Heather Mac Donald Talks About Her Essential Book: The War on Cops
[Rush] The war on cops has now come to Dallas, Texas. The war on police has come to Dallas, Texas. Now, after the program yesterday I interviewed Heather Mac Donald for the next issue of the Limbaugh Letter. She has a book out. She's a scholar, Manhattan Institute, and a prolific writer. And her most recent book is: The War on Cops: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe. Not just the cops, but particularly the cops.

Africa Horn
Israel to help Kenya build Border wall to keep out Shaboobs
Israel will lend its counter-terrorism expertise to Kenya by helping the African country build a security wall along its border with Somalia, the UK’s The Times reported on Thursday.

Nairobi is seeking assistance from the Jewish state to construct a 440-mile barricade to prevent Somali terrorists from infiltrating the country. Israel itself is in the process of building a security fence along its southern border with Jordan — expanding the fence located alongside the Sinai peninsula — and has plans to build a massive concrete wall that extends underground, to prevent terrorists from the Gaza Strip from infiltrating the country through tunnels.

The news comes amid Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s diplomatic flurry in Africa this week, which included a stop in Kenya on Tuesday.

Following a meeting with Netanyahu, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta stated, “Kenya and Israel, just like other nations in the world, are facing the challenges of terrorism and today was a great opportunity to discuss ways of dealing with the issues.”

Both leaders agreed to strengthen their intelligence cooperation, with Israel offering to share tactics it has developed to detect terror attacks in the early stages of their planning.

“If you know in advance that an attack is going to happen and can preempt it, it saves lives,” Netanyahu said. “Israel is doing this and we will share intelligence with Kenya and Africa.”

The Israeli prime minister warned that terror groups across Africa — such as ISIS and its Nigerian affiliate, Boko Haram — are gaining strength and pose a major threat not only to Africa, but to the entire world. “There is a raging crisis of terrorism,” he said. “Where Israel can help, we will.”

Over the past several years, Kenya has been victim to a spate of attacks by Somali terrorists, particularly jihadists from the Islamist Al-Shabaab group.

Kenyan officials are not the only world leaders looking to the Jewish state as an example. In February, when presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump declared that he would build a wall along the US-Mexico border, he told reporters, “You could ask Israel about walls that work.”

Burqa ban in Switzerland comes into force; Muslims face fines up to $10,000
[DAWN] As a Swiss law banning burqas came into effect in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
's Ticino region on Friday, enforcing a fine of over $11,000 for those who violate the law, a Moslem convert and a businessman protesting the ban were fined, The Independent reported.

The controversial law, which was voted in by a referendum, outlaws face-covering headgear.

Nora Illi and Rachid Nekkaz, prominent Moslem-rights campaigners, walked in the streets of Locarno in burqas after the rule was introduced.

Police stopped Nekkaz, a French-Algerian national, and Illi, a convert from Zurich, and fined them over $230 and $9,900 respectively.

Local government officials, while Nekkaz and Illi protested, collected signatures calling for a nationwide ban on the burqa.

The law, which originated as a people's initiative, received 65 per cent of the vote in Ticino in 2013, where the majority of the population are Roman Catholic. The law was approved by the local government in November after a parliament ruling stated that it did not contradict Swiss federal law.

Georgio Ghiringhelli, who proposed the law, said the ruling would send a message to "Islamic fundamentalists" in the country.

Turkey detains over 1,400 people on Syrian border
Turkish authorities detained 1,410 people trying to enter Turkey from Syria on July 7, the Turkish military said July 8.

In a statement posted on its official website, the Turkish General Staff said six other people, who were trying to cross to Syria from Turkey, were also detained. A vehicle, 11 mobile phones, two battery chargers, 10 identity cards, 3,050 dollars and 95,500 Syrian liras were seized, the statement also said.

Meanwhile, three people trying to illegally enter Turkey from Greece were also detained, according to the army.

Also on July 7, Turkey began legal proceedings against 164 people who did not fulfill legal requirements to enter the country, the statement added.

Anatomy of the terror threat: Files show hundreds of US plots, refugee connection
[FoxNews] Newly obtained congressional data shows hundreds of terror plots have been stopped in the U.S. since 9/11 – mostly involving foreign-born suspects, including dozens of refugees.

The files are sure to inflame the debate over the Obama administration’s push to admit thousands more refugees from Syria and elsewhere, a proposal Donald Trump has vehemently opposed on the 2016 campaign trail.

“[T]hese data make clear that the United States not only lacks the ability to properly screen individuals prior to their arrival, but also that our nation has an unprecedented assimilation problem,” Sens. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told President Obama in a June 14 letter, obtained by FoxNews.com.

