-Lurid Crime Tales-
Illegal Alien On His Police Killings: ‘I Wish I Had Killed More Of The ****kers'
[Townhall] A California judge has to clear the courtroom when a defendant refused to keep quiet during the trial proceedings. It’s been over three years since Luis Bracamontes, an illegal alien who had been arrested and deported multiple times in Arizona, went on a crime spree in Sacramento that ended with two police officers killed. Bracamontes is on trial for the murders and faces the death penalty, his wife, Janelle Monroy, could spend the rest of her life in prison.

The Sacramento Bee reported that Bracamontes showed no remorse, said he would escape and kill more people, and said one cop that he killed was a "coward." His lawyer has questioned his sanity and admitted to the jury that his client was responsible for the deaths of the two police officers, but hopes to save his life with additional evidence that could mitigate the circumstances; Bracamontes was high of methamphetamine when he committed the murders (via SacBee) [emphasis mine]:

Egypt WoT moves to the Desert Oases
[Jamestown Foundation] The spread of the Islamist insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula to the heavily populated Nile Delta and Nile Valley regions of Egypt has been facilitated by the importation of arms from Muammar Gaddafi’s looted Libyan armories. Prior to Libya’s 2011 revolution, arms and explosives were difficult to obtain. Since then, the growth of new Egyptian militant groups such as Liwaa al-Thawra (Revolution Brigade) and Harikat Souad Masr (Hasm – Arms of Egypt Movement)
...the NeverSisi militant arms of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. They sprang into existence, fully formed, in October 2016, probably inheriting personnel from previous MB armed factions, and apparently organized by Mohammed Kamel, who was responsible for MB special cells until he was killed by security forces in a hail of gunfire about the time the two groups appeared...
have been enabled by the availability of arms smuggled over 370 miles through the vast wastes of Egypt’s Western Desert, the 263,000 square miles of which account for two-thirds of Egypt’s land mass. With the Libyan-Egyptian border stretching for more than 650 miles, uncontrolled entry points to Egypt are plentiful, allowing militants and smugglers to move back and forth.

The Oases
The only centers of population in the Western Desert are the ancient oases of Siwa, Dakhla, Farafra, Bahariya and Kharga. Over time, the oases have been occupied by Ancient Egyptians, Romans, Mamluks and Ottomans. Modern influences only began to enter the oases with the construction of a road connecting them to the Nile valley in the 1970s. The mostly Muslim peoples of the oases are a mix of their original ancient inhabitants, Berbers, Arab Bedouin from Libya and migrants from the Nile Valley.

Egypt's Al-Azhar to hold international conference 'in support of Jerusalem' on Wednesday
Do they suppose President Trump won’t notice?
[AlAhram] Egypt's al-Azhar ‐ the world's foremost institution of Sunni Islamic learning ‐ is holding an international conference on Wednesday that will be attended by officials from 86 countries to discuss the issue of Jerusalem.

The conference, which will be held on 17 and 18 January at al-Azhar Conference Centre in Cairo, will highlight a number of issues including "raising awareness about the issue of Jerusalem and emphasising its Arab and Islamic identity," according to a statement by al-Azhar.

The event, which comes under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi,
Oh? A very bold decision, especially following his previous bold decision on this particular subject. Still, I suppose what matters is the Conclusions & Recommendations section of the proceedings...
will be held nearly one month after a decision by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The conference will be attended by the head of Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II, Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, as well as the heads of Arab Islamic and Christian organizations.

The conference will tackle three main themes; affirming Jerusalem’s Arab status, raising awareness about the Jerusalem issue, and highlighting the international community's responsibility regarding the holy city.

The event, which will be led by Grand Imam of al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb, is expected to conclude with several recommendations that support the Paleostinian cause and stress the rights of Paleostinians to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

"The conference will also discuss preserving Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in addition to a number of measures and decisions that will educate young people about the issue of Jerusalem, its history and its holy sites," the statement added.

Following Trump's decision on Jerusalem, which sparked protests in several Arab countries, Egypt presented a draft resolution to the Security Council on behalf of Arab countries that would have required the US to reverse its decision.

The resolution was vetoed by the US, though it gained support from all 14 other members of the Security Council, including key US allies Britannia, La Belle France, Italia, Japan and Ukraine.

A total of 128 countries later voted in the UN General Assembly in favour of a resolution condemning Trump's decision and calling on the US to reverse the move.

Egypt has consistently maintained its full support for a two-state solution along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of the Paleostinian state.

