Taliban Keeps Close Ties with Al-Qaeda: Report
[ToloNews] Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
has kept up a close relationship with al-Qaeda despite having pledged to stop cooperating with the group, according to the head of a UN panel monitoring the insurgency reported by NBC news.

"We believe that the top leadership of al-Qaeda is still under Taliban protection," said the head of the UNB panel that tracks terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

The Taliban's association with al-Qaeda has continued even though the Taliban signed an agreement with the US a year ago that bans cooperation with or hosting of groups — and despite a public statement by Trump administration Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the Taliban had "made the break with terrorist groups."

According to the UN monitoring team's last report in January, there are 200 to 500 al-Qaeda gunnies across about 11 Afghan provinces.
"There is still clearly a close relationship between Al Qaeda and the Taliban," said Edmund Fitton-Brown, the coordinator of the UN panel responsible for tracking the Taliban and terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

The reports of the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team are based in part on information shared by foreign governments' intelligence services.

"We believe that the top leadership of Al Qaeda is still under Taliban protection," he said.

According to the UN monitoring team's last report in January, there are 200 to 500 al-Qaeda gunnies across about 11 Afghan provinces.

Experts say untangling two groups that have lived and fought alongside each other for decades — and have even intermarried — will be difficult.

Dostum: Al Qaeda Footprint Seen in North of Afghanistan

[ToloNews] Former Vice President Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
on Wednesday said that there is still a presence of some top Al Qaeda affiliates in northern Afghanistan who have close ties with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Dostum said that Nasruddin, who is the grandson of Al Qaeda's founder the late Osama bin Laden
...... who is now sometimes referred to as Mister Bones......
, and Saifuddin Haqqani, the son of Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
, are currently in the Ghormach
...Faryab Province...
and Bala Murghab
...Badghis Province...
districts in the north.

Dostum suggested that the Taliban return to the negotiation table instead of making trips to other countries, and tthat the group will not be able to achieve victory through war.

"I want to suggest that the security forces shoot them, after this. They should no longer fire in the air. Shoot them (the Taliban) in their foreheads and their chests so that they (Taliban) can see the reaction of their deeds—in case the Taliban do not accept the peace," said Dostum.

Referring to the recent rhetoric by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
, the leader of Hizb-e-Islami, Dostum said that he will not allow Hekmatyar to challenge the political system and government.

Dostum made the remarks at a ceremony commemorating the 580th death anniversary of the prominent philosopher, poet and writer Amir Ali-Shir Nava'i.

Ali Sher Nava'i was born in 1441 in the western province of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
. He died in 1501.

During Navai's lifetime, Herat was under the rule of the Timurid Empire and it became one of the leading cultural and intellectual centers in the Moslem world.

Dostum concluded that peace will not prevail in Afghanistan without safeguarding the rights of the women and freedom of speech.

New Zealand to pull remaining troops out of Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] New Zealand announced to withdraw its troops and conclude its military mission in Afghanistan by May 2021.

Janidra Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta, and Defense Minister Peeni Henare announced that the country will withdraw its troops and end the military missions in Afghanistan.

"After 20 years of an NZDF presence in Afghanistan, it is now time to conclude our deployment," Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern s said.

"The deployments to Afghanistan have been one of the longest-running in our history, and I wish to acknowledge the 10 New Zealanders who bit the dust in the line of duty, and the more than 3,500 NZDF and other agency personnel, whose commitment to replace conflict with peace will always be remembered," she added.

New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta stated that although the environment remains complex, the intra-Afghan grinding of the peace processor affords Afghanistan the best prospect of an enduring political solution.

Nanaia Mahuta, New Zealander Foreign Minister indicated that despite the environment being complex, the best prospect of enduring political solution is in intra-Afghan talks.

"New Zealand’s decision to conclude its deployment to Afghanistan in 2021 has been discussed with our key partners, with whom we have cooperated closely over the last twenty years," Nanaia said

"New Zealand will continue to be supportive of the Afghan Government and its people in the years to come, including as they work through the intra-Afghan grinding of the peace processor in an effort to resolve the decades-long conflict," she added.

