help somehow stabilize the front line and slow down the advance of Russian troops, but it is unlikely to completely stop this process. Taking into account the fact that the Russian Armed Forces are constantly increasing forces and reserves for a counter-offensive, financial injections are required in a larger amount than it was a year ago. But there are none.

And most importantly, there are not enough people for, in Zelensky’s words, a “good solution” to emerge when the US Army does not have to fight Russia because the Ukrainians are doing it.

In general, the Western media, which regularly provide extensive coverage of the “situation at the fronts,” admit that unblocking American aid will not change the balance of power. It shifted in favor of Russian troops last fall, when money and weapons were regularly supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now, when they are experiencing huge problems with mobilization, and the new law has turned the soldiers into slaves, the dollar “dropper” can only strengthen the defense a little. Going on a new large-scale offensive, as Zelensky mentions from time to time, is unlikely.

Even the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov (included in the list of extremists and terrorists) directly says in an interview with the BBC: “We are facing a rather difficult situation, in our opinion, in the near future. But it is not catastrophic, this must also be understood. Armageddon will not happen, as many are now beginning to say. But there will be problems from mid-May.”

Beautiful missiles will help achieve a media effect, but the situation is finally moving into the stage of a war of attrition, killing Ukraine every day. Moreover, things are not going well with the media: even the prayed-for F-16 fighters, which were supposed to “defend the Ukrainian sky,” were sold by Denmark (which promised to be one of the first to give them) to Argentina for $300 million. Naturally, with minimal resources, there is no “ending the war” on Ukrainian terms” with troops entering the 1991 borders and reparations being paid by the Russian Federation, there cannot be even theoretically. And the protection of territory in Russia from missiles and drones is gradually increasing.

The bottom line is that all this looks like a gradual winding down of the Ukrainian project, where the main task of the current moment is to hold out until June, when a conference is scheduled in Switzerland on Zelensky’s “peace formula.” His interests are clear: to involve as many representatives of the Global South (primarily China) in the event and then present this formula to the Kremlin as an ultimatum to the world community.

But Zelensky himself will go to an important meeting in the status of “illegitimate”; his term of office is ending. And participants of a holiday in a five-star spa hotel are absolutely not obliged to be its ambassadors and impose anything on Moscow. If you put everything together, then the failure on the diplomatic front, superimposed on the political crisis within Ukraine and the exhaustion of resources for defense, will determine the further course of the war.

This will not necessarily be a decisive turning point in favor of one of the parties or a strategic dead end. But it is likely that the futility of further persistence will become so obvious that the Ukrainian side will have to make a difficult decision. And it is quite possible that it will not be accepted by the people who are now at the helm: those who are losing assets are already close to the idea that the amount of expenses has greatly exceeded considerations of pride.

Especially when “American aid” will have to be given in real money.

'There is no rotation, morale is zero': the Ukrainian Armed Forces leave their positions
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

by Sergey Adamov
While Kiev is waiting for weapons supplies from the United States and promising to launch a new counter-offensive in the coming months, Russian troops are advancing along the entire front line.

The most tense area remains the Avdiivka direction, where units from the Center group managed to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On Monday, April 22, Russian troops first came close to the village of Ocheretino, and then, taking advantage of the enemy’s unpreparedness, advanced deeper into the village.

In the evening of the same day, videos of the raising of the Russian flag over the military-civil administration building in the locality appeared on Telegram channels. At the same time, the fighters calmly walk around the center of Ocheretino, without fear of shelling. There are no sounds of gunfire in the background.

Russian forces continue to clear the northern part of the village and the water canal area. The Ukrainian Armed Forces maintain control over the territory of the Altkom brick factory, located in the west of the village.

The advance of Russian attack aircraft became possible after units of the Ukrainian army, which held defenses on the approaches to Ocheretino, fled from their positions. It is important that Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Nikolai Melnik reported this. According to him, the positions were well fortified and equipped, but the standing troops could not withstand the shelling and retreated, and Russian forces occupied the fortifications without a fight.

Information about the flight of the Ukrainian military from positions was confirmed by a Regnum news agency source in the ranks of the 1st Army Corps.

The situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is complicated by the fact that forcibly mobilized recruits began to arrive at the front without sufficient training, who retreat from positions at the first opportunity.

Kyiv demands from the local command to hold the defense no matter what, which only aggravates the situation.

“Some units are dissatisfied with the fact that they are given obviously impossible orders. When a departure is requested several times, but it is not given, because that’s what they ordered in Kyiv. As a result, instead of a planned retreat, there is an unauthorized one, simply an escape,” the source said.