The number of Salafists living in Berlin rises to 950
[SPIEGEL ONLINE] [Google Translate]
According to the protection of the constitution, there are currently 950 Salafists living in Berlin - around twice as many as in 2011. Among them, according to the information, there are only a few refugees.

The Islamist-Salafist scene in Berlin according to findings of the protection of the Constitution currently 950 people, more than twice as many as in 2011. The proportion of violence-oriented among them grew even stronger, reported the "Tagesspiegel" , citing a situation analysis of Berlin Constitutional protection. Six years ago, it had been about a hundred people; To date, the number has more than quadrupled.

For the booklet entitled "Background to the members of the Salafist spectrum", the data for 748 Salafists were evaluated according to the report. In the overall picture, the impression arises that "the members of the Salafist spectrum in Berlin are above average".

Accordingly, men dominate with almost 90 percent. On average, they are 33.9 years old, one year older than women. Half of the scene members are Germans, of whom just under a third have a dual nationality. According to the report, the passports of Arab countries and Turkey dominate. "Conspicuous" according to the constitution protection, that among the purely foreign Salafists Russian nationals formed the largest group. Most of them are people from the North Caucasus - Chechens, Ingush, Dagestan and Ossetians.

The number of refugees in the Berlin Salafistenszene is low. The protection of the Constitution speaks of currently 27 people who arrived in Germany from 2014 and arrived in Berlin. They came mainly from Syria , Iraq , Afghanistan and Russia .

The Salafists are an Islamist movement that is strictly based on the early days of Islam . They demonize the customs of unbelievers and impious Muslims. Very different groups today call themselves Salafist.

India-Pakistan
10 years on, TTP claims Benazir murder responsibility in new book
[GEO.TV] The Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain has grabbed credit for the killing of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...
, according to a newly-released book by the proscribed terror group.

The book, titled 'Inqilab Mehsood South Wazoo ‐ From British Raj to American Imperialism’, is 689 pages long and has been penned by TTP leader Abu Mansoor Asim Mufti Noor Wali.

Former prime minister Benazir was murdered in a gun-and-suicide-kaboom at Liqauat Bagh in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007 during former military ruler Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
’s tenure.

The book stated that the banned terror group had sent two suicide kaboomers named Bilal and Ikramullah for the attack.

Bilal shot up Benazir first and then detonated the boom jacket. Following the incident, Ikramullah fled from the site and to this date roams free.

The book refers to the time Benazir returned to Pakistain to lead her party in 2008 elections, stating that the attack on her procession at Karsaz on October 18, 2007 was carried out upon the then group’s chief Baitullah Mehsud's orders.

The recently released book said that, despite the attack on Benazir in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, the government did not take adequate measures for the security of the Pakistain People’s Party leader, which made her an easy target.

Baitullah Mehsud had denied any part in the attack on Benazir, calling it against the Pashtun customs. The officials, especially the Federal Investigation Agency, always maintained its stance that she was murdered by the Taliban.

Fazl slams policymakers for India’s growing role in Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A key Pak politician and the leader of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
Fazal Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
has slammed the policymakers of the country regarding the growing role of India in Afghanistan.

Maulana Fazl reportedly made the remarks during his speech in the National Assembly of Pakistain on Monday.

"The United States do not trust us and that is why instead of Pakistain, there is presence of India in Afghanistan," he was quoted as saying in a report by The News.

Referring to the policy statement of Pakistain’s defense minister Khurram Dastgir, Maulana Fazl said that the policymakers of Pakistain believe that the meaning of isolation was that the United States and the western world was not with the country.

"But isolation means that we are not in good relations with neighbouring countries," he added.

This comes as the Pak officials have long been criticizing regarding the growing role of India in Afghanistan and in some stances have accused the security institutions of India and Afghanistan for plotting and destructive activities in Pakistain.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the Afghan officials reject the allegations and insist that New Delhi has played a key role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
regime.

On the other hand, the US officials have also hailed the constructive role of India in Afghanistan and insist on further key role and contribution of India as well as Pakistain for the implementation of the new US strategy.

Trump cuts UNRWA funding amid Abbas assault
[Jpost] The Trump administration informed the UN Relief and Works Agency on Tuesday that it was cutting tens of millions of dollars in aid to the organization, amid an escalating diplomatic crisis between Washington and Ramallah, a US official told The Jerusalem Post.

