[SUNSTAR.PH] TWO more members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) voluntarily surrendered to the government troops in Basilan province, the military reported on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Bacala, Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion commander, identified them as Sarid Nisal, 25, and Mohammad Nisal 23. Bacala said the two bandits surrendered on Monday, June 12.
They are followers of Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf leader Nurhasan Jamiri. He said they yielded an M-16 Armalite rifle with attached M-203 granade launcher and a Garand Rifle with ammunition.
The bandits surrendered four days after three of their companions surrendered to the troops in Basilan. Bacala identified the three as Adulla Kalitut, 35, Natim Alamin, 25, and Adzmil Alamin, 20. They surrendered on Thursday, June 8. The surrender of the Nisals on Monday have brought to 73 the total number of Abu Sayyaf bandits who surrendered in Basilan province.

Syaikhah Izzah Zahrah Al Ansari, who worked at a community nursery, was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
"Izzah was intent on joining ISIS and was actively planning to make her way to Syria, with her young child," the ministry said in a statement, using another name for the Islamic State group.
"She supported ISIS' use of violence to establish and defend its self-declared 'caliphate', and aspired to live in it."
Izzah became radicalized from 18 after watching propaganda videos from the turban group, and had formed an extensive network of foreign contacts, including IS Death Eaters and supporters, the MHA said, some of whom had been killed in Syria or placed in durance vile Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! for terror-related activities.
The daughter of Koranic teachers, she believed that having a husband who died in battle would give her "elevated status" and she could easily remarry in Syria, the MHA added. Her family tried to talk her out of it but to no avail.
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore said the incident demonstrated the threat of self-radicalization is "very real".
"An individual may fall prey to false narratives and teachings on the internet and social media, such that even a real life support structure may not be able to counter them," the council said in a statement.
Singapore considers itself a prime target for bandidosbully boyz because of the anti-terror role it plays and the interior ministry has warned that the terrorism threat was at its highest in recent years.
Since 2015, 14 Singaporeans have been detained under the ISA for radicalization, which allows for detention without trial for up to two years.
The region has been on high alert in recent weeks following a takeover of Marawi in the southern Philippines by Islamist Death Eaters flying the black flags of IS.

[DAWN] Embattled Philippine troops struggling to force out Islamist gunnies from a southern city raised the national flag for Independence Day on Monday, in a tearful ceremony dedicated to the scores killed during the conflict.

As gunfire rang out and planes flew bombing raids to pummel districts of the largely-abandoned city, a crowd of soldiers and officials gathered outside a nearby government building to raise the Philippine flag.
"This is dedicated to soldiers who offered their lives to implement our mission in Marawi city," said Colonel Jose Maria Cuerpo, commander of a Philippine Army brigade fighting in Marawi.
The annual ceremony marks the anniversary of an armed revolt against Spanish colonial rule.
Fighting in the city has left 58 soldiers and police and more than 20 civilians dead, the military said, estimating that almost 200 gunnies have been killed in the festivities.
Tens of thousands have fled Marawi, which is the Catholic country's most important Moslem city, since troops unexpectedly interrupted plans by the fighters to take over Marawi in a spectacular event to show that IS had arrived in the Philippines.
President Rodrigo Duterte has said the hard boy attack was part of a wider plot by IS to establish a base in the southern region of Mindanao, and declared martial law there to quell the threat.
But the military has struggled to defeat the heavily-armed gunnies, who have used hostages and pre-existing bomb-proof tunnels to entrench their positions.
