Judicial Watch Sues DOJ for Records of Investigations into the Awan Brothers, Congressional Democrat IT Scandal
[Judicial Watch] (Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Justice Department for all records of communications relating to the investigation into former Democratic information technology (IT) staffers Abid Awan, Imran Awan, Jamal Awan and Hina R. Alvi (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-02563)).

Imran Awan and his family were banned from the House computer network in February 2017 after the House’s top law enforcement officer wrote that Imran is "an ongoing and serious risk to the House of Representatives, possibly threatening the integrity of our information systems," and that a server containing evidence had gone "missing." The inspector general said server logs showed "unauthorized access" and procurement records were falsified.

Imran Awan was Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s top information technology aide. Most lawmakers fired Awan in February, but Wasserman Schultz kept him on until he was arrested in July, trying to board a flight for Pakistan.

Imran Awan was allowed a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud but prosecutors found no evidence that Awan "violated federal law with respect to the House computer systems."

The Judicial Watch lawsuit was filed after the FBI failed to respond adequately to two FOIA requests.

The FBI claimed it could neither confirm nor deny records related to the first request, filed on May 26, 2017, seeking:

Why Competition in the Politics Industry is Failing America (pdf)
At a time of high dissatisfaction and distrust with the U.S. political system, Michael E. Porter and co-author Katherine M. Gehl use the lens of industry competition to determine why politics in America fails to deliver results for the average American. Applying the Five Forces framework to the politics industry, the authors analyze the classic duopoly with two dominant competitors. The research seeks to inspire action that shifts the nature of competition through powerful and achievable reforms‐and reinvigorates the U.S. democracy. much more at link

Unsisterly White Women Keep Voting for the GOP and Against Their Own Interests?
[Vogue Magazine] It’s become something of a bleak election night ritual: assessing the exit polls and seeing that white women voters overwhelmingly threw their support behind conservative Republican male candidates. Again. They did it for President Trump, who won an estimated 53 percent of the white female vote in 2016. And they did it with Roy Moore, accused of sexually predatory behavior, in Alabama’s special Senate election last year. And while there were many thrilling, historic wins for progressive women and women of color in particular in the 2018 midterms, as well as data showing that some white women are peeling away from Trump, white women overall rendered more disappointment.

The latest gut punches, courtesy of CNN polling: In the Georgia governor’s race, an estimated 75 percent of white women‐more even than white men!‐voted for Republican Brian Kemp, who is passionately pro-life, over Stacey Abrams, a staunch protector of women’s reproductive rights, while 97 percent of black women supported her. In Texas, 60 percent of white women cast their ballots for Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, a supporter of alleged assaulters President Trump and Brett Kavanaugh, over Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who is dedicated to improving women’s health care. (Ninety-four percent of black women backed O’Rourke.) The numbers were similar in the Florida governor’s race, where 51 percent of white women voted for Republican Ron DeSantis, who has voted against equal pay and the Violence Against Women Act, instead of Democrat Andrew Gillum, who wanted to protect no-cost birth control in the state. Just in case the pattern was unclear: Way more black women‐82 percent‐chose Gillum.

As sure as black women have proven themselves to be the often-underappreciated backbone of the Democratic party, white women voters are establishing themselves as maddeningly, confusingly . . . unsisterly.

Kiss of Death - California Style: Democrats Gain Veto-Proof Majority in California Legislature
[AP] SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Democrats have won two Republican-held California state Senate seats in the Central Valley, giving the party veto-proof supermajorities in both chambers of the Legislature.

Vote totals updated since Election Day made winners Monday of Melissa Hurtado and Assemblywoman Anna Caballero.

Hurtado won the open 12th District seat while Caballero defeated Republican Sen. Andy Vidak in the neighboring 14th District. Both are in the Fresno area. Vidak, of Hanford, has held the seat since a special election in 2013.

The victories give Democrats a two-thirds advantage in the 40-member Senate. The party also has that advantage in the 80-seat Assembly. The party also holds every statewide office, led by Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom.

Two-thirds majorities allow Democrats to raise taxes, suspend legislative rules and override vetoes without Republican votes.

All the state Assembly seats and half the Senate seats were up for grabs in the election. Democrats tried to capitalize on California voters' strong opposition to Republican President Donald Trump and opposed GOP-led efforts to repeal last year's gas and vehicle tax hikes that annually raise $5 billion to support transportation improvements. The ballot measure failed last week.

#1  California has been on life support for some time. It started slipping into a "failed state" when the Progs began their take-over. Unfortunately, it's failure does not occur in isolation; its failure is subsidized by all U.S. taxpayers. Moreover, there is "liberal flight," from California tainting other states.