According to Defense Minister Peeni Henare, New Zealand Defense forces have six personnel remaining in the country, three are stationed in Afghanistan National Army Officer Academy and three others are deployed to NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
resolute support headquarters.

"Together with our partners, New Zealand helped to establish the conditions for the current intra-Afghan grinding of the peace processor. We’ve supported regional security, and helped to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan, particularly in Bamyan Province.

"Another important element of New Zealand’s support for Afghanistan has been our contribution to training and mentoring a new generation of Officers in the Afghanistan Army. The success of the mentoring program being conducted with the Afghanistan National Army Officer Academy means it is now self-sufficient enough for New Zealand’s contribution there to conclude," Henare said.

Russia favors ‘transitional coalition government’ in Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] Zamir Kabulov, Russian Special Envoy for Afghanistan in an Interview with Sputnik said that Russia is in favor of an inclusive and transitional coalition government in Afghanistan.

Kabulov in his interview said the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
alleged agenda to take full control of Afghanistan, which would result in bad scenarios if the group insists on such an approach, however, he said Russia believes in the transitional coalition government in which the Taliban will have a status.

"In the first phase — there is a need for the establishment of a transitional coalition government which could be able to lead and control both parties — later, there is a need to form a new government to help resolve the problems," he said.

The Russian envoy said peace talks have failed in Doha and called for the process to proceed in Moscow format, where there is the presence of all parties US, Russia, China, and the neighboring countries of Afghanistan.

The insistence of the Taliban on the return of emirate will jeopardize the entire grinding of the peace processor.
Talks in Doha are only about making contact, and not over the grinding of the peace processor, he added "I have been assigned a task by the leadership to facilitate the start of intra-Afghan talks by undertaking discussions within the framework of a (three-way party meeting) which includes Russia, the US, and China. We have agreed about such a meeting with the US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad; there is a possibility that this meeting will be held in Moscow,".

The insistence of the Taliban on the return of emirate will jeopardize the entire grinding of the peace processor, "If the discussion is focused on taking complete control, this will be a bad scenario," Kabulov told Sputnik.

Russia Kabulov said Russia prefers the establishment of a transitional coalition government that also determines the Taliban’s political status, he added, that delays in the main peace talks could lead to the expansion of Taliban influence in the area, who according to Kabulov currently controls 75 percent of Afghanistan.

But Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, said in response to Kabulov’s remarks that an interim government in Afghanistan is not a solution and the decision depends on the people of Afghanistan.

HCNR Chairman in response to Kabulov said that interim government is not a solution but the decision depends on the People of Afghanistan.

"The people of Afghanistan sit at the negotiating table and set the path for themselves, the establishment of just an interim government cannot be the solution," ATN News quoted Abdullah.

During the inauguration of the Human Rights Commission of HCNR, Abdullah Abdullah raised concerns over escalated violence, assassinations.

"If one side wants to show that they are more capable of killing innocent people by targeting human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
activists or civilians, I do not think this is a peaceful solution," Abdullah added.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia set to raise oil output amid recovery in prices: WSJ
[AlAhram] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
plans to increase oil output in the coming months, reversing a recent production cut, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing advisers to the country.

Saudi Arabia is expected to announce its plans when a coalition of oil producers meets next month, according to the WSJ report, adding that the output rise won't kick in until April.
Hopefully they’s be smart and set aside all the excess profits for the coming rainy day.

Britain
Report: British police foiled plot to poison Prince George’s ice cream
[IsraelTimes] A man on trial in Britannia for allegedly planning a terror attack has spoken of a plot to poison Prince George’s ice cream, reports Sky News.

Sahayb Abu, 27, is being prosecuted for purchasing a sword and balaclavas for a terror attack. He was arrested in July.

According to Sky News, he described a conversation he had with an undercover police officer over the alleged plot, which ultimately landed an unidentified suspect in jail for 28 years.

"You know what his plan was? Say like the Royal Family house is there, go to the nearest Sainsbury’s and... put poison in the ice creams so the Royal Family will go and buy the ice creams from there.

