Ex-FBI head Comey drops challenge to House panel subpoena
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former FBI Director James Comey on Sunday withdrew a legal challenge that sought to quash a congressional subpoena compelling him to testify in secret about the bureau’s decisions on investigations ahead of the 2016 presidential election, his lawyer said.

Comey agreed to sit down for a closed-door deposition on Friday. Republicans on the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee pledged to provide Comey with a full transcript within 24 hours of his testimony, and he will be permitted to "make any or all of that transcript public," Comey’s lawyer David Kelley told Reuters in a statement.

Comey and the Republican lawmakers reached the new agreement the day before lawyers were to appear at a court hearing. A judge had been set to issue a ruling on Comey’s request to quash the subpoena and halt congressional proceedings - a request that has never previously been granted by a judge in the United States.

At the heart of the case is whether the panel should be able to force Comey to testify in secret about the FBI’s investigations into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.

The Republican-led inquiry has been lambasted by Democrats as a partisan effort to undermine Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

Moscow denies meddling and Trump denies campaign collusion, calling the Mueller investigation a political witch hunt.

"These are lawyers for the former United States FBI Director asking a federal judge to ignore all current law and create law, a special law, specifically to the benefit of their client.

Now, accepting that James Comey is asking a federal judge to ignore the law, ask yourself what James Comey was likely doing as the FBI Director."

Pres. Trump hints at the scandal about to blow
[American Thinker] There is big news ahead, and President Trump teased it yesterday from Argentina via Twitter. Politics has become a game of narratives, something well understood by both President Trump and his enemies in the media-Democrat establishment. For more than two years, the professionals of the cultural and media establishment have worked assiduously to create an objectively false narrative, with no evidence whatsoever, that Vladimir Putin actually changed the count of votes to hand Trump the presidency, making his victory illegitimate. Most Democrats actually believe this now and have in earlier polls as well.

But as I keep reminding our readers, President Trump was the most successful reality television producer in the history of the medium, and he understands a story arc well, as events that can be programmed unfold. That must be kept in mind in understanding this enigmatic tweet that came from the president half a world away, in Argentina for meetings with the leaders of the 20 biggest economies in the world.

Here is the short (barely over a minute) segment on Hannity last night to which the president referred:

John Solomon has a smile on his face as he reveals that two prosecutors working for John Huber, the Salt Lake City U.S. attorney tasked by then-A.G. Sessions with investigating corruption beyond what the Mueller team is handling, "reached out" to a whistleblower from the Clinton Foundation.

The Clinton Foundation scandal is, as President Trump would say, yuuuuge. I am told by a knowledgeable source that the official that John Solomon cites "knows where the bodies are buried."

Of course, the news that another whistleblower who came forward with information and documents on the Uranium One scandal, Dennis Nathan Cain, was raided by a team of FBI agents who spent six hours rummaging through his home raises some alarming possibilities. Gender equity is the most overlooked solution for climate change
[Fast Company] The list of solutions to climate change usually focuses on technology: solar power, electric cars, devices that suck carbon out of the atmosphere. But one impactful solution is often overlooked.

At TEDWomen, TED’s conference focused on women and girls, environmentalist Katharine Wilkinson explained why gender equity is a critical piece of addressing climate change. "Gender and climate are inextricably linked," said Wilkinson, one of the authors of Project Drawdown, a book that takes a deep dive into the most effective ways to fight global warming, and found that empowering women and girls was one of the top solutions.

Women and girls face more risks as the climate changes, from higher odds of being killed during a natural disaster to a greater risk of being forced into an early marriage or prostitution if prolonged drought or floods destroy a family’s finances. But improving gender equity can also directly impact emissions.

In lower-income countries, female farmers grow most of the food on small farms. But women don’t have the same access to resources as men who farm‐from credit to training and tools. "They farm as capably and efficiently as men, but this well-documented disparity in resources and rights means women produce less food on the same amount of land," said Wilkinson. When farms are less productive, that leads to deforestation, as farmers clear more land to grow the same amount of food. If women had the same tools as male farmers, Project Drawdown calculates that they could grow 20-30% more food on the same amount of land. That translates into 2 billion tons of emissions that could be avoided between now and 2050.

Caribbean-Latin America
How the caravan crisis boomeranged on the Latin American left
[NYPOST] Latin America’s anti-Yank forces had hoped to feast on the migration caravans’ damage to America, but it looks like Mexico is ending up paying the price. And Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who will be inaugurated as Mexico’s president Saturday, is the biggest loser of all.