#4  The problem is that when Cali collapses, they'll all flee eastward and turn the rest of the West into the same kind of shithole.

As we've seen with elections, this is already happening.

Californians (with a small proportion of exceptions) are America's very own internal rapefugees.

#5  California recently changed to a primary system where the two highest vote-getters go on to the finals, rather than the more customary winner from each party. This tends to make elections a contest between two Democrats.

#6  This tends to make elections a contest between two Democrats.

As I recall, during the "Cold War" the USSR had a one-party system. That didn't work out so well--it never does. The thing that scares me more than a two-party system is a one-party system. The RINOs joined with the Dems made for a Uni-Party--scary. That didn't work out so well for the people either--$20+ trillion debts.

#8  Check the names of the two winning candidates in this article. Hispanic, huh? Now, I'm not a racist but all this Democrat super majority business is a direct result of politicians like Bill Clinton throwing the door open for a massive influx of illegal aliens from Mexico. These are not just illegal aliens, they are the poorest of the poor illiterate peasants from a poor country.

The people who are fleeing California are middle class, probably mostly conservative, who are fed up with high taxes. I know a couple of guys who are thinking seriously of leaving and I assure you they would be right at home here at Rantburg. You could do worse than to get some of these people. The scary part is for people like me who truly love this state in spite of the criminals who run it. Where am I gonna go?

#9  This is why I didn't really want John Cox the Republican to win. The place falls apart now the Democrats own it, if it fell apart with a Republican in command trying desperately to fix things despite the legislature and the Republicans would be blamed.

#10  I've felt for some time that California has to choose to Frack the coastal oil deposits or screw the Government Pensions to get out of the current mess. A Democrat Governor won't do either... but may have no choice at some point.

#15  There is already to much flight from CA to other western states. Sadly, too many of them are liberals who want to migrate to states with lower costs of living. Sinema's Senate win cheered by LGBTQ groups
[The Hill] LGBTQ groups are cheering the Monday night victory by Arizona Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D), who is set to become the country's first openly bisexual senator.

Sinema's win was officially declared on Monday after six days of ballot-counting in a tight senatorial race against GOP Rep. Martha McSally (Ariz.). Sinema will be the state's first female senator and the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Arizona since 1988.

Sinema is also the second openly LGBTQ person to be elected to the upper chamber, joining Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), who is lesbian.

"An LGBTQ woman winning a U.S. Senate seat in a state that voted for Trump is a game-changer, both for the LGBTQ community and the Democratic party," CEO and President of LGBTQ Victory Fund said in a statement on Monday. "Kyrsten’s victory makes clear that an LGBTQ candidate who listens to voters and prioritizes their issues can win elected office anywhere ‐ blue state or red state."

Victory Fund, a political action committee that works to elect LGBTQ candidates to office, dubbed Sinema one of their "game changer" candidates this election cycle, directly contributing $10,000 to her campaign and raising more than $97,000 for her.

#8  ...Nobody is mentioning a problem that may well have had something to do with McSally losing: her personality.

She was by all accounts an exceptional Hog driver - but I've heard for years that she is never wrong. About anything. EVER. She was also sufficiently secure in her righteousness that she actually SUED the DOD in the late 90s over the policy that required US military women to wear a burqa off base in KSA or Kuwait. Not a smart move for someone who was up to that point climbing the ladder quite nicely.

My point here is that tempramentally at least, she was pretty close to The Late Senator. And I really think that was a turnoff to the people of Arizona.

Low Energy Jeb Bush calls for Broward County official to be removed from post
[The Hill] Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) called for the removal of Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes.

"There is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process," Bush tweeted.

"Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts."

Snipes's leadership has come under attack as Broward struggles to count the remaining votes in the 2018 midterm elections held last Tuesday.

Three statewide races in Florida, including the gubernatorial and the Senate race, are headed for recounts, sparking a legal fight over the counting process.

Snipes was appointed by Bush when he was governor after he suspended her predecessor Miriam Oliphant in November 2003 for what he called "grave neglect, mismanagement and incompetence."
Yes, you read it correctly. That would be the same Jeb Bush who hired Ms. Snipes.

MSNBC Host Incorrectly Claims Broward County Election Supervisor Is a Republican
[Free Beacon] MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Monday claimed Florida's Broward County election supervisor Brenda Snipes is a Republican, despite the fact she is a Democrat.

"We should also point out that Brenda Snipes in Broward County is a Republican appointed by former governor, then-Governor Jeb Bush," Mitchell said in a clip flagged by Mediaite. "So, she was put in by a Republican governor after the mess that we all remember from 2000. And she’s hardly a Democratic official, or someone doing the bidding of the Democratic candidates there."

Snipes self-identifies as a Democrat and has run as a Democrat for her current position.
