New Jersey Man Charged after Throwing ‘Coronavirus Party' With 47 People in Attendance
[Gateway Pundit] A man from Ewing, New Jersey, was charged after throwing a "coronavirus party" with 47 people in his apartment on Friday night.

Wade E. Jackson, 47, was issued summonses for "obstructing the administration of law or other governmental function" and violating the "Emergency and Temporary Acts."

The police were tipped off by an anonymous call about the party.

In a statement about the party on Facebook, the Ewing Police Department reminded the public that under Democrat Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order "gatherings of individuals, such as parties, celebrations, or other social events, are cancelled, unless otherwise authorized by any part of this Order. The State Director of Emergency Management, who is the Superintendent of the State Police, shall have the discretion to make clarifications and issue orders related to this provision."

Armed hero stops possible mass shooting
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] How can you tell whether or not the liberal media will pick up an incident of gun violence and turn it into a national story? It’s simple: If the shooting is successful, they will give it wall-to-wall coverage for a week. If it is stopped by an armed citizen, however, the liberal media will almost always pretend it never happened or glance over the story with only brief mention or coverage.

This oversight is perhaps a bit more understandable at the moment, given the national coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
crisis consuming the country and dominating media coverage. But it’s still absolutely worth highlighting the heroic story of a man who on Friday shot and stopped an armed shooter who opened fire on shoppers at a shopping center in Oklahoma.

"A man with a concealed carry permit reportedly told arriving officers that he shot the woman after she started shooting at customers outside the shopping center," the Tulsa World reports. "Video reportedly showed the woman was involved in an earlier altercation in the parking lot. The woman left the shopping center and returned about three minutes later, when she whipped out a rod and opened fire, according to the news release."

Ultimately, the hero, who likely saved numerous lives, was questioned and released by the police.

CBS News veteran Maria Mercader dies from coronavirus in New York
[NYPOST] Award-winning CBS News veteran Maria Mercader died of COVID-19 in a New York hospital on Sunday, the network announced.

She was 54.

The Manhattan native, who covered breaking news for CBS since joining the network in 1987, had been on medical leave for an unrelated matter when she was infected, the network said while confirming her death Sunday.

Dan Fake but Accurate Rather
...the man who put the BS in CBS News. In 2004 he put on a news story that highlighted dissatisfaction with Lt. George W. Bush in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam war. This was almost casually--but gleefully--debunked by the Blogosphere at large. Rather's face was rubbed in journalistic mud, four of his staff were fired, and within a short time his 43-year (about the same length as Muammar Qadaffi's) career had settled to the bottom, from whence he periodically emits a bubble, which proves he's not dead yet...
called the loss a "hard hit to the heart."

"A paragon of grit and grace, she embodied the best of the @CBSNews mission. Millions of Americans learned of the world through her efforts. Now our world is less with her loss," he tweeted.

CBS News president Susan Zirinsky called Mercader ‐ who had battled cancer for more than 20 years ‐ a "warrior" and a "gift we cherished."

#7  Retired U.K. pathology professor John Lee notes (The Spectator, March 27 article) the distortion of our understanding due to inconsistent death certification practices.

He says we have flipped from under-recording flu as a cause of death in past years to over-recording COVID-19 as the single cause of death.

This inconsistency in the way we record deaths screws up our understanding of just how lethal this infection actually is.

And it's very likely that different nations today are applying different methods in the way they record deaths where COVID-19 antibodies were present. This could be a large part of the explanation for the extraordinary disparities in the recorded death rates between near neighbor nations in Europe, for example.

President Trump Tells Prince Harry and Meghan Markle US Will Not Pay for Their Full-Time Security After Move to LA
[GatewayPundit] Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided this past week to relocate to Los Angeles. According to reports the move was made amid the coronavirus pandemic to avoid paying taxes in two countries. The former royals were also hoping the US would pay for their security costs.

That won’t be happening.

President Trump tweeted out to the couple on Sunday that the US will not pay for their security.

And for the record, Meghan Markle told reporters in January that the couple would not move to California until President Trump left office.

That didn’t last long.

Illegals demand U.S. taxpayer-funded coronavirus stimulus checks
[World Tribune] Open borders proponents are demanding that illegal immigrants receive coronavirus stimulus checks.

The coronavirus relief package passed by the House and Senate and signed by President Donald Trump on Friday includes $1,200 federal checks for most American citizens and those considered "resident aliens," such as permanent lawful residents in the U.S. on green cards.