The files also give fresh insight into the true scope of the terror threat and cover a wide range of cases, including:
  • A Seattle man plotting to attack a U.S. military facility

  • An Atlantic City man using his “Revolution Muslim” site to encourage confrontations with U.S. Jewish leaders “at their homes”

  • An Iraq refugee arrested in January, accused of traveling to Syria to “take up arms” with terror groups
While the June 12 massacre at an Orlando gay nightclub marked the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil since 2001, the data shows America has been facing a steady stream of plots. For the period September 2001 through 2014, data shows the U.S. successfully prosecuted 580 individuals for terrorism and terror-related cases. Further, since early 2014, at least 131 individuals were identified as being implicated in terror.

Across both those groups, the senators reported that at least 40 people initially admitted to the U.S. as refugees later were convicted or implicated in terror cases.

Among the 580 convicted, they said, at least 380 were foreign-born. The top countries of origin were Pakistan, Lebanon and Somalia, as well as the Palestinian territories.

Both Sessions and Cruz sit on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, which compiled the terror-case information based on data from the Justice Department, news reports and other open-source information. The files were shared with FoxNews.com.

The files include dates, states of residence, countries of origin for foreign-born suspects, and reams of other details.

Specifically, they show a sharp spike in cases in 2015, largely stemming from the arrest of suspects claiming allegiance to the Islamic State. They also show a heavy concentration of cases involving suspects from California, Texas, New York and Minnesota, among other states.

The senators say the terror-case repository still is missing critical details on suspects’ immigration history, which they say the Department of Homeland Security has “failed to provide.” Immigration data the senators compiled came from other sources.

Sessions and Cruz asked the president in their letter to order the departments of Justice, Homeland Security and State to "update" and provide more detailed information. The senators have sent several letters to those departments since last year requesting immigration histories of those tied to terror.

“The administration refuses to give out the information necessary to establish a sound policy that protects Americans from terrorists,” Sessions said in a statement to Fox News.

Asked about the complaints, DHS spokeswoman Gillian M. Christensen told FoxNews.com the department “will respond to the senators’ request directly and not through the press.”

“More than 100 Congressional committees, subcommittees, caucuses, commissions and groups exercise oversight and ensure accountability of DHS and we work closely with them on a daily basis. We’ve received unprecedented requests from a number of senators and representatives for physical paper files for more than 700 aliens,” she said, adding that officials have to review each page manually for privacy and other issues.

Cruz ran unsuccessfully this year for the Republican presidential nomination. Sessions, an ardent critic of the administration’s immigration policies, is supporting presumptive GOP nominee Trump.

The allegations detailed in the subcommittee’s research pertain to a range of cases, involving suspects caught traveling or trying to travel overseas to fight, as well as suspects ensnared in controversial sting operations which civil-liberties groups including the ACLU have criticized.

In a 2014 report, Human Rights Watch said nearly half of the federal counterterror convictions at the time came from “informant-based cases,” many of them sting operations where the informants played a role in the plot.

The report said: “In some cases the Federal Bureau of Investigation may have created terrorists out of law-abiding individuals by conducting sting operations that facilitated or invented the target’s willingness to act.”

But even in some of those cases, federal agents got involved after learning of a serious suspected plot. In the case of the Seattle suspect, Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, authorities said he approached someone in 2011 about attacking a military installation. That citizen alerted law enforcement and worked with them to capture Latif and an accomplice.

Iraq
Mosul Mortifications and Mutinies
Dateline July 6:
Unidentified men raise Iraqi flag in central Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A security source in Nineveh Province announced on Wednesday that ISIS has mobilized its members after unidentified men raised the Iraqi flag in the main market of the province in central Mosul.

According to information shared by the source, it was mentioned, “ISIS has mobilized its members this evening after unidentified men raised the Iraqi flag in the main market of the province in central Mosul,” further adding, “ISIS members arrested a number of street vendors on the back of the incident. The incident is considered to be the first of its kind since ISIS took control of the city.”
Dateline July 5:
Citizens of Mosul express fury through Arabic graffiti as ISIS bans recharge cards

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Denizens of Mosul in Nineveh Province drew a graffiti in Arabic on public buildings across the city, expressing their rejection towards ISIS, after the latter prevented the sell of mobile phone recharge cards in the city.

MP Abdel Rahman al-Louisi, in a statement, said, “Mosul denizens drew some Arabic graffiti on public buildings across the city, expressing theirs rejection of ISIS.”