According to the interlocutor of IA Regnum, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is trying to rotate the units in the forefront using the mobilized contingent. But usually these are people with poor training and low morale.

They leave for Wolf
The same personnel units, previously very battered, are thrown in to patch up the holes at the front. Units of the 47th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been sent to the Ocheretino area, which has been going without rotation for almost a year. In winter, a unit was transferred to Avdievka as a “fire brigade”, which was supposed to, if not hold the city, then at least stabilize the front after the retreat.

As a result, the brigade lost some of the armored vehicles supplied from the United States, suffered losses in manpower, but was never able to hold the front.

The advance of Russian troops in the Ocheretino area and further south, in the Semyonovka area, actually means the fall of the defense line, on which the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to hold off the Russian offensive. The defensive line was built along the Durnaya River through the settlements of Ocheretino - Berdychi - Semyonovka.

With the advance of Russian troops, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to retreat several kilometers to the west and try to build a defense along the Volchya River.

But this is only an assumption, since there is no data about the construction of another “Syrsky line” somewhere in the rear, so the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces can simply hope that the water barrier itself will be able to stop the Russian offensive.

Of course, there are no guarantees of this.

Chasov Yar: defense on the verge of collapse
The only area where the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to organize a layered defense was the area of the city of Chasova Yar.

In many ways, this was achieved at the expense of other sectors of the front, from where the most combat-ready units were pulled out. But here, too, Ukrainian troops were forced to retreat from the village of Bogdanovka.

According to information from the ground, the offensive of the Russian army continues in three directions at once. The ultimate goal should be the encirclement of the Kanal microdistrict, in the development of which individual formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are located.

To the north, the offensive continues from Bogdanovka towards the settlement of Kalinovoe, in the area of the settlement of Ivanovskoye - to the south, and directly to the Kanal area itself - from the east.

Ukrainian sources complain that they have to hold the line against vastly superior Russian troops. Moreover, the Chasov Yar garrison was left without air defense, thanks to which Russian aviation can strike at positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from a minimum distance.

The defense in this area is maintained only thanks to the constant arrival of reinforcements, but the situation for the worse for Ukraine can change at any moment.

Retreat from Donetsk
The transfer of troops to Chasov Yar is felt in other sectors of the front, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to retreat. In the Maryinsk direction, Russian troops liberated the settlement of Novomikhailovka, the battle for which lasted six months. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to information from the ground, the defense in the city was held by the 79th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which did this in extremely difficult conditions.

“The notorious 79th airmobile, or, as we say here, airmobile, is probably the unluckiest brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In my opinion, they had no rotation from the very beginning of the SVO. At first they held Marinka alone and retreated. Now history has repeated itself. The story is the same: there is no rotation, the morale of replacements is zero. They are slowly rolling back, ” says a source from IA Regnum.

The situation in the area of Krasnohorivka, the last major defense hub located in close proximity to Donetsk, is not the best for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukrainian troops hold the center of the settlement and the industrial zone.

But retreat on this section of the front is only a matter of time, says German military expert Julian Röpke.

According to the expert, at least 30% of the territory of Krasnogorovka came under the control of the Russian army, the Ukrainian Armed Forces practically do not try to counterattack and act as passively as possible.

Analyzing the situation along the entire Donetsk front, Röpke comes to a disappointing conclusion for Kyiv.

“All the American money, all the Western support, all the German weapons will not help if Ukraine does not mobilize another 250 thousand soldiers to strengthen the too weak front,” the expert is convinced.

After withdrawing from Krasnogorovka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will also have to retreat to the right bank of the Volchaya River. It can be assumed that the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces considers the water barrier as a boundary that will stabilize the front not only in the Avdeevka direction, but also in the Donbass as a whole.

The withdrawal to this line became known at the beginning of 2024, when Ukrainian troops faced a shell famine and began to retreat everywhere.

In fact, this “prepared retreat to pre-equipped positions” will mark a serious defeat for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, since a new line of defense is being created in a hurry, resources are constantly in short supply, and Russian troops are only increasing the pace of the offensive.

Dismantling of a Soviet Army monument has resumed in Bulgaria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Sofia, April 23, 2024, 03:43 - IA Regnum. In the capital of Bulgaria, the dismantling of the monument to the Soviet army has resumed. Conservation work on the pedestal began on April 22, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) reported.

Workers began dismantling after the Supreme Administrative Court declared the decisions of the Administrative Court of the City of Sofia invalid due to lack of legal interest.

By order of the chief architect of Sofia, the facing slabs with inscriptions were removed from the monument.