There’s no doubt the vast majority of the 10,000-strong caravan participants are fleeing real "terror," of some kind, back home: Extreme poverty, crime and poor governance make life in their Central American home countries utterly unbearable.

Yet the caravans were organized by cynical forces more interested in their own agendas than alleviating migrants colonists’ pain.

Europe
Estonia fears Russia wants another piece of Ukraine
[Washington Examiner] Russia might be angling to take control of the key Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, a top Estonian defense official told the Washington Examiner, forecasting a move that would mark a serious escalation of the simmering conflict between the two neighbors.

"This is part of Ukraine that has economic problems and social problems because of the conflict anyway, and so by squeezing the access to this area of Ukraine, they are making the social or economic conditions even worse and possibly, possibly trying to create some kid of social upheaval there," Permanent Secretary Kristjan Prikk, the top civilian in the NATO member’s Ministry of Defense, told the Washington Examiner.

Prikk visited Washington just days after Russia seized three Ukrainian vessels in the Kerch Strait between the Black Sea and Azov.

He said that incident entails a "very direct escalation" of the Ukraine crisis because it marks the first open clash between Russian and Ukrainian forces since the 2014 annexation of Crimea. More than 10,000 people on all sides have been killed in the related fighting in eastern Ukraine, but Moscow portrays the conflict has an intra-Ukrainian fight between Kiev loyalists and ethnic Russian separatists while reiterating its sovereignty over Crimea.

Though Ukraine is not a member of NATO, Prikk and other officials from the Baltic region see real national security significance to the outcome of that conflict.

"In a way, I would say Ukraine is doing the fighting for us there. They are in direct contact with Russian Federation forces there," the permanent secretary told the Washington Examiner. "They are the ones that from time to time also cause losses to them. So, we shouldn't neglect this conflict."

The Kremlin isn’t neglecting it. Russian officials deployed a fourth battalion of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to Crimea on Thursday, according to a report from state-run media. One diplomat, speaking days prior to the Kerch Strait incident, warned of "an economic blockade, de facto" being imposed by Russia.

"It's part of the economic section of the hybrid warfare," Prikk said.

The rise of hipster colonialism
[Aljazeera] The proposal that foreign powers acquire land in Africa to stem migration is nothing but 'hipster' colonialism.
Listen to me! I'm telling you that shi* will simply not work here.
Last week, Germany's Africa Commissioner Gunter Nooke said that European countries should be allowed to lease land and to build and run cities in Africa as a means of stemming what he views as the unchecked expansion of migration from Africa to Europe. For Nooke, allowing the "free development" of these areas would stimulate African economies and create "growth and prosperity" and therefore, reduce the attractiveness of Europe as a destination for migration.

The proposal has elicited mixed reactions. Some have seen it as a novel economic proposition to stem a complex political challenge. Building on existing economic arrangements like Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Economic Processing Zones (EPZs), they argue that this would simply be the next stage in the evolution in the idea that economic exclaves that protect industries from the ravages of the open economy are the best way to stimulate growth. Now, instead of jeans and sneakers, we want to optimise people - or at least labour - by protecting them from the realities and ravages of their societies.

Understandably, there has also been considerable pushback. The word "colonialism" has been raised, with critics arguing that Germany, especially, with its history of violent colonialism and genocide in Namibia, Cameroon, Tanzania and Togo, has no moral authority to even table such an idea. More broadly, many African countries are still struggling to recover from the damage from European colonisation. In many African countries, land tenure is still irregular and skewed to wealthy and often white minorities, engendering generational economic exclusion.

Many African economies have failed to move beyond the extractive, labour intensive economies they inherited from their European counterparts. The violence of colonisation is still very present in Africa - should we really be talking about a new, trendy colonialism that only really hopes to address Europe's paranoia about a possible invasion by black bodies?

The easiest way to get to the heart of what's wrong with this proposal is to go back to basics - what is colonialism and why is it bad? The dictionary defines colonialism as "a policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically". Ultimately, it's about exploiting a power differential in order to reorganise one society for the economic and social benefit of another: saying that one society's economic and social imperatives are more important than the other's.

Even if you bring cornucopias of free goodies, the local government wants control. Agreements and deals won't last a month.

And the "great white fathers'" benign intentions won't last long either. NGOs are notorious--only the religious ones seem to maintain their good intentions, and not even all of them.