“ISIS prevented the sale of mobile phone recharge cards in the city of a Mosul due to some residents collaborating with the central government’s security forces and international coalition,” he added.

ISIS bans Eid prayers in Mosul mosques

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A local source in Nineveh Province informed on Tuesday that ISIS has banned the citizens of Mosul from praying during Eid al-Fitr. The source further informed that even the markets of the city are devoid of any glitz and glamour of Eid.

Informing in details about the ban imposed by the ISIS, the source said, “Even though tomorrow is the first day of Eid, the ISIS however has imposed a ban on Eid al-Fitr prayers on Wednesday and informed all imams and preachers of the city about this cancellation order.”

“The residents were informed about this cancellation through Diwan al-Hisba,” the source added.

This is not for the first time that ISIS has imposed this ban on Eid al-Fitr prayers in Mosul as in 2015 as well the organization issued a ban against offering prayers on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, claiming it was not part of the religion they practiced.

Moreover, in 2015, the ultra-radical group had banned the performing of Taraweeh prayers and it said that there was nothing religious about the prayers and that it were just a ‘fad’ invented by the Saudi clerics.

It may be mentioned here that since the ISIS takeover of Mosul in 2014, the organization has been imposing new rules and regulations, backed by strict punishments that include threat of death for the offenders.

Iraq PM Sacks Baghdad Security Chiefs After Sunday's Deadly Blast
[AnNahar] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi sacked the head of the Baghdad security command and other brass hats after a bombing in the capital killed 292 people, his office said on Friday.

Abadi issued "an order to relieve the Baghdad Operations commander of his position," as well as removing officials responsible for intelligence and security in the capital, a statement said.

The head of the Baghdad Operations Command was Lieutenant General Abdulamir al-Shimmari.

An official in Abadi's office said the others removed were the head of interior ministry intelligence for Baghdad and the official responsible for the capital in the national security adviser's office.

Iraq's interior minister tendered his resignation after the bombing, one of the deadliest to ever hit Iraq, but the Friday statement was the first announcing that officials were fired following the attack.

A jacket wallah detonated an explosives-laden minibus in a Baghdad shopping district early on Sunday as it teemed with people ahead of the holiday marking the end of the holy Moslem fasting month of Ramadan.

The blast, which was claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group, killed 292 people.

Authorities are still working to identify those killed in the attack, but Health Minister Adila Hamoud said on Thursday that the identities of 177 bodies had yet to be determined.

The initial blast killed a limited number of people, but raging flames spread and trapped people inside shopping centers at the site that lacked emergency exits, police Major General Talib Khalil Rahi said.

Interior Minister Mohammed Ghabban submitted his resignation following the bombing, and authorities also announced new security measures, the execution of five convicts and the arrest of 40 jihadists in an apparent bid to limit the fallout from the attack.

Ghabban criticized the security system as fundamentally flawed, saying he could no longer accept responsibility for the consequences and calling for a series of changes that would ultimately increase the ministry's power.

An official in Abadi's office told AFP on Wednesday that the premier had accepted the minister's resignation, though there has been no official statement from him on the matter.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Some Democrats join Republicans in effort to block Iran deal with Boeing
[Jerusalem Post] Legislation that would serve to block a sale of Boeing aircraft to Iran worth $25 billion passed the House of Representatives in a voice vote on Thursday night.

Republican members added two amendments to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act that would prohibit US financial institutions from issuing the requisite licenses for the sale, or from offering loans to Iran for the purchases.

While this bill is unlikely to become law, the author of these two amendments, Congressman Peter Roskam (R-Illinois), said he plans to attach them to every bill he can that moves through Congress.

Significantly, Democratic members did not push back against the addition of the amendments, and some were encouraging of the effort on Thursday.

Among them is Congressman Brad Sherman (D-California), who in a June letter to the Obama administration wrote that the deal should not proceed because of inextricable ties between Iran's state-run aviation industry and its Revolutionary Guards.

Iran contends that blocking the Boeing sale would violate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action‐ the nuclear deal clinched last year‐ and points to a provision of the JCPOA which commits the US to "allow for the sale of commercial passenger aircraft and related parts and services" for "exclusively civil aviation end-use."

But it is that last part‐ "exclusively civil aviation end-use"‐ that has some members of Congress convinced the Boeing deal can legally be halted, in compliance with the JCPOA. That's because the US Treasury Department, State Department, and intelligence agencies all assess that Iran Air and its subsidiary, Mahan Air, are complicit in illicit arms transfers to Lebanon-based terrorist organization Hezbollah or in the assistance of Syria's embattled president, Bashar Assad.

