F-14 ex-pilots getting cancer from radars on plane?

#2  Any different demographically than flight attendants and crew flying constantly at high altitude (with less protection from sustained solar radiation)?

#3  Fighter pilots are a different sub-species and I would not be surprised if there were multiple lifestyle elements (besides radar exposure) that could increase cancer risk.

#4  The government will now doubt, quickly assume full responsibility.

#5  I've got an extra sarc tag here somewhere if you need it, Besoeker.

#6  Well please stop and consider this: the EA-6B ( RIP) Prowler had a gold coated canopy to prevent entrance of radar waves, as does the various versions of the F/A -18. But to my knowledge there is nothing between the radar transmitter (usually in the nose)and the cockpit; so there may be something to this.
High flying transports and commercial jets' crews are not saying this ame thing so it looks like a rather small sub set.

As to the OBOGS or OBIGGS; these operate via a molecular sieve and do not have any sort of microwaving technology....

#7  High incidents for Leyden jar SCIF moles as well.

#8  How much of the SCIF is constant exposure to airborne chemicals? Comparison to nuke boat crews, particularly attack subs that are "long, black and never come back", would be interesting.

If we are planning on Missions To Mars it is something worth studying.

#9  The F-14. Another magical plane, like the A-10. Any problem anyone has from being around it has to come from somewhere else. Has. To.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Book Review: Dr. Mark Garrison's 'Guts 'N Gunships'
In keeping with our sometimes aviation theme, an excellent read I am sure most here will enjoy.

#2  After the book was published, 'Pigpen' got a call from a reader, a fellow pilot, who told him he had the Plei Trap Valley mission on audio. Here's a portion of it.

Afghanistan
New Paper Highlights Why Trump Should Bring U.S. Troops Home From Afghanistan
[Federalist] In a startling new paper from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, retired colonel Mark Cancian writes about the Afghanistan War. The United States and the Taliban stand on the brink of a framework that would lead to a peace process charting the path for the American troops to come home.

Cancian asks a simple question. The war in Afghanistan was already won by the end of March 2001. The Taliban was decimated, al-Qaeda scuttled, and a government manned by various warlords in place. Why did the United States not leave immediately?

Cancian’s answer wouldn’t surprise anyone who opposed nation-building even in the early days of 2003. The fault was a lack of study of history‐not just modern history, but any history. He writes that U.S. foreign policy mavens and defense planners thought there was a difference between Soviets’ war in Afghanistan and the Western war in Afghanistan.

The common understanding was that the Soviets were occupiers, and the Anglo-Americans were liberators; the Soviets tried to preach communism, while liberal democracy is a natural universal value waiting for everyone to adopt; and the Russians were violent, while the Westerners made sure that civilians were protected even during the war.

These are of course true, and the Russians were far more brutal than the Americans ever were. But Cancian points out that none of that matters to the average Afghan. In its Afghanistan War Americans learned, according to the report, what the Soviets learned the hard way.

#1  All Afghanistan ever needed was the instant ash tray fly over. Iraq was Boosh's folly. Libya was Bath House and Swillary's folly. If we never went we would not be needing a strategery for leaving. Yes, I'm using the dreaded Herb "We..."
Posted by: M. Murcek || 08/19/2019 7:25 Comments || Top||

#2  I'll say this in favor of Boosh. If Kerry had been elected, we'd be in up to our nose instead of just once up to our ass now down to our knees.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 08/19/2019 7:28 Comments || Top||

#3  Oddly I feel better having tried. Now I can believe with 100% confidence that they should be left to rot, isolated and ignored by civilization until they are ready to join on their own.

#4  New Paper ?

Did anyone actually think it would be possible to turn an ancient, Islamic, boy-buggering, opium den of bandits into Switzerland ?

#5  "The war in Afghanistan was already won by the end of March 2001."

I think he meant March 2002.

We could have armed the Northern Alliance and let them loose. The inevitable massacres would have been blamed on us (of course we were blamed anyway). The other thing to remember was that OBL wasn't captured and explaining our leaving Afghanistan without killing him would have been difficult.

#6  Bush declared victory and left (for the most part) at the first opportunity, moving the war to Iraq, where we had a better chance of achieving something, politically and logistically. But noooo, Iraq was the bad war and Afghanistan the good one, so we had to go back and get tangled in that mess.

#7  2001-2002 Punitive Campaign more or less accomplished things. Post WW2 it seemed that a lot of little despots got this charming idea: "If we can't build nukes we can invest in terrorists as 'plausibly deniable' WMDs." (With a sly smirk: "It'd be a shame if someone made a mess in your capitol, eh?")

The inevitable necessary response is to publicly chastise some 'Bad Actor' to convince the other jackasses that 'Actions have Consequences'. So far so good, then the Globalists (eager to spend Other People's Money™) and the Opposition Parties decided we had to stay and "fix Afghanistan". *Argh* (1) The whole point of a Punitive Raid is to cause such pain that Bad Actors will not repeat their behavior and (2) Can Afghanistan be "Fixed" (assuming you can even get a consensus on what "fixed" even means... *Spit*) ??

#8  Why did the United States not leave immediately?

My guess would be the opium.

#10  This country (our country) needs to learn the meaning if punitive campaign.
And then apply it, whenever and wherever needed.
Posted by: Lex || 08/19/2019 18:30 Comments || Top||

#11  The fault was a lack of study of history‐not just modern history, but any history.

Now imagine what our future elites, who only know woke history, will do.

Foreign affairs expert predicts US-China won't reach 'comprehensive' trade deal before 2020 elections
[The Hill] Foreign affairs expert Gordon Chang predicted on Tuesday that the United States and China won’t reach a comprehensive trade deal before the 2020 U.S. elections.

"The markets consistently have underestimated the political considerations on both sides of the Pacific that argue against a deal," Chang, a columnist and author, told Hill.TV during an interview on "Rising."

"So I don’t see a deal coming anytime ‐ certainly not, at least, a comprehensive deal before the elections in our country," he added.

The White House trade office announced Tuesday morning that it plans to delay tariffs on various Chinese imports -- including cell phones, laptop computers, video game consoles, toys, computer monitors, footwear and clothing -- until Dec. 15.

The agency also said that it would exempt an unspecified number of items from a list of Chinese products that will be subject to a 10 percent tariff starting Sept. 1.

The Dow Jones industrial average soared 500 points following news of the delay.

The latest move comes amid President Trump’s escalating trade war with China.

Some Wall Street economists in the past week have warned of rising chances of a recession between now and the 2020 elections, saying Trump’s trade policy is partly to blame. These economic concerns could pose a challenge to Trump as he seeks to tout the economy in his bid for reelection.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas wants to create an illusion it's up for a war with Israel
[Ynet] The renewed rocket attacks on Israel's south is Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,' attempts to neutralize the internal criticism in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, claiming the terror group has been getting too chummy with its mortal enemy, while simultaneously pushing Israeli government into a corner

Every few years, there is an awakening within Hamas' military wing. When the group’s most impassioned and trigger-happy members start feeling there’s not enough adrenaline in the terror groups’ armed wing and begin seeking greener pastures elsewhere.
