Trump Residency at Mar-a-Lago Backed by Palm Beach Town Attorney
Set ‘em up and knock ‘em down.
[EpochTimes] The town attorney for Palm Beach, Florida, said in a memo this week that Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
can continue to live full time at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

John Randolph said in the document that Trump can be considered a bona fide employee of the resort; employees are defined in the town’s code as including business owners and partners.

"If he is a bona fide employee of the club, absent a specific restriction prohibiting former President Trump from residing at the club, it appears the Zoning Code permits him to reside at the club," Randolph wrote.

The memo was obtained by news outlets and published by NPR.

Trump turned Mar-a-Lago into a private club in 1993. During a Town Council meeting that year, Trump’s attorney at the time said that Trump wouldn’t "continue to live" on the property, "except that he will be a member of the club and would be entitled to use the guest rooms."

Some have suggested the statement means Trump may only use the club as a member. Members are barred from residing at Mar-a-Lago for more than three non-consecutive seven-day periods per year.

But the final rules dictating the use of Mar-a-Lago didn’t include a direct prohibition on Trump residing there, Randolph said in his memo, prompting the need for the town to review its zoning code.

Trump lawyer John Marion said in a letter to the town last month that Trump "has the right to reside there."

"Importantly, while the town could have specifically provided in the agreement that the owner could not reside on the property, it did not," he wrote.

Since Trump lived at Mar-a-Lago prior to its conversion to a club, his residency was grandfathered in, his attorney suggested. Trump is, under the town’s zoning, a bona fide employee, his representatives believe.

#1  I hope Trump gets to live at his property. I think he has tried to uphold the bargain he made back at a different era in time, but life has changed, 2021 is not 1993.

I also noted during his Presidency, an undercurrent of basic decency which America has misplaced and misdirected since 1993.

That is reflected in the following:

Memorize His laws 7 and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you're at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. 8 Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them. 9 Write these laws on the door frames of your homes and on your town gates.

Take special note as to the extent that the Democrats are going to cause personal security problems for Trump.

Here they were trying to get him removed from his Private Secured Residence. A location that has limited access, armed well trained private security and a well designed security system to protect him, his family and Staff.

A System & Staff that has been tested and found to successfully worked a number of times in the last 4 years, when tested by Violent Peaceful persons.

#6  #1 And here I thought you're talking about Slovotsky' Laws:

A hero's work is never done. Which is one of the minor reasons I don't recommend the profession.

When it comes to throwing a fit, it's better to give than to receive -- and much better to avoid the whole thing entirely.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission.

Boldness is like a condom. If you depend on it all the time, no matter how good it is, and no matter how good you are, eventually it will break.

I always have a fallback position whenever I take a risk. If all else fails, I'll die horribly, at great length, and in great pain. Mind you, it's not a good fallback position...

Relax, the universe is out to get you.

When it comes to dealing with the law of averages, it's best to be a habitual offender.

#7  what is this "law 7"

The text Moses Deuteronomy6 copied from has the Bible verse numbers included to show where each verse begins. It’s from Deuteronomy: chapter 6: verses 5-9, the second part of the Shema, the Jewish profession of faith that traditional Jews recite twice daily and upon their death.

The entire thing goes:

Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is One.

Blessed is the name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever.

And then bit from Deuteronomy 6: 5-9:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day. Teach them to your children. Speak of them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them serve as a symbol on your forehead, inscribe them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

I used to be able to chant this from memory in Hebrew, but it’s been a while. There is also a third section with rewards and punishments that I never bothered memorizing, because I’d already made my choice, and then more as one gets deeper into the readings and prayers of the service. But I was an odd child, preferring to read the prayers afresh each time in order to stimulate fresh pondering on this or that bit as it caught my fancy, once I had enough Hebrew to do so. It was yet more interesting things to learn about — plus the cantor’s glorious voice chanting key bits as we went along, and my mother harmonizing in her lovely mezzo-soprano in the next seat. ;-)

Cuomo, Teacher Unions, And Tax Hikes: McConnell's Top Targets In The Reconciliation Vote-A-Rama
h/t HotAir
Democrats might get to use reconciliation to push Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief/stimulus bill, but it comes with a cost. The same parliamentary procedure that allows the majority to get around the filibuster also allows the minority almost unlimited opportunities to propose amendments, which must receive a floor vote. The process colloquially known as "vote-a-rama" usually takes hours and allows the minority to impose a steep price in terms of taking potentially embarrassing votes.