The George Soros-funded United We Dream, the National Immigrant Justice Center, and the National Immigration Law Center ‐ which represent the roughly 11 to 22 million illegals living in the United States ‐ "are pleading with the federal government to cut federal checks" to illegals who have Individual Tax Identification Number (ITINs), Breitbart News reported on March 27.

United We Dream tweeted: "The Corona stimulus package fails immigrant communities. It fails to include ALL people when it comes to financial and health care access. Regardless of status, we are all trying to get through the pandemic."

"Everyone, regardless of immigration status, must have access to testing, medical care & financial relief. Congress must ensure that all Americans can focus on keeping their families & communities safe & healthy," the National Immigrant Justice Center said in a tweet.

On online petition demanding the checks go to illegals proclaims: "Cash payments must go to all taxpayers, including immigrants who pay using an ITIN ... coronavirus testing and care must be free and accessible to all: Amend Emergency Medicaid to cover Covid-19 costs, so patients get care regardless of immigration status."

Gov. Greg Abbott Issues Mandatory 14-Day Quarantine For Travelers Crossing Louisiana-Texas Border
[Federalist] Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued an executive order Sunday, requiring anyone traveling into Texas from Louisiana and other states to be self-quarantined for 14 days in an effort to combat the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.

Texas state troopers will stop motorists traveling from Louisiana into Texas, requiring them to provide a designated quarantine location within the state. If travelers exhibit any symptoms of coronavirus, state troopers will escort them to their designated quarantine location.

"DPS Special Agents will conduct unannounced visits to designated quarantine locations to verify compliance by confirming the physical presence of covered persons," the executive order reads.

However, commercial activity, emergency response, and critical infrastructure responsibilities between states are exempt and will function as normal.

Armed vigilantes chop down tree, block driveway of 'out of state' neighbor in quarantine
[New York Post] A group of armed vigilantes cut down a tree and dragged it across a man’s driveway in Maine to force him to quarantine in his home amid fears he could be infected with the coronavirus, officials said.

A man residing on Cripple Creek Road in Vinalhaven, an island off the coast of Maine, called authorities around 3:35 p.m. Friday to report a group of people with guns had cut down a large tree and dragged it in front of his driveway, blocking access to the main road.

The man said he left his house to check his property when he noticed the cable went out. The unidentified man said he retreated to his home and hailed the Coast Guard for help using a VHF radio after a neighbor began yelling at him to get indoors and remain quarantined.

The armed group had dispersed before authorities arrived. Deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Maine Marine Patrol and a Coast Guard boarding party, responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

"Deputies have learned that there is a general belief by some island residents that the Cripple Creek Residents are supposed to be quarantined because they came here from another state and could have COVID-19," the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in Maine said in a Facebook post.

"Whether someone is a Maine resident or not, they have the right to free movement and anyone who infringes upon that free movement is potentially violating the law," the post said.

The man and his two roommates have been living in Vinalhaven for about 30 days since coming from out-of-state, authorities said. Several towns in Maine have asked seasonal residents and outside visitors to self-quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Portland Press Herald reported.

"If you are concerned about someone potentially being infected or not following the emergency rules or recommendations, please contact us," the sheriff’s office continued in its post. "We want everyone to be informed about COVID-19 and the rules around it. We also want everyone to be safe and not overreact in this time of uncertainty as it could end poorly."

Coronaplague roundup: 4 in 10 people worldwide confined due to pandemic
Donald Trump Extends Coronavirus Guidelines to April 30
[BREITBART] President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
on Sunday said that guidelines for Americans fighting the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
will be extended to April 30.

"Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won, that would be the greatest loss of all," Trump said, acknowledging that his hopeful Easter deadline for loosening restrictions was shattered.

The president said he thought about differentiating restrictions between different areas in the country, depending on the threat posed by the virus, but was strongly advised against it by the experts.

Trump urged Americans to continue following the "Slow the Spread" guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and the federal government.

"The better you do the faster this whole nightmare will end, therefore we will extend our guidelines to April 30 to slow the spread," he said.

Trump said that on Tuesday his task force will share additional updates and data to demonstrate why the sustained guidelines were necessary.

He reminded Americans that they were still making a difference, but warned them that deaths and infections would continue rising for two weeks.

"The peak will likely hit in two weeks," Trump said.

Trump predicted that by June 1, the United States would successfully be getting back to normal.

