ISIS claims responsibility for the attack on religious scholars in Kabul
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria Khurasan terrorist group has grabbed credit for the attack on religious scholars in Kabul.

The group issued a statement online after the attack left several people dead or maimed at the end of the religious scholars gathering in Kabul.

The group called the religious scholars as ’tyrant holy mans’ and said the attack was carried out as they had gathered in a meeting in Kabul.

This comes as the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group had earlier rejected their involvement in the attack.

The Kabul Police officials are saying that the attack took place at around 11:30 local time on Monday as the religious holy mans were leaving the Loya Jirga camp where the gathering had taken place.

Kabul Police front man Hashmat Stanikzai said at least seven people were killed and at least nine others were maimed in the attack.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
other sources are saying that the attack left at least 14 dead while nearly 20 others have sustained injuries.

At least 60 dead after Tunisian migrant ship sinks
[NATION.PK] The corpse count from a ship packed with migrants colonists that sank off Tunisia on Sunday has risen to at least 60, the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
migration agency said.

The overloaded boat went down near the southern island of Kerkenna. At least 100 people were killed or are missing, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said.

"Among the 60 victims transferred to the forensic department at Habib Bourguiba hospital in Sfax, 48 are Tunisians ... 12 are non-Tunisian, the identifications are in progress," Lorena Lando, chief of mission of the IOM in Tunisia said in a statement late on Monday.

Human traffickers increasingly use Tunisia as a launch pad for migrants colonists heading to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
as Libya’s coastguard, aided by gangs, has tightened controls.

Tunisian authorities, which on Sunday said they had recovered 48 bodies, provided no new figures, but said the coasties was still searching for dozens of missing migrants colonists.

The IOM said 68 had been rescued - 60 Tunisians, two Moroccans, one Libyan, one Malian, one Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
ian national and three Ivorians.

The IOM said 1,910 Tunisian migrants colonists reached Italia between Jan. 1 and April 30, including 39 women and 307 minors, 293 of whom were unaccompanied.

Security officials said the boat was packed with about 180 migrants colonists, including 80 from other countries in Africa.

Survivors said the captain had abandoned the boat after it started sinking to escape arrest by the coastguard.

Unemployed Tunisians and other Africans have often tried to cross in makeshift boats from Tunisia to Sicily in southern Italia. The North African country’s economy is in crisis since the toppling of autocrat Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 threw Tunisia into turmoil with unemployment and inflation soaring.

On Monday, Italia’s new Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Italia will no longer be "Europe’s refugee camp", as he promised tough action to reduce migrant arrivals and send back those who had arrived.

3 suicide bombers kill at least 6 in Niger mosque attack
[DAWN] An attack by three jacket wallahs outside a mosque in Niger's southeast killed at least six people and maimed dozens of others, the government said on Tuesday.

The attack, carried out by two women and a man, occurred just before midnight on Monday in a southern neighborhood of Diffa, said a statement by the ministry of state. Earlier, a local official had said all three attackers were women.

The suicide bombers tried to enter the mosque during Ramazan prayers, said Elhadji Koura Boukar, a local councilor. The attackers were suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
holy warriors who had crossed into the country from Nigeria.

Residents in the area about 7 kilometres (4 miles) from the border alerted police. The attackers then detonated their explosives outside the mosque, Boukar said.

The corpse count could rise given the serious injuries caused by the blast, he said.

The ministry of state said at least 37 people were maimed, including eight at death's door.

The Nigeria-based Boko Haram has launched a number of attacks over the years in Diffa.

Saudi Arabia Says New Yemen Missile Intercepted
[AnNahar] Saudi air defences on Tuesday intercepted a ballistic missile that targeted the western city of Yanbu after being fired from rebel-held territory in neighbouring Yemen, a Saudi-led military coalition said.

The missile fired at the coastal city did not cause any casualties, coalition front man Turki al-Maliki said in a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Iran-backed Houthis have in recent months ramped up missile attacks against neighbouring Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. , which leads a military coalition that has fought the holy warriors since 2015.

The latest strike comes as coalition-backed Yemeni forces advance on the rebel-held Red Sea port of Hodeida, the main conduit for humanitarian supplies into a country teetering on the brink of famine.

United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
envoy Martin Griffiths was in the rebel-held capital Sanaa on Monday for talks with Houthis about de-escalating the fighting around Hodeida.

In late May, air defences intercepted Huthi missiles over the southern cities of Najran

and Jizan, according to Maliki, who said there were no casualties.

Saudi Arabia earlier this month tested a new siren system for the capital Riyadh and the oil-rich Eastern Province, in a sign of the increasing threat posed by the rebels' arms.