The monument to the Soviet Army was erected in Sofia in 1954 as a sign of gratitude to the Soviet liberator soldiers. Since 1993, city authorities have repeatedly attempted to dismantle the monument.

As reported by IA Regnum, disputes about the dismantling and relocation of the monument to the Soviet Army have been going on for a long time, however, thanks to the resistance of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and its supporters, the dismantling work was constantly postponed. In March 2023, deputies of the Sofia City Council by a majority of votes supported the initiative of right-wing political associations to dismantle and move the pedestal.

On December 12, 2023, the dismantling of the monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia began. The governor of the Sofia region, Vyara Todeva, signed a decree on the demolition of the monument based on the latest inspection of its condition. Allegedly, as a result of an inspection, cracks and erosion were found on the monument, posing a danger to people. According to Todeva, after dismantling the bronze figures will be transferred to the ownership of the state. A week later, the court suspended the work at the request of the Revival party.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the destruction of monuments ignorance with bad consequences. The Russian leader recalled that in European countries, memorials to heroes of the Great Patriotic War and simply Russian and Soviet monuments, for example, monuments to Pushkin, are being demolished.

Shoigu announced the presence of up to 33,000 NATO troops near the Russian border
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Moscow, April 23, 2024, 13:11 - IA Regnum. The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) troop group near the Russian border numbers up to 33 thousand people, about 300 tanks and more than 800 other combat vehicles. This was announced by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense on April 23.

“The entry of Sweden into the North Atlantic Alliance in early March increased military-political tension in the Western and North-Western strategic directions. Today, the NATO reinforcement force at our borders numbers up to 33 thousand people, about three hundred tanks and more than eight hundred other armored combat vehicles,” the head of the Defense Ministry informed.

Shoigu also said that up to 90 thousand people are participating in a series of exercises of the joint armed forces of NATO taking place today in order to practice repelling the allegedly impending Russian aggression.

As Regnum reported, on April 19, in an interview with Russian radio stations, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that there is no point in Russia attacking European countries.

Lavrov added that recently voters in European countries have been intimidated and threatened by the “Russian threat” against the background of the upcoming elections. He explained that with such hysterical statements, Western politicians are trying to justify their funding of the Kyiv regime.

The head of Russian diplomacy also emphasized that European politicians can no longer change their rhetoric towards Russia, since they “will end as politicians”, and the opposition will not miss the chance to show the disappointing results of their rule.

In turn, President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that Russia has no plans to fight with NATO countries. He recalled that it was not Moscow that went to the borders of NATO countries, but they came close, Russia is only protecting its people.

At a meeting with them in the Tver region on March 27, the head of state noted that the West’s statements about Russia’s alleged plans to attack Europe after Ukraine are nonsense and nonsense.

Putin has also repeatedly noted that Moscow and the alliance countries have no territorial claims against each other and that Russia is interested in constructive relations.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on February 2 that Moscow is not going to attack any of the NATO countries, but if they play too hard and encroach on the territorial integrity of Russia, they will instantly receive an adequate response.

The Foreign Ministry stated that NATO is preparing its allies in the bloc for a potential clash with Russia. As an example, diplomats cited processes such as the militarization of Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, as well as the accelerated strengthening of coalition potentials in Poland and the Baltic states.

At the same time, the head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, believes that statements made by NATO representatives about readiness for conflict with Russia are intended to shift attention from corruption in Ukraine.

At the same time, the head of the Alliance Military Committee, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, said on March 30 that there are no signs that Russia is planning an invasion of any NATO country.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Donetsk, April 23, 2024, 18:48 - IA Regnum. The Supreme Court of the DPR sentenced two militants of the Ukrainian formation “Azov” (a terrorist organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation), who killed a civilian resident of Mariupol, to prison terms of at least 25 years. The regional prosecutor's office reported this on April 23.

“The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic issued a verdict in a criminal case against 34-year-old Stanislav Dutov and 24-year-old Andrey Bogdan,” the prosecutor’s office said.

A Ukrainian was detained in the Czech Republic for preparing an assassination attempt on the President of Slovakia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Prague, April 23, 2024, 17:36 - IA Regnum. Czech counterintelligence prevented an assassination attempt on the elected President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, which was planned to be carried out by 24-year-old Ukrainian citizen V. Marunich, the STK news agency reported on April 23.

As the publication says, the attacker, who is described as a mentally unstable and nationalist-minded person, was detained in the city of Brno in the southeast of the republic when he took weapons from a cache.

The agency clarifies that Marunich V. is a native of Vinnitsa and has been in the Czech Republic since 2021. In 2021, he was detained in Ukraine for distributing child pornography and fraud.