Terror Networks
Pentagon: ISIL Using Drones with IED, Spy Cameras
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] The Pentagon said that ISIS Takfiir group is posing a growing threat to the United States by deploying small commercial drones armed with improvised explosives devices or spy cameras that can evade detection.

The threat led the Defense Department office charged with monitoring and countering improvised bombs to ask that Congress approve shifting $20 million to provide seed money for a counter-drone effort.

The funds would bankroll moves to "identify, acquire, integrate and conduct testing" of technologies that would "counter the effects of unmanned aerial systems and the threats they pose to US forces," according to a budget document sent to Congress last week.

It was part of a request for approval to shift $2.5 billion in defense funds approved for this year from other purposes to reflect changing needs.

In the fight against ISIS, "small and tactical unmanned aerial systems" equipped with improvised bombs, or IEDs, "pose a direct threat to US and coalition forces," according to the budget document.

"Just days after the Iraqi forces began occupying Makhmour in Ninevah Province, a video surfaced" on an ISIS web site "showing forces on the ground there, demonstrating they were using the footage in both reconnaissance and propaganda roles," Army Colonel Chris Garver, the Defense Department’s top front man in Iraq, said in an e-mail.

The Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency, the Pentagon office that has worked to combat improvised bombs since the 2003 Iraq war, has seen ISIS fly "quadcopters and fixed-wing type drones you can buy commercially" as "both an IED delivery system and for reconnaissance," its front man, David Small, said in an e-mail.

The commercial drones used by ISIS have weighed about 50 pounds or less, he said. He didn’t provide details on the number of attacks or resulting casualties.

In addition to using drones with full-motion video to look for attack opportunities and to monitor Iraqi Security Forces, Small said the pilotless aircraft are being used to provide target information for vehicles carrying suicide bombs.

Small said "there is a wide array of technology angles we are looking into" to defeat the drones that would be deployed within two years, if not sooner.

Daesh tightens grip on captives held as sex slaves
The advertisement on the Telegram app is as chilling as it is incongruous: A girl for sale is "Virgin. Beautiful. 12 years old.... Her price has reached $12,500 and she will be sold soon."

The posting in Arabic appeared on an encrypted conversation along with ads for kittens, weapons and tactical gear. It was shared with The Associated Press by an activist with the minority Yazidi community, whose women and children are being held as sex slaves by the extremists.

While Daesh is losing territory in its self-styled caliphate, it is tightening its grip on the estimated 3,000 women and girls held as sex slaves. In a fusion of ancient barbaric practices and modern technology, Daesh sells the women like chattel on smart phone apps and shares databases that contain their photographs and the names of their "owners" to prevent their escape through Daesh checkpoints. The fighters are assassinating smugglers who rescue the captives, just as funds to buy the women out of slavery are drying up.

The thousands of Yazidi women and children were taken prisoner in August 2014, when Daesh fighters overran their villages in northern Iraq with the aim to eliminate the Kurdish-speaking minority because of its ancient faith. Since then, Arab and Kurdish smugglers managed to free an average of 134 people a month. But by May, a Daesh crackdown reduced those numbers to just 39 in the last six weeks, according to figures provided by the Kurdistan regional government.

Mirza Danai, founder of the German-Iraqi aid organization Luftbrucke Irak, said in the last two or three months, escape has become more difficult and dangerous.

"They register every slave, every person under their owner, and therefore if she escapes, every Daesh control or checkpoint, or security force - they know that this girl ... has escaped from this owner," he said, using the Arabic acronym for the group.

US State Department spokesman John Kirby told the AP that the US continues "to be appalled by credible reports that Daesh is trafficking in human beings, and sex slavery in particular."

"This depravity not only speaks to the degree to which Daesh cheapens life and repudiates the Islamic faith, it also strengthens our resolve to defeat them," he said.

The AP has obtained a batch of 48 head shots of the captives, smuggled out of the Daesh-controlled region by an escapee, which people familiar with them say are similar to those in the extremists' slave database and the smartphone apps.

Lamiya Aji Bashar tried to flee four times before finally escaping in March, racing to government-controlled territory with Daesh fighters in pursuit. A land mine exploded, killing her companions, 8-year-old Almas and Katherine, 20. She never learned their last names.

The explosion left Lamiya blind in her right eye, her face scarred by melted skin. Saved by the man who smuggled her out, she counts herself among the lucky.

"I managed in the end, thanks to God, I managed to get away from those infidels," the 18-year-told the AP from a bed at her uncle's home in the northern Iraqi town of Baadre. "Even if I had lost both eyes, it would have been worth it, because I have survived them."