Riyadh accuses its regional rival Tehran of supplying the Huthis with ballistic missiles, a charge Iran denies.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other allies intervened in Yemen

in 2015 to push back the rebels and restore the internationally-recognised government to power after the Huthis ousted it from swathes of the country including the capital Sanaa.

Nearly 10,000 people have been killed since the alliance launched its intervention in Yemen in March 2015, contributing to what the UN has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Turkish cartoonist jailed for insulting Erdogan: Report
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish police have jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
one of the country's most prominent cartoonists to serve out a 14 month sentence first handed down last year on charges of insulting President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
, Ottoman Turkish media reported on Tuesday.

Nuri Kurtcebe, 69, was detained and sent to prison Monday after a police check found him on a bus travelling in the northwestern Ottoman Turkish city of Yalova, the private Dogan news agency reported.

His lawyer Erdem Akyuz told the media that the authorities were enforcing the sentence after an appeal was turned down by an upper court.

Kurtcebe was sentenced to a one year, two months and 15 days jail term for several caricatures he drew in 2015.

As is customary in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, he had been allowed to remain free while the appeal was pending. But once the appeal was rejected, an arrest warrant was issued.

"What's recognised in all over the world is that artists express their work freely and that politicians, compared to others, are more tolerant to criticism," Akyuz was quoted as saying by Dogan.

Akyuz also said that it was not clear in the court's ruling which cartoons or expressions were the source of the charges.

Kurtcebe, whose daily cartoons were published in the Aydinlik newspaper, also drew for a number of publications including Hurriyet and opposition Cumhuriyet newspapers as well as satirical magazine Girgir.

Musa Kart, a Cumhuriyet cartoonist who was sentenced to three years and nine months jail in April on charges of aiding outlawed "terrorist organizations" along with several other staff, lashed out at the court's verdict.

"It seems that the ruling party has not yet given up on its idea of neutralising cartoonists with prison sentences," he said, quoted by Cumhuriyet.

"I hope and wish that this political climate deprived of a sense of humour will change on June 25," he said.

Turkey is heading for parliamentary and presidential elections on June 24 when Erdogan is seeking a new mandate under the expanded powers of a full executive presidency.

Thousands of Turks, from a top model to high school students, have been prosecuted on charges of insulting Erdogan since he became president in 2014.

Journalist Gul Bukhari home after hours long ‘abduction' in Lahore
[DAWN] According to a journalist at Waqt TV, Bukhari was on her way to the network's studio to appear in a show when unknown persons stopped her vehicle and asked her to come out.
I've noticed that after these abductions there's never a followup story on who dunnit, or what was done to them.
A vocal critic of the military, Bukhari is a journalist and activist who has worked in broadcast and print for several media groups in Pakistain. Bukhari is presently a contributing Op-Ed writer at The Nation and was set to appear as an analyst on Waqt TV show '2vs2'.
I'll check The Nation in a day or two. Betcha there's nothing there about it.
Concerns about freedom of expression and press censorship grow in the country in the run-up to election. In recent months, the Jang Group’s Geo TV was pushed off the airwaves across most of the country.

Days before Pakistain's caretaker government took over, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that his government did not believe in resorting to censorship but urged the media to adopt a mechanism for self-regulation.

In April, a Reporters Without Borders report said the Pak media was regarded as among the most vibrant in Asia but due to pressure being exerted by holy warrior groups and intelligence agencies it was increasingly resorting to self-censorship, according to a report by the global watchdog.

As news of Bukhari's disappearance made the rounds, journalists took to Twitter to express concerns about her safety.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Firefighters battle a wave of incendiary kite blazes in Gaza border area
Yesterday was Naksa Day, the annual Palestinian commemoration of the Six Day War. The usual large protests were anticipated, but this is all they did.
[IsraelTimes] Fresh fires reported near Be'eri, Kissufim, Nirim, Ein Hashlosha and Re'im, as Israeli official warns that those launching the flaming kites and balloons could be shot

Firefighters were battling a wave of blazes near the Gazoo border area Tuesday after several flaming kites were sent soaring over the border, causing at least nine fires in Israeli territory.

Two large fires broke out near Kibbutz Nir Am, northeast of the Gazoo Strip, while a third was reported in the area of Moshav Netiv Ha’asara, to the north.

At least six fires were started in the Eshkol region of southern Israel, apparently as a result of so-called fire kites from the Gazoo Strip, according to the local regional council. The six fires were located near the communities of Kissufim, Nirim, Ein Hashlosha and Reim.

A brush fire also broke out in a field outside Kibbutz Be’eri, east of the central Gazoo Strip. The blaze was also apparently sparked by an incendiary kite from the coastal enclave.