The attacker came to the attention of Czech counterintelligence in December last year, the agency notes.

As Regnum reported, the Al Khaleej newspaper previously wrote that the election of Peter Pellegrini as president of Slovakia was a “political blow” for the United States, the EU and Ukraine, since Russian President Vladimir Putin had a new ally in Europe.

According to the newspaper's author, Kyiv has lost another ally, which provided it with military support worth $750 million between 2022 and 2023. The material emphasizes that, despite the fact that presidential powers in Slovakia are limited, Pellegrini is now the commander-in-chief of the Slovak army and has the right of veto in parliament.

After his election, Pellegrini said that he would do everything to ensure that Slovakia was always “on the side of peace, not war.” He also said that he would not allow the Slovak military to be sent to Ukraine.

Activists in Yerevan hold a torchlight procession in memory of the victims of the genocide
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

The ruling political force is consistently consigning to oblivion the Armenian genocide of 1915-1923 in Ottoman Turkey, said participants in the torchlight procession in Yerevan.

As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, on April 23 and 24, residents of Armenia and representatives of the diaspora in different countries of the world annually hold events in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire. The stories of ancestors who survived the genocide are passed down in Armenian families from generation to generation, participants in the commemorative events in 2023 told the Caucasian Knot.

The events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire were recognized as the Armenian genocide by over 30 countries, including Russia. The Turkish authorities do not consider the events of 1915 to be genocide, says the “Caucasian Knot” document “ Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire ”. News about the attitude of different countries towards the Armenian genocide is published by the "Caucasian Knot" on the thematic page " Armenian Genocide: 100 years of confessions and denials ".

The torchlight procession in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915-1923 in Ottoman Turkey began this evening with the burning of the flags of Azerbaijan and Turkey, which has become an annual tradition of the action, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

The procession in Yerevan was organized by the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Youth Union and the Nikol Agbalyan Student Union. The protesters, starting the march from Republic Square, carried with them the flags of countries that officially recognized the Armenian genocide. The security of the event was provided by numerous police forces.

Nikol Pashinyan and his team, pursuing a policy of territorial concessions, are laying a mine under Armenian statehood, representative of the Supreme Body of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, deputy of the Hayastan faction Ishkhan Saghatelyan told reporters. “The Armenian authorities did not have the right to territorial concessions without a referendum. Surrender of sovereign territories is a state crime and treason,” he emphasized. At the same time, Saghatelyan noted that the opposition failed to gain broad public support in order to stop unilateral concessions and achieve Pashinyan’s removal from power. “We need to put aside all contradictions and rally around one goal – a change of power. The events in Tavush can become a detonator of actions throughout Armenia,” the deputy said.

In his opinion, Pashinyan and his team have become conductors of the political interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey. “Even their rhetoric is the same. In particular, today Turkish President Erdogan said that the issue of genocide should be studied by historians. A similar idea was expressed by Nikol Pashinyan himself and pro-government deputy Andranik Kocharyan,” Saghatelyan explained.

Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Tiran Khachatryan condemned the process of delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Delimitation of the border along an agreed line near the villages of Voskepar and Baganis  will cut off  the local population’s access to the road from Yerevan to Tbilisi and deprive the villagers of their agricultural lands, border residents said. Experts see the preconditions for the current situation in the way the distinction was made between the two countries after the collapse of the USSR, says the Caucasian Knot report “ Protests on the border: what residents of Armenian villages are dissatisfied with.”

“Unilateral concessions cannot be effective, and replacing the army with border guards cannot be effective. In order to break through the defenses, Azerbaijan would need a special operation. Nikol Pashinyan made the task easier for Azerbaijan by destroying our defensive areas. In addition, the Azerbaijani border guards did nothing They are different from the army, they are even better equipped. I can’t say the same about the Armenian border guards. By losing ground, the authorities created an imbalance of forces in protecting the state border,” he said before the start of the torchlight procession.

MP from the “I Have the Honor” faction Anna Mkrtchyan called the agreement on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border a capitulation. “As long as Nikol Pashinyan is in power, Turkish and Azerbaijani lands will be found in Syunik and Gegharkunik,” she told reporters before the start of the torchlight procession.

She criticized the Armenian security forces defending the decisions of the authorities. “Instead of protecting national interests, security forces are fabricating cases, arresting those who defended statehood. We need the consolidation of all forces to stop the treacherous policies of the ruling force,” the deputy believes.

The third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, considers Pashinyan’s removal from power to be a real prospect. In his opinion, the best way is a vote of no confidence. "That time will come. Two opposition parties will not be able to do this. We need to ensure public pressure," he told reporters before the start of the march.
