Suspect in Thai superstore bombing arrested
[Bangkok Post] A key suspect was arrested in connection with the car bombing of a Big C superstore in Pattani's Muang district on Tuesday, and a massive manhunt is underway for eight others. Suhaimee Sama-ae was apprehended in Pattani's Nong Chik district on Thursday night. He had allegedly confessed he was involved the attack and implicated eight others in the plot.

Pol Maj Gen Piyawat alleged Suhaimee was part of a group that held up and murdered pickup truck owner Nuson Khachornkham and stole his vehicle. The truck was then packed with explosives and used in the car-bomb attack that left 61 people injured at Big C Supercenter on Tuesday afternoon.

The eight others implicated by Suhaimee have outstanding warrants for their arrest in connection with previous violence in Pattani and Yala provinces. They were identified as Anuwa Kaso, Ruslan Baimat, Maolana Samoh, Isma-ae Mosu, Bukkolee Lamsoh, Abdulasi Japakeeya, Manase Saidee and Muhammad Kaso.

Two of seven other people earlier detained for questioning over the attack are a religious leader and a local tambon leader, who gave "useful information" to investigators.

Merchant brutally killed for truck used as car bomb
[Bangkok Post] A canvas vendor was battered, bruised, tied up and cruelly executed before his truck was stolen to be used as the bomb delivery system in an attack on a department store in Pattani on Tuesday.

The body of Nuson Khachornkham was brought to the hospital where doctors said that apart from a gunshot wound in the neck, Nuson was struck with a hard object in the face. His nose was broken and the skin around his eyes and cheeks was gashed open. There were marks on his neck, wrists and ankles where he was tied up. The body was found with its wrists tied behind its back.

Detectives said that a "customer" phoned Nuson on Tuesday morning and asked him to install a canvas awning at a mosque in Nong Chik district. His truck was later parked at the Big C Supercenter in Muang district, Pattani, and exploded at about 2pm Tuesday, injuring 61 people.

Nuson's body was found in a paddy field in tambon Ko Po of Nong Chik district on Thursday. His widow said at his funeral on Friday that her family with two young children had lost its breadwinner and she was worried about how they would survive. She also said she was too afraid to stay in Yala.