#5  Actually, a serious economic problem with Africa is that once a hardworking, clever, or simply ruthless African makes some serious cash, the move it offshore to a tax haven, rather than investing it back in Africa. While I can understand this from a individual human perspective (i.e. I'd do it too!), it's still very bad for Africa as whole. Figure out a way to get Africans to invest that capital back into Africa, and at least some of its problems will ease up a bit.

The Solution - Poem by Bertolt Brecht

After the uprising of the 17th June
The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

Jim Mattis warns top Democrat: Defense cuts could lead to war
[Washington Examiner] Congress should not cut defense spending next year due to the renewed rivalry with Russia and China, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Saturday during a defense policy forum.

"Doing so would be a dangerous disservice to our troops and the American people they serve and protect," Mattis said during the Reagan Defense Forum in Simi Valley, Calif. "We all know that America can afford survival."

Mattis delivered that message as a mix of compliments for "the political courage of our Congress" in providing a major defense spending increase last year, as well as warnings of the national security catastrophe if the funding sees another slash. And the message was especially pointed at the leaders of the House Armed Services Committee, which will be chaired by Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., due to the Democratic takeover in the 2018 midterm elections.

"I visit to pay my respects to two role models here today," Mattis said, referring to Smith and current Republican Chairman Mac Thornberry of Texas. "The bipartisan nature of how you work together puts into practice Sen. Vandenberg’s call for collaboration that politics stops ’at the water’s edge.’ Thank you both. I look forward to again working with you in the House Committee."

That compliment is especially pointed, however, given Smith’s comments about how he will seek to cut defense spending.

I want to call attention to an extremely important book by an Egyptian now living in Sweden, Sameh Egyptson. Holy White Lies: The Moslem Brüderbund in the West, which appears to have been published at the author’s own expense by Dar al-Maaref, is an exhaustive study of the Moslem Brüderbund organization’s designs to assert its influence over major governmental and non-governmental institutions in the West.

Its plans and strategies towards this end rely on lies, deception and doublespeak. The author uses Sweden as a case study representative of other Western countries.

The terrible fraud of 'transgender medicine' in America. As told by a pediatrician who was at the hospital where it started.
[Mass Resistance - Article and video #8] An incredible speech! A pediatrician who was at Johns Hopkins University Hospital when "transgender medicine" was developed describes the lies, bad medicine, and fraud behind that movement. Shockingly, it has now expanded into hospitals, clinics, and universities across America and is being presented as "legitimate" medical and surgical practice. Hear how social theory trumps science and leads to widespread misery. He also described how the psychological concept of "gender" was invented in the 1960s.

Quentin Van Meter, MD, FCP is a pediatric endocrinologist. He is a Fellow of the American College of Pediatricians and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

From the VG Bookshelf: The State and Revolution (Introduction)
[Victory Girls] One of the most important reasons for studying history is that virtually every stupid idea that is in vogue today has been tried before and proved disastrous before, time and again. ‐ Thomas Sowell

In a little over a month, Congress will convene for a new session. When it does, Republicans will no longer hold the House of Representatives. Unless something changes soon, Nancy "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it" Pelosi will once again become Speaker of the House. In all likelihood, we will see a return of Congressional logjams and finger-pointing. And that’s if we’re lucky. If we’re not, if the conservatives in Congress fail to hold the line, our nation very well might lose its way.

It’s no secret the Democrats have, for most of the last century, tried to steer us toward socialism. For awhile, they did so slowly, subtly. Now they don’t even try to hide their agenda. Unfortunately, too many either won’t or can’t see the writing on the wall.

That’s troubling, especially when you consider the 2016 presidential race. None of us took Barry Sanders seriously when he announced he was throwing his hat into the ring. Instead of being easily defeated as predicted, it took manipulation of the system by the Democratic National Committee to secure the nomination for Hillary Clinton. Had the DNC paid attention to what Democratic voters wanted, we very well might have another person sitting in the Oval Office today.

Even so, it is still easy to dismiss Sanders. But one thing we must admit he did and did well was connect with the younger voters. Not only did they turn out to support him in 2016, they returned to the polls this year. They also ran for office, many of them as Democratic-Socialists. This new crop of politicians aren’t hiding who or what they are‐or what their vision for the country is.

Because of that, it is more important than ever to understand not only where they stand but where their rhetoric and ideas come from.

Obviously this problem is being corrected.

#2  "Barry Sanders"? Somebody a Lions/Okie Lite fan over there?

If we’re not, if the conservatives in Congress fail to hold the line

How'd they do when the GOP actually "controlled" both houses?

Come to think of it - they still "control" both houses right now. Is the conservative agenda advancing as we speak?
