Afghanistan
Taliban Closes Health Centers In Nangarhar Districts
[ToloNews] The Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
provincial council claimed Tuesday that the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
have closed all health centers in five districts of the province over the past several days.

Council members say that the closure of these centers causes huge difficulties for residents.

"The Taliban have closed health centers in Sherzad, Hasarak, Khogyani, Sorkhroad and Lalpor districts," said Ajmal Omar, a member of the provincial council.

The district’s patients coming to Jalalabad city also confirmed that the Taliban closed health centers in their districts.

"The Taliban and government forces were fighting in our area and our two children got maimed and the Taliban planted mines there and closed health centers so that is why I brought my children here to the city hospital," said Hakim, a resident of Sherzad district.

"In my area, the hospital is closed and I had a stomach problem and the way (to medical treatment) is long, and I had to leave my school as well," said Kheyal Mohammad, resident of Hasarak district.

Local officials also confirm the closure of the health centers.

"A number of doctors were facing threats and we did not take any action to avoid further issues but tribal elders had promised us that they will solve the issue," said Attaullah Khogyani, governor front man.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, there was another explosion...
the Taliban acknowledge the problem and say it was done in response to the closure of health centers by local Nangarhar officials in their areas.

Nangarhar health officials have not commented on the issue.

Syrian fighters abandon Libyan War, flee towards Italy
[ALMASDARNEWS] Some Syrian fighters that went to fight in Libya have since abandoned the war and fled to Italia, opposition media sites claimed, as cited by al-Watan.

According to the reports, at least 17 of the Syrian fighters have already arrived in Italia after spending a short period of time inside Libya.

The reports said that the Syrian fighters intentionally accepted the deployment to Libya in order to later escape into Italia.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), some 2,400 Syrian fighters have already traveled to Libya thus far.

Another 1,200 fighters from a number of factions in the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) are expected to make their way to Libya in the coming weeks.

Last month, Bloomberg News released a story about The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
offering contracts to Syrian fighters in order to help the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).

Since then, several fighters have been seen inside of Libya, most notably near the capital city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...

At least 10 killed since Sunday as protests endure
[Rudaw] At least 10 protesters have been killed and more than 150 maimed since a wave of violence resumed in many central and southern provinces on Sunday, breaking a period of relative tranquility.

In an official statement sent to Rudaw English via Whatsapp on Tuesday, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) announced that at least 10 protesters have been killed since Sunday, and more than 150 protesters and security members maimed during renewed festivities between protesters and security forces.

According to IHCHR, the highest loss of life has occurred in Baghdad, where four were killed after protesters blocked Muhammad al-Qasim highway, a major road in Iraq’s capital. Security forces used excessive force, including live ammunition to disperse and push back the protesters.

According to the statement, more than 85 protesters have been detained by the security forces in different provinces over the past three days.

Iraqis have been protesting in central and southern parts of Iraq for more than 100 days, demanding real changes in the country and threatening to topple the political class that has held power since 2005.

Baghdad Operation Command released a statement on Tuesday accusing "trouble makers" within the protest movement of shooting at security forces. One security member is said to have been injured by protesters, according to the Command.

"This morning we have confirmed a dangerous development, which is the presence of button men using deadly weapons with silencers inside the demonstrations and shooting towards security forces," the statement read, adding that the injured security member was immediately transferred to hospital.

Protesters have been met with brutal force from security forces, many being killed after being hit with tear-gas canisters.

More than 520 protesters and members of the security forces have been killed and around 17,000 more maimed since October 1.

After weeks of protests and a direct call to step down from the highest Shiite authority in Iraq, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi resigned from office and has been leading a caretaker government for more than a month.

In a government meeting on Tuesday, Abdul-Mahdi called on protesters to remain peaceful and avoid blocking roads or preventing students from attending classes.

"Blocking the schools and universities is not peaceful protests, and we don’t think they have any links with the peaceful protests," he said.

"How can we make changes when schools and universities are closed, or prevent public employees from reaching their work place?"

