[Al Arabiya Latest] Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki renewed on Saturday Iran's readiness for negotiations over its nuclear proposals but made no direct response to calls from the major powers for urgent talks.
"By giving this package, the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown its determination to enter into negotiation on the main topics in the package," Mottaki told reporters in Tehran.
"I think that if one takes into account separate statements made by these powers, they acknowledge that our package has major topics for holding constructive negotiations," he said.
"This can be the basis of negotiations... we hope that they (the six world powers) address our package seriously, deeply and analytically."
His comments came as six world powers - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States -- considered new proposals handed over by Iran on Wednesday to delay Western concerns about the real purpose of its nuclear program.
[Al Arabiya Latest] Israel said on Saturday it had lodged a complaint with the United Nations after two rockets fired from southern Lebanon struck the north of the country without causing any casualties as Russia voiced "particular concern" about actions that could raise tensions in the Middle East. "The sovereign government of Lebanon fails to meet its commitments under U.N. Resolution 1701 because it does not prevent the firing of rockets against our territory," Israel's deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon told public radio.

[Iran Press TV Latest] Leader of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, has called for a national unity government to stand against "inevitable Israeli threats." That's because governments of national unity work so well.
In an interview with Press TV, Jumblatt said the only way to resist the external threats, including the Israeli policy against Lebanon, is the formation of a nation unity government. "We will be facing huge problems; at stake is the unity of Lebanon and how to defend Lebanon against possible and inevitable Israeli aggression", Jumblatt told Press TV on Saturday. I dunno if anybody else has noticed this, but it seems like Israel only "aggresses" when people in Leb opens fire or kidnaps people or something like that.
Well sure. It's the job of the kufr, especially the juices, to bow their heads to be harvested like wheat at the behest of any Muslim. So any and all acts of self-defense are by definition aggression.
He also noted the significance of the interaction among Middle East countries, saying unity between Arabs and Iranians is crucial in preventing a possible Israeli aggression against either side.

[Iran Press TV Latest] A judiciary panel dismisses allegations made by leading opposition figure and former presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi that post-vote detainees had been sexually assaulted in Iranian jails.
"The three-member judiciary panel studied Karroubi's claims and found them completely false and politically-motivated. The panel has also called for fair and firm action against him," Fars News Agency quoted a the panel's report presented to Judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani.
"The panel concludes that there is no proof that people who Karroubi claimed of being raped, have been raped," the report said.
"These allegations and documents have been fabricated to distract public opinion," it added.
Asked about evidence on sexual assault on some detainees of post-vote unrest, Karroubi said members of Etemad-e-Melli (National Trust) Party have quoted an individual as saying that he has been arrested in a street in Tehran, beaten up and consequently raped.
"I called the person and heard his remarks. One of the Etemad-e-Melli members recorded his words on a CD, which I present to you," the cleric added.
"He said he was alone in the street when three men confronted him and took him away in their car," he said.
Karroubi cited another case saying, "This girl, whose father and some other family members have been martyred, was a supporter of presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi."
"She and her mother were shouting Allah-u Akbar (God is Great) from rooftops when she was arrested in her home. She was beaten up and secretly buried after parts of her corpse were burned by acid."
"I have heard that Mir-Hossein Mousavi took part in her funeral ceremony. I was supposed to go to her home, but had no time. My son went there for me."
The cleric said he was not absolutely sure the individuals were arrested and raped after the presidential election in June, according to the report.
"These remarks are just what I have heard. As I opposed the election result, I invited or talked to everybody who made claims," Karroubi said.
Studies by the judiciary panel revealed that father of the female that Karroubi claimed had been sexually assaulted had not been martyred, but died some years ago.
The panel proposed that outcomes of the report should be announced to the nation through mass media.
It also said the results should be sent to appropriate judicial officials to take firm action against people who acted against national interests after the presidential election and damaged the credibility of the Islamic establishment.
The three-member panel has been set up upon an order by Ayatollah Larijani, the country's chief judge, to thoroughly investigate all post-vote cases included in Karroubi's letter.
Iran's Prosecutor General, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, deputy Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeesi and Judiciary adviser Ali Khalafi were named on Saturday as members of the panel.
