Malaysia nabs 16 ISIS suspects in six-state swoop
[STRAITSTIMES] A total of 16 suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) Death Eaters aged between 20 and 38 years old have been detained in a six-state swoop, said Malaysia's Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

He added that 16 were detained in Selangor, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Penang and Sabah between Sept 21 and Oct 6, and said 14 of the 16 were part of the "Gagak Hitam" cell led by krazed killer Mohamad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi.

"They had sworn an oath of allegiance to Mohamad Wanndy online. We also believe they have channelled funds to the krazed killer leader," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 9).

Tan Sri Khalid added that that one of the suspects detained was a 20-year-old university student who was detained at the KL International Airport on Sept 22 upon his return to Malaysia.

"He went to Istanbul on Sept 7 but was detained by Turkish authorities via information from our Counter Terrorism Division. He planned to secure safe passage to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
," he said.

He added that police personnel had also detained a North African man, saying that the man is a member of Jahbat Al-Nusra.

"We believe he had sneaked into Malaysia in May. He is involved in falsifying travel documents for the terror group," said Mr Khalid.

Abu Sayyaf leader with $100,000 bounty arrested
[Gulf Today] An Abu Sayyaf leader with a $100,000 bounty on his head was arrested for his alleged involvement in the plan to launch terrorist attacks to disrupt an ongoing religious festival in Zamboanga City. Regional police chief Billy Beltran identified the suspect as Abdul-latip Suwaling Talanghari, also known as "Tatang," a title of respect meaning "father" among Filipinos.

Beltran said security forces arrested Talanghari along with another suspect, Albasitrie Talanghari, during a raid on their safehouse in a village in Zamboanga City late on Friday night. Confiscated from the suspects were several firearms and improvised bombs which authorities believe were to be used to sow terror during the month-long celebration in October of a Catholic religious festival in the city, according to Beltran.

The attacks were to be co-ordinated with three other Abu Sayyaf militants earlier arrested by the police in the city five days ago, according to Beltran. He disclosed that Talanghari has long been wanted for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of 19 foreigners and two Filipinos from a resort in the Malaysian state of Sabah in 2000 and then brought them to Sulu.

On Friday, three members of another notorious cell known as the Maute Group, who were linked to the September 2 bombing of a popular night market in Davao City, hometown of President Duterte, were arrested. Police said the Maute Group launched the attack to divert attention on the government’s intensified search and destroy operation against the Abu Sayyaf.