Iraq’s various political blocs have been locked in talks since Abdul-Mahdi’s resignation to nominate a suitable candidate to replace him ‐ no easy feat for such a deeply entrenched elite in such a deeply divided society.

Several names have been put forward for the job, but all of them have been rejected by the protesters in Iraq and its safe haven in Baghdad, Tahrir Square.

The most recent candidates put forward by political parties are Ali al-Shukri, former Minister of Planning from 2011 to 2014 and MP from 2014 to 2018, and Mohammed Toufiq al-Alawi, who served as Minister of Communication from 2006 to 2007, and again from the end of 2010-2012, when he resigned.

The third shortlisted is Mustafah al-Kadhimi, head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service since 2016. He has worked to purge the influence of parties over the institution, and is seen as the least partisan among the candidates.

Israeli F-35 accidentally reveals location over secret nuclear facility
Whoops!
[ALMASDARNEWS] An Israeli F-35 stealth aircraft revealed to the world both its own location and that of Israel’s primary nuclear facility on Monday when it turned on a publicly viewable transponder signal.

Deep in the Negev desert of southern Israel lies the Shimon Peres Nuclear Research Center, also called the Dimona reactor, the center of Israel’s nuclear research and weapons programs. While its location isn’t exactly top secret, it’s impossible for civilians to get close to it; the Israel Defense Forces have even been known to shoot down their own planes when they don’t have permission to fly over Dimona.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
while one Israeli Air Force F-35I "Adir" stealth fighter flying over Dimona on Monday wasn’t at risk of being shot down, it did drop its ghostly act for about 20 minutes when it turned on a publicly viewable transponder signal, causing it to appear on civilian radars.

IRGC Commander & ‘Soleimani Ally’ Shot Dead By Masked Assassins On Motorcycle
[ZH] An elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander has been shot dead by masked assailants in front of his house in southwestern Iran. Crucially, he was a mid-range to possibly top commander of the IRGC's hardline domestic wing, the Basij militia, and a close ally of recently assassinated Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani, reports state news IRNA on Wednesday.

The details clearly suggest that it was an assassination ‐ at this point by an unknown entity or group ‐ given two men riding a motorcycle drove by and essentially executed him in the street.

Reuters has described the slain Basij militia commander, Abdolhossein Mojaddami, as "an ally of Qassem Soleimani" ‐ who was himself assassinated by US drone strike on January 3rd.

"IRNA said that Abdolhossein Mojaddami, a Basij commander in the city of Darkhovin in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, was shot on Tuesday in front of his home by two men riding a motorcycle," Reuters reports based on official Iranian state media quotes. "There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, IRNA said."

The Associated Press added a few further limited details as follows:

Two gunmen on a motorcycle, armed with an assault rifle and a hunting rifle, ambushed Mojaddami, IRNA reported. Other Iranian media said the gunmen's faces were covered with masks and that four shots were fired.

US forces prevent Russian military patrol on Syria-Kurdistan Region border: reports
[Rudaw] A Russian military convoy was prevented from approaching the Semalka border crossing area by US forces on Tuesday, according to media and observatory reports.

A US soldier told Rudaw they will not allow Russians near the area, which marks the border between northeast Syria and the Kurdistan Region .

"If they do come here, we are going to stop them and try to ask for help," a US soldier told Rudaw while waiting on the Qamishli-Malikiya road to block Russian patrols.

Russian forces were deployed to northeast Syria to patrol the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) later reported that a Russian patrol was stopped by US forces on the al-Malakiya (Derik) - Maabadah highway north of Rmelan, Hasaka province, before it could reach the border.

"The Russian patrol returned to [Qamishli] airbase after being prevented by the Americans from reaching the SDF-controlled crossing of Smelka on the border with Iraq," said the UK-based monitor group.

North Press Agency (NPA), a local news outlet with close ties to the SDF, reported Monday’s prevention of the Russian patrol, saying that both forces had previously agreed Russia must only stay on the Syria-Turkey border without approaching Qamishli or Hasaka.