Italy’s virus cases showing signs of narrowing
[IsraelTimes] The number of coronavirus cases in Italy shows signs of narrowing again, with officials expressing cautious optimism that the most severe shutdown in the industrialized west is showing results. Italy’s civil protection agency says 5,217 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours — the lowest number in four days and an increase of just 5.6% — bringing the total number to 97,689. In that period, another 756 people with the virus died, bringing Italy’s total deaths in the crisis to 10,779.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Expands Quarantine to Louisiana Travelers
[BREITBART] Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is requiring travelers from Louisiana to self-isolate for 14 days and said the Florida Highway Patrol will install checkpoints on major roads to screen travelers from that area, he announced on Friday.

DeSantis is imposing restrictions on travelers fleeing to Florida from Louisiana ‐ particularly New Orleans, which is emerging as one of the hotspots of the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

outbreak.

"New Orleans is having a lot of problems ‐ they may not be quite as widespread as New York City. There was a concern from the Panhandle that this could impact them," DeSantis said during a presser on Friday.

"They are working hard to keep their rates low and we don’t want to add any problems to them," he added.

The Florida Highway Patrol will install checkpoints on the major roads along the Alabama-Florida state line and screen drivers from Louisiana, with the exception of those driving commercial vehicles.

"There’ll probably be a diversion for folks with certain license plates," DeSantis said.

Others will be required to tell authorities where they are staying in Florida and told to self-isolate for 14 days. A violation of that order could result in criminal penalties.

"All we’re trying to do is keep our residents here safe," DeSantis said. "If they’re telling you to shelter in place, then do that. But don’t come here, because we’re trying to protect our folks."

topped 2,000 on Saturday ‐ just days after reaching the 1,000 mark.

The rising number signaled the rapid spread of the virus, also known as COVID-19, despite extraordinary public health measures in place across the nation that have closed businesses ‐ grinding the economy to a near-halt -- and confined millions to their homes.

Confirmed infections also climbed by nearly 17,000 on Saturday, to a total of more than 121,000 nationwide.

New York state nears 1,000 coronavirus deaths
[IsraelTimes] New York state’s coronavirus death toll is nearing 1,000.

The state accounts for more than 40 percent of coronavirus deaths in the US.

The number of disease-related deaths in the state jumped Sunday to 965 from 728 the day before, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says. The vast majority have been in New York City. Figures released Sunday morning show 678 coronavirus deaths in the city, which continues to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the US.

Meanwhile, new data is showing which parts of the city are being hit the hardest by disease and that nearly a quarter of the people who have died of coronavirus in the state were nursing home residents.

At least 8 strains of the coronavirus are spreading across the globe

as the bug wreaks havoc spreading across the globe.

More than 2,000 genetic sequences of the virus have been submitted from labs to the open database NextStain, which shows it mutating on maps in realtime, according to the site.

Researchers said the data, which includes samples every continent except Antarctica, revealed the virus is mutating on average every 15 days, National Geographic reported.

But Nextstrain cofounder Trevor Bedford said the mutations are so small that there is no strain of the virus that is more harmful.

"These mutations are completely benign and useful as a puzzle piece to uncover how the virus is spreading," Bedford told the outlet.

He said the various strains allow researchers to see whether community transmission is widespread throughout a region, which can inform whether lockdown measures have been effective.

"We’ll be able to tell how much less transmission we’re seeing and answer the question, ’Can we take our foot off the gas?’" Bedford said.

"This is our last chance, stay home, stay home, stay home," said Mexico’s Undersecretary of Health Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez during a streamed news conference where they provided updated information on the pandemic’s effects in Mexico. Lopez Gatell asked the public to stay indoors for at least a month to slow the spread of the virus.

Sudan confirms sixth case of infection with coronavirus
[Sudan Tribune] Sudan has confirmed a sixth case of infection by the new coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

from the UAE, the Sudanese health minister said on Sunday.

Akram Eltom (SUNA photo)"The sixth case is of a patient in the sixties who arrived in the country from the United Arab Emirates," said Akram Eltom.

All the patients have been infected with respiratory disease outside the country. Four of the six have been in the UAE.

Sudan, which declared a health emergency last week, had recorded one death from the virus.

The government, according to its front man Faisal Mohammed Saleh, has decided that the curfew will begin at 06.00 pm instead of 08.00 pm.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country the government imposed a curfew as of 24 March from 08.00 pm to 06.00 am.

Also, it decided to close international and domestic airports until 23 April, except for the humanitarian and cargo shipments.

Political and social events or gathering have been banned and schools, universities, and higher institutes have been closed for one month, starting from 14 March.