Area firefighters and security personnel worked to put out the blazes as smoke filled the surrounding communities.

Since the "March of Return" protests began along the Gazoo border at the end of March, hundreds of kites and helium balloons have been flown into Israel outfitted with Molotov cocktails and containers of burning fuel, setting fire to large swaths of land.

The blaze in Nir Am briefly threatened the Sapir College in the neighboring town of Sderot. Footage from the scene, filmed by a student, showed the fire spreading rapidly as firetrucks were heard rushing to the scene.

The fire forced authorities to temporarily close down the Route 232 highway in southern Israel until the flames could be brought under control, according to a spokesperson for the local Sha’ar Hanegev regional council. The road later reopened.

The second fire outside Nir Am broke out in nearby grazing lands, according to the Sha’ar Hanegev spokesperson.

The fires came as the JNF, which owns much of the land, said it would sue Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, for the damage in international courts, calling it "environment terrorism."

Unarmed Gazan arrested after crossing into Israel

Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
Two other Paleostinians who were trying to cross the border with him fled back inside the Strip when Israeli soldiers approached the area, the army says.

The Gazook man is transferred to Israeli security forces for questioning.

Shin Bet says it thwarted plot to assassinate prime minister, Jerusalem mayor
[IsraelTimes] East Jerusalem man, 2 accomplices placed in durance vile for allegedly planning 'significant terror attacks' on behalf of Syria-based group. US Consulate, Canadian security officials also among targets.

Israeli forces placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
an East Jerusalem man suspected of planning to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat earlier this year, on orders from a Syria-based terrorist group, the Shin Bet security service revealed on Tuesday.

The main suspect, 30-year-old Arab Israeli Muhammad Jamal Rashdeh, was arrested on April 24. Two more suspects were arrested in the following weeks, the Shin Bet said. The security service refused to identify the two suspected accomplices.

Indictments were filed against the three on May 27, but the case was kept under a court-issued gag order until Tuesday.

Later on Tuesday, the Israel Police released footage (above) of Rashdeh’s arrest from the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem where he lived.

"Working on orders from terrorist operatives abroad, Muhammad planned to carry out a number of significant terror attacks against a variety of targets," the security service said.

The targets included Netanyahu and Barkat, as well as buildings belonging to the US consulate in Jerusalem (which has since been converted into an embassy) and a delegation of Canadian security officials who were in Jerusalem to train Paleostinian Authority security forces in the West Bank, the Shin Bet said.

In a video statement, Barkat said that he’d been updated by the security service about the threats on his life when the information came out. He also said he didn’t change his routine despite the threat to his life.

A Shin Bet spokesperson said Rashdeh received his orders from members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine ‐ General Command (PFLP-GC), a Syria-based terrorist group that fights alongside Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad.

In order to carry out the attacks, Rashdeh and his accomplices planned to bring in an additional terrorist operative from Jordan, the Shin Bet said.

According to the security service, Rashdeh had already begun collecting intelligence about his targets.

"The arrest of the suspects thwarted significant terror attacks, which the cell had been requested to advance," the Shin Bet said in a statement.

According to the Shin Bet, Rashdeh had previously been incarcerated for "terrorist activities."

In his statement, Jerusalem Mayor Barkat praised the Shin Bet for foiling the liquidation attempt on his life.

"Our internal security agency is one of the best in the world. Throughout their handling of this threat, I was updated and knew that the Shin Bet was in the picture and that the police were in the field. I could trust in them and sleep soundly and securely," Barkat said in a statement on Tuesday.

The PFLP-GC ‐ not to be confused with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, which it split off from in 1968 ‐ was responsible for a number of vicious terror attacks in Israel in the 1970s and 1980s, including one against a school bus in northern Israel, which killed nine children and three adults.

The PFLP-GC largely went underground in the late 1980s, working behind the scenes with the Leb-based Hezbollah terror group, but it reemerged in 2011 with the outbreak of the Syrian civil war.

Palestinian teen convicted of attempted murder in peace visit stabbing attack

[IsraelTimes] Imag Agbar, 19, from Nablus, convicted on two counts of trying to kill his victims and two of causing injuries when he lashed out at passersby in a Tel Aviv hotel.

According to the indictment filed in the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court, Agbar confessed to going on a stabbing spree with wire-cutters in the lobby of the Leonardo Beach hotel on April 23, 2017. Four people, including a man in his 70s and a woman in her 50s, were hospitalized with light injuries as a result of the attack.

The indictment said that Agbar told Sherlocks that he decided "to kill Jews because they are Jews, with the intent of either dying or being jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
...[in order] to turn into a martyr or hero."

