Separate blasts kill two kids, pregnant woman in Afghanistan
[DAWN] A roadside kaboom in Afghanistan killed at least two children and maimed five other civilians in the southern Kandahar province, said Nasrat Rahimi, front man for the Interior Ministry, on Saturday.

No one immediately grabbed credit for Friday’s blast in Spin Boldak district. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
are active in the province and have claimed earlier attacks.

Elsewhere, a blast caused by children playing with unwent kaboom! ordnance has killed a pregnant woman, said officials in the northern Parwan province.

Seven children and two other women were also wounded, said Qasim Sangin, the head of a local hospital. One child remained at death's door.

An investigation found the unwent kaboom! ordnance was quite old, according to an official in the Parwan police chief’s office. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to news hounds.

Family in critical condition after home hit by UAE-backed drone strikes
[Libya Observer] A family was maimed after their home was hit by UAE-backed dronezaps of Haftar's militias on their residential area of al-Hadhba in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, the Media Centre of the Volcano of Rage Operation reported.

The media centre clarified that the family members were admitted to the intensive care unit due to their critical condition.

The Libyan Army repelled Saturday a strong offensive by Haftar's forces, who attempted to advance under an intense air cover.

Libya's Army advances on strategic frontlines in southern Tripoli, pushing away Haftar's forces
[Libya Observer] The Libyan Army forces have thwarted an attack by Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's forces on Sabea frontline, said the media office of Volcano of Rage Operation of the Presidential Council's government.

The media office added that the Libyan Army forces also foiled Sunday an attack by Haftar's forces on al-Sawani frontline and captured two fighters, while they secured the Yarmouk Camp and Sawarikh Camp after a surprise attack by Haftar's forces at dawn.

Backed by five warplanes, Haftar's forces carried out Sunday dawn an attack on Baer Alaq area near Sabea district - 40 km from Tripoli

- using the heavy festivities keeping Libyan Army forces busy on Khalit al-Furjan and Yarmouk Camp frontlines.

After reinforcement arrived, Libyan Army forces regained the area near Sabea district from Haftar's forces and then kept following the rest of Haftar's forces to inside the district of Sabea.

Volcano of Rage operations room sources said the Air Force carried out five Arclight airstrike

Meanwhile,

social media activists circulated photos showing Russian mercenarries from Wagner Group and said they were fighting for Haftar's forces in Saturday and Sunday festivities.

#5  I understand they didn't have the anti-air missile systems powered up? If that is true, this is as much their fault for lying naked in the middle of the road. Mad mullahs gonna mad mullah.

Suggest they add a slew of CWIS as well, but only if someone is, like, awake and watching. I guess the land based system is called LPWS.

Come to think of it, why aren't the Navy's Standard Missile (pick a number) set up for land defense? AMRAAM's in rotary magazines like on the B-1's? Jeez.

If the Saudi's can't keep anyone native focused, hire really good mercs.

#8  #5 The USN's RAM or the Israeli David's Sling are both off the shelf solutions for attacks like this. The Saudis would'd still have to turn them on though.

And the Saudis would want to buy the joo-cootie free Patriot Pac-4 version of David's Sling. IIUC, it's the same radar/missile combination.

Several Syrian soldiers reportedly killed in Deir Ezzor amid new turmoil in Euphrates region
[ALMASDARNEWS] Several Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers and National Defense Forces’ (NDF) personnel were killed on Sunday after unknown assailants attacked their positions in southeastern Deir Ezzor.

According to a military source in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the unknown assailants attacked the Syrian Armed Forces inside the town of Sabikhan.

The source said the Syrian Army is currently investigating the attack; however, they believe it was either carried out by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
or residents of Deir Ezzor that oppose the military’s presence in the governorate.

In response to the attack, the Syrian Arab Army has sent reinforcements to the southeastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor to search for the assailants.

Recently, tensions have been running high in the governorate after a series of protests against the Syrian Army in the outskirts of Deir Ezzor city.

The residents reportedly called for the Syrian Army and their allies to leave the area in favor of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Iran shows off long-range missile system with new warhead
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian military displayed its Khorramshahr long-range ballistic missile with a new warhead at a parade dedicated to the anniversary of the beginning of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, Fars news agency reported on Sunday.
"Death to Saddam! Death to America! Death to the Jooos! Death to 600,000 of our soldiers!"
The Iranian military also showcased domestic air defence system Bavar-373 and missile defense system Khordad-15 as well as 18 other ballistic missiles, the Fars news agency reported.

Iran’s missile program has been receiving considerable international attention for many years.

The United States and a range of its allies view it as a violation of UN Security Council’s 2231 resolution that recommends Tehran refrain from creating long-range ballistic missiles, as their development heavily relies on the nuclear weapons program banned under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Syrian Army destroys jihadist tunnels and bases along Turkish border
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stepped up their attacks in the Latakia Governorate this past weekend, targeting several areas under the control of the jihadist rebels.

Led by the 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army unleashed a heavy barrage of missiles and artillery shells towards the jihadist tunnels and bases near the key town of Kabani in northeastern Latakia.

According to a military source in the Latakia Governorate, the Syrian Army relied on their military intelligence and that of their Russian allies to get the coordinates of these jihadist sites.

At the same time, units from the Syrian Army’s 4th Armored Division heavily targeted the bully boy positions in the Jabal Turkmen region, which is located along the Ottoman Turkish-Latakia border.

The Syrian Army reportedly targeted the jihadist movements in the Jabal Turkmen region after holy warriors aligned with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
and the Turkestan Islamic Party were seen expanding their presence in the area.

#1  "Kabani" is Kbanah, Latakia province in Syria if you are having trouble (as I did to find the place when your Google-Fu keeps trying to point to Kobane instead). A youtube video (Syrian War Report -August 12, 2019) points where it is (yes, yes, the *cough* dubious Southfront and Sputnik, but it has a handy map). Th place seems to be one of the few roads that you would need to cross the hilly terrain (logistics!) and try to pinch off another salient (only road and so forth).

New footage of alleged booby-trapped Israeli drone shot down by Syrian Army
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reportedly shot down an Israeli drone Saturday that was spotted entering their territory from the occupied Golan Heights region.

According to the Syrian Army’s statement, the Israeli drone was booby-trapped with cluster munitions, which later found out after shooting the unmanned aerial vehicle down over the Al-Quneitra Governorate.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) later released footage of the downed drone after it was recovered by the Syrian Army near the demilitarized zone in the Al-Quneitra Governorate.

The Syrian military downed two drones over the weekend, with the first UAV being shot down over the southeastern suburbs of Damascus.

The drone shot down over Damascus was destroyed by the Syrian air defenses after it was spotted over the Aqraba area near the Jaramana District.