A random mutation should not lead to improvement in pathogenicity. To get this you need work in a lab.
If anything, cycles of variation/selection should lead to a less violent pathogen (according to DWEMs)

#6  I think Bedford meant that none of the strains was significantly worse than the others. This, even though some countries have much higher fatalities as a percent of cases (which can have many other causes than the strength of the virus)

what he didn't say was whether the therapies currently in use (the quinine based compounds, the Gilead drug, the various other anti virals) work about the same on each of the strains; I think this is probably so but the data is very messy and will take a long time to determine.

Xi Jinping: China to Expand Pharmaceutical Monopoly, Keep ‘Unfettered Flow of Trade’
Who would buy pharmaceuticals from China now, when it’s been demonstrated they consider it a weapon at the throat of the purchaser?
[BREITBART] Chinese dictator Xi Jinping told fellow G20 leaders in a teleconferenced speech on Thursday that China intends to increase its manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to “keep global financial markets stable.”

Xi demanded that the rest of the world help keep the world’s markets — currently monopolized by the Chinese Communist Party — “stable” amid growing demands that countries reconsider having nearly all their necessary goods sourced from the communist regime. Extensive reporting out of Wuhan, the origin city of the current pandemic, has conclusively determined that communist censorship and repression of individuals seeking to share basic health tips to prevent spreading a contagious disease significantly amplified the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.

"While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority," the company said in a statement.

The company, which announced the closure of both parks on March 12, said it has been paying its cast members ever since then. In light of the extension of the closures, Disney said it will extend paying hourly parks and resort cast members through April 18.

...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
, an official said.

Thomas Schaefer, who was the finance minister of Germany’s Hesse region, was found dead by suicide Saturday on railway tracks at Hochheim, which is near Frankfurt.
"I have clear evidence of crimes committed by Hillary Clinton..."
State governor Volker Bouffier said Sunday that the 54-year-old had become consumed with how to handle the coronavirus crisis sending the global markets into freefall.

He said Schaefer was particularly concerned about "whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help."

"I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him," Bouffier said. "He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us."

Authorities investigating Schaefer’s death said questioning witnesses led them to conclude that he died by suicide.

Schaefer was a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
’s Christian Democratic Union and had held his position for a decade.

Why black Americans are moving to Africa
[NYPOST] Monique John wasn’t sure what to expect when she stepped off the plane in her new home: the West African nation of Liberia.

"It was very rundown looking," the Brooklyn-born 28-year-old recalled of her first glimpse of the capital, Monrovia, nearly three years ago. "But my feeling as I was walking along the city’s main streets was a sense of excitement . . . it felt almost like an out-of-body experience to finally be in Africa."

John is one of a number of African-Americans moving to the Motherland, some inspired by the recent "Year of Return" movement initiated by Ghana, 400 years after the first Africans were brought in chains to Jamestown, Va. Last year, Ghana gave citizenship to 126 people of African descent, many of them Americans.

Born in Brooklyn, Monique John moved to Liberia three years ago to work as a journalist.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella went down under the weight of the custard...
rapper Ludacris obtained Gabonese citizenship, as did actor Samuel L. Jackson after tracing his heritage back to that nation’s Bantu Tribe. (Neither has moved there full time.)

New Jersey couple Chrystol and Jason Warde hope to make their move this year.

"We wanted to be in a place where we can bring our experiences to people who are going to appreciate it to help develop [businesses]," said Chrystol, 33, the owner of two women’s clothing stores. Her 34-year-old husband, who emigrated from Guyana at 19, is a CPA.

The couple, who have one child, plan to visit Tanzania and Kenya in April, travel restrictions permitting, to decide which country suits them best.

Germany will issue coronavirus antibody certificates to allow quarantined to re-enter society
h/t Instapundit
[The Telegraph] - German researchers plan to introduce coronavirus ’immunity certificates’ to facilitate a proper transition into post-lockdown life, as Chancellor Angela Merkel’s handling of the crisis has led to a boost in the polls.

The antibodies will indicate that the test participants have had the virus, have healed and are thereby ready to re-enter society and the workforce. The researchers plan to test 100,000 members of the public at a time, issuing documentation to those who have overcome the virus.

The researchers will use the information to determine how to properly end the county’s lockdown, including re-opening schools and allowing mass gatherings.

Uranus has Started Leaking Gas
[HappyMag] Highly detailed and scientific NASA research can confirm that something massive is coming out of Uranus.