...To say that the GOP is licking its chops at the prospect might be to engage in understatement. Mitch McConnell’s office sent out this release a few minutes ago highlighting the opening round of amendments, and it’s going to get pretty uncomfortable across the aisle. One amendment takes a direct swipe at Andrew Cuomo and his cover-up of nursing-home deaths, while another takes aim at teachers unions who got ahead of the line for vaccinations and still refuse to show up for work. Plus, McConnell plans to force Senate Democrats to vote for an explicit authorization to send stimulus checks to illegal immigrants
Politics are the art of the possible - McConnell’s playing the cards he's been dealt is, IMO, pure genius.

New Senate intel chief wants to reimagine 'decimated' spy agency
[Politico] Some Democrats may be eager to use their newfound power in Washington to investigate the misdeeds of the Trump era. But Mark Warner isn’t interested in performing an autopsy of the last four years in the U.S. intelligence community.

The Virginia Democrat and newly installed chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee doesn’t believe he would best serve the country by launching probes into the political pressure spy agencies faced under former President Donald Trump, who labeled elements within the intelligence community part of the "deep state" and clashed with them over issues like Russian election interference. Instead, Warner would rather focus on depoliticizing and rebuilding the clandestine organizations.

"I’ve thought about it, obviously," Warner said when asked about the possible investigations during a nearly hour-long interview in his Senate office this week. But, he added, "I don't know if that's really the best use of the committee's time."

In particular, the government’s top spy agency — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence — emerged "decimated" and "in shambles" from the last four years, he said. Trump frequently targeted the office, whose last two chiefs, Richard Grenell and John Ratcliffe, had little experience in intelligence but were close allies of the former president.

Weeks before last year’s election, Ratcliffe declassified unverified Russian intelligence over the concerns of the CIA and National Security Agency in order to boost Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about the federal government’s efforts to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Dems Heap Praise On New Romney Proposal To Send Checks To Families With Children Every Month
[HOT Air] The Romney plan is called the Family Security Act and would make benefits to adults with children both more generous and more easily available than they are currently. Right now there are various obstacles to getting some sugar from Uncle Sam if you’re a parent. For starters, you only qualify if you have income: The current child tax credit is refundable, meaning that you get zippo if you’re not earning anything. It’s also capped at just $2,000 per year. And of course, being a tax credit, it doesn’t arrive in your bank account until tax season.

Romney wants to chuck all of that and start over. No more tax credits. From now on, families get a monthly welfare check depending upon how old their children are. Each child under age six gets $350 per month (or $4,200 per year, higher than Biden’s plan) while each child between the ages of 6 and 17 gets $250 (or $3,000 per year), with a total monthly cap of $1,250 (i.e. $15,000 annually) per family. Importantly, there’s no income requirement anymore. Because it’s not a tax credit, there’s nothing to "refund." If you have a kid and your household is below the very high income cutoff of $400,000 you get a check — even if you’re out of work.

And in fact, Mitt’s plan does compare favorably to Biden’s plan in terms of generosity of benefits:

House Votes to Strip Marjorie Taylor Greene of Committee Assignments
[PJ] On Thursday evening, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments over her previous comments supporting conspiracy theories like QAnon, 9/11 "truth," Jewish space lasers, and the idea that school shootings were "false flags." Greene had expressed regret for the statements and explicitly disavowed some of the more noxious conspiracy theories.

The House voted, 230-199, in favor of H.Res. 72, striking Greene from her assignments on the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee on the Budget. Eleven Republicans joined 219 Democrats in voting for the resolution.

Before the vote, Greene herself said she regrets the statements she made. She also explicitly disavowed some of the conspiracies, declaring that "school shootings are absolutely real," and adding, "I also want to tell you, 9/11 absolutely happened."

"I decided to run for Congress because I want to help our country," Greene added. "I never once said, during my entire campaign, ’QAnon.’ ... I never said any of these things since I had been elected to Congress. These were words of the past and these things do not represent me, they do not represent my district, and they do not represent my values."

She transitioned to discuss the gospel, saying "none of us are perfect."

"And if this Congress is to tolerate members that condone riots that have hurt American people, attacked police officers, occupied federal property, burned businesses in cities, but yet wants to condemn me and crucify me in the public square for words that I said and I regret a few years ago, then I think we are in a real big problem, a very big problem," Greene warned.

Treason is defined in the Constitution as giving aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war. Anything else is NOT treason. It might be sedition, or some other crime, but it is not treason.

My theory is that the framers put this into the Constitution because they were tired of the king/Parliament charging people with treason if they did something the king didn't like.

Just don't mention the Death Ray or the dreaded PeePeeShriveling Device. Those are super secret!

Better than the average link...

Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