President Donald Trump heeded the advice of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster ‐ in addition to that of the Israeli government ‐ and agreed to transfer $60 million to the UN body for now, as opposed to cutting all funding outright. But the remaining pledge of $65m. has been withheld "for future consideration," according to a letter sent to the agency.

While the policy decision came out of the State Department, which faced a UN dues payment this week, the question of how to proceed became an interagency debate among Trump’s top foreign policy staff and involved the president himself. Only one of those figures ‐ Nikki Haley, Trump’s ambassador to the UN ‐ advocated for a full and immediate aid cut.

UNRWA is a unique international body originally set up to assist hundreds of thousands of refugees displaced by the Arab war against the establishment of the State of Israel. Now, 70 years later, the organization offers aid the descendants of those refugees, numbering in the millions.

Informing UNRWA of its decision, the Trump administration called for a "fundamental reexamination" of the agency.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed alarm at the consequences of such a move. "I’m very concerned," he told reporters on Tuesday.
Hope you'll have many more reasons to be concerned in the future, Tony

Your article addresses different aspects of the story than mine, g(r)omgoru. I think it is worth keeping, though I am moving it to the UN file with the other instead of Israel. This involves the UN, after all, and will impact Palestinians far beyond the territories Israel conquered in 1967.

US withholds $65 million from UN agency for Palestinians
Gaza, Palestinian “refugee camps”in the Arab world hardest hit.
[IsraelTimes] Making reduced payment of $60 million, State Department official says Washington is undertaking 'a fundamental re-examination' of UNRWA's operations and funding

The United States sent $60 million to keep the UN relief agency for Paleostinians (UNRWA) in operation but withheld a further $65 million while it urged others to pay more, a State Department official said Tuesday.

"There is a need to undertake a fundamental re-examination of UNRWA, both in the way it operates and the way it is funded," the official said.

The official told AFP the decision to withhold some funds was meant to encourage more "burden-sharing" by other members.

"The United States has been UNRWA’s single largest donor for decades. In years past, we contributed some 30 percent of UNRWA’s total income," he said.

"Without the funds we are providing today, UNRWA operations were at risk of running out of funds and closing down.

"The funds provided by the United States will prevent that from happening for the immediate future."

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
earlier this month threatened to cut US aid to the Paleostinians, saying on Twitter that Washington gets "no appreciation or respect" from the Paleostinians.

"We pay the Paleostinians HUNDRED OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect," Trump tweeted on January 3.

"With the Paleostinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?"

Although Trump referred to all US assistance to the Paleostinians, the contribution to the refugee agency would be the first to be affected.

Israel has often criticized UNRWA, accusing it of sheltering holy warriors and allowing Paleostinians to remain refugees even after settling in a new city or country for many generations, thus complicating a possible resolution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.

The State Department announcement was hailed by Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Danny Danon on Tuesday.

"UNRWA has proven time and again to be an agency that misuses the humanitarian aid of the international community and instead supports anti-Israel propaganda, perpetuates the plight of Paleostinian refugees and encourages hate," Danon said in a statement.

"Just over the last year alone, UNRWA officials were elected to the leadership of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", in the Gazoo Strip, UNRWA schools denied the existence of Israel, and terror tunnels were dug under UNRWA facilities. It is time for this absurdity to end and for humanitarian funds to be directed towards their intended purpose ‐ the welfare of refugees," he added.

The agency focuses on providing health care, education and social services to Paleostinians in the West Bank, Gazoo Strip, Jordan, Syria and Leb.

On Monday, the United Nations said the work of the agency was "critical" and if the United States or any other donor cuts its contributions "we will have to find other sources."
Go for it. Perhaps George Soros would like to cover the shortfall.
Human Rights Watch director Kenneth Roth on Monday called the US move "vindictive" and a "bullying tactic," as he urged other governments to step in and fill the gap if the United States decides to definitely cut funding.

"It is vindictive for the US government to deprive the UN of money to feed and educate Paleostinian children in order to blackmail the Paleostinian Authority into rejoining Trump administration-led peace negotiations," Roth said in a statement.
If Human Rights Watch is upset, we’re doing something right.

Erdogan vows to fight US-backed forces with rebels in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

’s planned military operation against Kurdish militia forces in Syria’s Afrin region, speaking from Ottoman Turkish Parliament in Ankara on Tuesday.

His audience of AK party members cheered and chanted as Erdogan announced Turkey’s plan to "demolish terror nests one by one, starting from Afrin and Mumbij".

Speaking on the US administration, Erdogan said, "Those who stabbed us in the back and appear to be our allies and terror-supporting politician lookalikes cannot prevent it."