Buried data reveals that when the spacecraft flew past the gas giant in 1986, it passed through something called a plasmoid that escaped and stole a big old cloud of the planet’s atmosphere along with it.
I couldn't resist the headline.
NASA have learnt from Voyager 2’s gassy expedition that the plasmoid itself was about 127,000 miles long and twice as wide. The data, first published in August in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, will be able to give NASA a much more detailed understanding of Uranus’ atmospheric composition, however won’t be able to tell them everything.

Iranian prisoners riot, smash cameras as country's coronavirus death toll rises
Some of the 50,000 prisoners still incarcerated in Iran amid the coronavirus outbreak started a riot Monday, breaking cameras and causing other damage in two buildings that house violent criminals, state media reported.

The chaos at the Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz is the latest in a series of violent prison disturbances across the country, which is battling the most severe coronavirus outbreak in the Middle East.

Iran has temporarily released around 100,000 prisoners as part of measures taken to contain the pandemic, leaving behind bars violent offenders and so-called "security cases" ‐ often dual nationals and others with Western ties.

FDA issues emergency authorization of 2 anti-malaria drugs for coronavirus treatment
(CNN) ‐ The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an emergency use authorization for chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
Governor Half-Witmer of MI? STFU
The drugs ‐ which are used to treat malaria and other conditions ‐ have been called game changers by President Donald Trump.

But thus far, there is little scientific evidence that chloroquine, or its closely-related analogue hydroxychloroquine, are effective in treating Covid-19.

What happened? The authorization came in a letter dated Saturday, but the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) acknowledged the FDA's action in a Sunday news release. The FDA limited the scope of its authorization to drugs supplied from the Strategic National Stockpile. The HHS announced that two pharmaceutical companies ‐ Bayer and a division of Novartis ‐ had donated the drugs to the stockpile.
Do the drugs work? In its statement, HHS said:

"Anecdotal reports suggest that these drugs may offer some benefit in the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
"The safety profile of these drugs has only been studied for FDA approved indications, not COVID-19."

While there's limited evidence on the efficacy of chloroquine, or hydroxychloroquine, the FDA said the drugs' benefits outweighed their risk. In its letter, the FDA encouraged randomized clinical trials that could assess the effectiveness of the drugs. It also noted that the known and potential benefits outweigh the risks.

Who can the drugs be used to treat? The authorization is limited to patients who are currently hospitalized and weigh at least 50kg, or about 110 pounds. Under the emergency use authorization, health care providers must contact their local or state health department to access the drugs.
Posted by: Iblis || 03/30/2020 11:26 || Comments || Link || [5 views] Top|| File under:

#1  I thought these drugs were already being used in various places? There ought to be some clinical data at this point to give some indication of their efficacy. There ought to be other data that could give some indication of their positive effects. For example, in approved prescribed uses of the drugs for lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's disease and malaria, how many of these people get COVID-19? If the figure is very low, or nil, then one might be able to assume the drugs are preventive or curative for CV-19 without controlled clinical trials.
Posted by: JohnQC || 03/30/2020 15:22 Comments || Top||

#2  It was being used off label (potential liability issues) and under compassionate use exception, which means you had to wait until the patient was at death's door. Now doctors can prescribe it with a positive test for COVID-19 when it's most effective.

French have concluded 2 studies, both showing high safety and efficacy. But studies take time, and it's never enough. People will argue n, p values, need for follow up, etc for years. That's fine, but maybe not the ideal way to respond to a crisis.

Rhode Island National Guard Searches House-to-House for New Yorkers Fleeing the Wuhan Virus, Can Hunting Them for Sport Be Far Behind?
[Red State] - A little earlier this year, there was a huge kerfuffle over a Hollywood picture called "The Hunt" in which rich, effete liberals tried to acquire a patina of heroic virtue by hunting down human quarry who were thinly disguised Trump supporters. Now this scenario is beginning to play out for real.

This is from Bloomberg, so it may or may not be true, but because it is coverage of a Democrat politician in a Democrat stronghold, I’m assuming the story on-the -ground is worse than this:

Rhode Island police began stopping cars with New York plates Friday. On Saturday, the National Guard will help them conduct house-to-house searches to find people who traveled from New York and demand 14 days of self-quarantine.

    ...

Many New Yorkers have summer houses in Rhode Island, especially in tony Newport, and the governor said the authorities would be checking there.

"Yesterday I announced and today I reiterated: Anyone coming to Rhode Island in any way from New York must be quarantined," the governor said. "By order. Will be enforced. Enforceable by law."