Defense officials said that Agbar entered Israel from the West Bank on a one-day permit with a group known as "Natural Peace Tours," which is supposed to forge relationships between Paleostinians and Israelis.

When he arrived in Israel on April 23, he abandoned the group at the first opportunity in order to carry out the attack. After stabbing the four victims, including a shopkeeper and a hotel worker, he was apprehended by police as he ran out of the Leonardo hotel on Tel Aviv’s seafront promenade.

Hundreds of Paleostinians were later denied Israeli entry permits to attend a joint memorial service for victims of the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict because of the attack.

Air Strike in Northeast Syria Kills 11 Civilians
Human shields or jihadis not in uniform? Cynical minds would not be surprised by either.
[AnNahar] An air strike on an area in northeastern Syria still held by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has killed at least 11 civilians, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Tuesday.

The Britannia-based monitor said the strike was conducted early Monday in the south of Hasakeh province by the US-led coalition, which has been battling IS jihadists in the region since 2014.

There was no immediate confirmation by the coalition of the strike, the latest in a series to have reportedly caused civilian casualties in the area in recent weeks.

The strike "resulted in the death of 11 civilians, including five children," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP. "The bodies were only pulled out on Tuesday due to continuous bombardment."

He said the area targeted was near the village of Jizaa, one of the very last pockets still controlled by IS in eastern Syria's Euphrates Valley.

Kurdish-dominated forces backed by the US-led coalition are spearheading the ground offensive in the area.

The Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria, says it determines whose planes carried out raids according to type, location, flight patterns and munitions used.

The coalition assesses some reports of civilian deaths resulting from its air strikes, and releases updated figures on the casualties it admits to often weeks or months later.

On Friday, the coalition admitted to nine more civilian deaths over a period of a year, bringing the total since the start of its intervention in Iraq and Syria to 892.

Monitoring group Airwars says the number acknowledged by the coalition is well below the true toll of the bombing campaign, estimating that at least 6,259 civilians have bit the dust in both countries.

Russians Withdraw from Syria-Lebanon Border
[AnNahar] A Russian force that deployed on Syria's border with Leb has reportedly withdrawn and been replaced by Syrian troops.

The Leb-based al-Mayadeen TV, which has news hounds throughout Syria, says the Russian force withdrew Tuesday from the border area on the outskirts of the town of Qusair, a stronghold of the Lebanese Hibzullah group. Russia and the Iran-backed Hizbullah

's forces.

Al-Mayadeen and the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Russian troops had deployed to the area on Monday. Neither provided details as to why they left.

The rare deployment of Russian forces near the border came amid repeated Israeli warnings about Iran's growing military presence in Syria. Israel is widely believed to have been behind an Arclight airstrike on Qusair last month that killed and maimed Hizbullah fighters.

Jihadi vs. Jihadi: 22 Iraqi militants killed over links with Islamic State in Idlib
I’m afraid I am thoroughly confused about what colour the bad guys are these days.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Twenty two Iraqi murderous Moslems were killed in confrontations against members of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS) in northwest of Syria, an observatory said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, "confrontations broke out in Kafr Hund village in the countryside of Selqin city in Idlib, in the wake of accusations against an Iraqi family of joining Islamic State

also members of the same family, which left five murderous Moslems killed.

Many Islamic State members managed to flee Iraq after most of the cities were retaken from the holy warrior group. They settled in the north of Syria as well as regions near the borders with Iraq, the observatory said.

ISIS kills 45 pro-regime fighters in east Syria assault
[NATION.PK] An offensive by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (ISIS) in eastern Syria has left at least 45 pro-regime fighters dead, a monitoring group said Tuesday.

ISIS fighters launched the operation Sunday against Euphrates Valley villages seized last year by government forces and their allies, and have retaken four of them, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The villages are located on the road between the scenic provincial capital of Deir Ezzor and the city of Albu Kamal, which lies further south on the border with Iraq.

Near those villages is the small town of Hajin, the single largest populated hub still under the control of ISIS.

Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said at least 26 IS fighters were also killed since "fierce" fighting started on Sunday.

He said there had not yet been any intervention by Russian aircraft supporting pro-government forces in the area.

The Observatory said the casualties on the pro-regime side were mostly fighters from Shia Death Eaters present in the area, including groups from Iraq, Afghanistan and Leb’s Hezbollah.

The small pockets controlled by ISIS in that area are the last dregs of the sprawling self-styled caliphate the group proclaimed over large parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014.

A series of victories by Russian-backed regime troops and US-backed Kurdish forces have shattered the caliphate, but thousands of surviving are holding out in remote parts of the Euphrates Valley.