The Ottoman Turkish leader has repeatedly talked about impending military operations in Syria’s Afrin and Manbij regions. His warnings follow the US-led coalition’s decision to build a 30,000-strong border force with the help of the Kurdish YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Guardian adds:
Ottoman Turkish troops and tanks near the Syrian border are making final plans to attack the US military’s Kurdish partners inside northern Syria as tensions between Ankara and Washington near unprecedented levels.

The area most likely to be invaded by Ottoman Turkish forces is a 60 mile-stretch lying between the towns of Afrin and Manbij, one of the most bitterly contested pockets of territory during the Syrian conflict. The US-raised force is proposed for north-east Syria, which Ankara is not thought to be targeting for a ground attack.

The move seems aimed to strike a symbolic wedge between the north-east and a smaller Kurdish presence along Syria’s north-west border. It would also stake a new marker for relations between Erdogan and the Trump administration, which have steadily deteriorated over the Kurdish issue.

Erdogan said he had not consulted Donald Trump

#1  Kick the Turks out of NATO. We really dont lose anything at this point. But be sure to demolish anything we built for them, like Incirlik AB.

And start economic sanctions - let the Turks learn that their electing this bozo is going to cost them, personally. NO aide, no spares, no free trade. If they want to be their own sultanate, then they get to do it without us. If the Russians are stupid enough to think they will not eventually get backstabbed, then they dont know the Turks.

Take that money and throw it into Kurdistan, bases in Crete (Brit airbase areas) and Crete.

Terror Networks
The Hunt For ISIS Leader al-Baghdadi
[Grauniad] Day and night for the past three years, an unprecedented number of the world’s spies have zeroed in on a patch of Iraq and Syria to hunt for one man. Their target, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group, has eluded them all. But only just.

The most wanted man on the planet has been traced to a specific place at least three times in the past 18 months alone. And despite the protection of a devoted network, there have been other sightings of the reclusive leader, reported by Isis members shortly afterwards and confirmed later by intelligence officers. Being a fugitive in the digital age, or in a losing cause, clearly has its shortfalls.

One 45-second mistake on 3 November 2016 almost cost Baghdadi his “caliphate” before its collapse last year. As Iraqi and Kurdish forces advanced on Mosul, Baghdadi took up a handheld radio in a village between the west of the city and the town of Tal Afar. Spies based in a listening post further north were stunned as his distinctive voice exhorted followers to stand their ground. That rare moment of ill discipline allowed the network of spies chasing Baghdadi to trace him in real time. But then, as on at least two other occasions, there was no time to act. Baghdadi’s entourage knew his cover had probably been blown and whisked him away.

Late last year, he was also traced to a village south of Baaj, again through the brief and careless use of a communications device. The connection was picked up by a signals intelligence network that has penetrated web and phone use in Isis areas. However, it was too fleeting to deploy fighter jets circling above on permanent hunt for targets, and there was no confirmation of exactly where he was hiding.

The morsels of chatter have helped fill in a picture of Baghdadi’s movements – and temperament; the cast-iron discipline of his immediate circle has weak spots after all. His senior leaders, however, have had far more trouble with communications discipline, and slip-ups have often led to their demise.

Three intelligence agencies have confirmed that Baghdadi was seriously wounded in an airstrike near Shirkat in early 2015. Separate sources have confirmed to the Guardian that he spent several months recovering in Baaj. Even now, his movements remain limited by his injuries.

According to witnesses who saw him in Abu Kamal after the end of the Muslim festival of Ramadan, he was looking tired and drawn, a shadow of the confident, black-robed figure who ascended a pulpit in Mosul’s Great Mosque of al-Nuri in mid-2014 to proclaim the “caliphate’s establishment”.

Hashimi said: “Isis has resorted to being a shadow government. They still control small parts of Anbar and Euphrates river but they are sleeper cells. There is no leadership structure, it has dissolved. They do not hold meetings any more – and if they do it is never in the same place twice. They don’t even pass oral messages to each other any more. They use Signal and Telegram [encrypted apps] to communicate.

“They’ve cut back the men by 50%. The main budget cannot be touched any more. Leadership no longer matters.

“I’ve met with [foreign fighter] Abu Hamza al-Belgiki, who feels betrayed, as do all of them. They had been instructed to fight for Mosul till their deaths. When the battles intensified in the city the senior leaders and those close to Baghdadi all fled, leaving these fighters behind. They feel fooled. They have been fooled.”