"They’re gonna go buy some ice creams and then most likely the son will eat it."

Update at 3:10 p.m. ET. I couldn’t find anything on the gentleman in the Rantburg archives, so took a moment to search the internet, where I found this, from a few days ago:

Brexit leader slams UK verdict granting refugee status to wanted Egyptian terrorist
[AlAhram] The UK Home Office said it will be 'carefully considering’ its next course of action about the court ruling

Nigel Farage, the current leader of the Brexit Party and former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), slammed a UK Appeal Court ruling granting refugee status to an Egyptian terrorist who has been sentenced to death in Egypt, Farage said in a video on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Yasser El-Sirri,
...somewhat more formally Yasser Tawfiq Ali El-Sirri. In Egypt he was connected to connected to the Vanguards of Conquest and al-Jama'a al-Islamiyya, both of which followed Ayman al-Zawahiri to merge with Al Qaeda. In England he found employment as the director of Islamic Information Centre...
who has been seeking asylum since 1994, was sentenced to death in Egypt in 1993 over an liquidation attempt against former premier Atef Sidky, which resulted in the killing of a maiden of tender years.

The UK Home Office has contested Sirri’s requests for asylum and sought to deport him many times, but the Appeal Court ruled in his favor last week.

The Home Office said it will be "carefully considering" its next course of action about the court ruling.

"Despite the danger that [Sirri] represents, this man will be allowed to stay in the United Kingdom as a refugee," Farage said in his video.

Sirri, who has been a proponent of violent mostly peaceful jihad, has claimed asylum more than eight times, costing British taxpayers £2 million (over EGP 43 million), but every time his appeal was rejected.

Egypt has called on the UK to extradite Sirri several times. A British government document from the 1990s, which was released in early February this year, says that Egypt asked the UK to extradite Sirri two days before the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, but the UK turned down the request.

Sirri was later arrested in October by the British authorities after being involved in the killing of Ahmed Shah Masoud, former leader of the Northern Alliance forces in Afghanistan on 9 September 2001.

Former Tory MP Patrick Mercer has described Sirri as "a dangerous individual."

Besides the liquidation plot that Sirri was involved in

In the wake of the Luxor massacre of 1997, Egypt issued a list of 14 wanted bandidos Lions of Islam that included Sirri.

Sirri was also charged in the US with assisting someone involved in the 1993 World Trade Centre bombing. In 2003, he defended Taliban

propaganda videos of an American vehicle exploding. He also called the death of 9/11 criminal mastermind the late Osama bin Laden

Caribbean-Latin America
Chihuahua state prosecutor denies nexus between drug gangs
An apparent nexus between the Juarez cartel and the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel does not exist, according to the Chihuahua state Procuradoria del Estado (PGE).

Cesar Augusto Peniche was quoted in El Diario de Parral Mexican news daily, saying that his office had not detected "a piece of information" that would indicate a nexus between La Linea and Jalisco Nuevo Generacion.

Peniche's denial likely stems from a news item which appeared in the online edition of El Heraldo de Chihuahua Sunday, which reported a meeting between the Jalisco Nuevo Generacion Cartel and La Linea drug cartel. The sources for the report were anonymous, but no direct indications or quotes, which would indicate the PGE and local prosecutors were aware of a meeting between the two criminal organizations some weeks ago.

The article states that private messaging among prosecutors took place in the wake of the meeting. The thrust of the news article was that an alliance, or an agreement, did take place.

The purpose of the alliance tentatively was to "end the Sinaloa Cartel", according to the news report.

Reports of the shootout and photos from the shootout in Valla Coronado municipality in southern Chihuahua state Sunday seemed to confirm such an alliance was in operation.

The details of that meeting or its location was not disclosed in the article. A Juarez cartel, La Empresa, was also mentioned in the report as being a factor in increased violent activity in Chihuahua state.

Peniche said that recruiting for the cartels occurring in other states, but nothing which would indicate an alliance. He also said his office had no indication that migrants were being recruited as well.

Peniche also said that an internal disute within a drug cartel are being investigated.

French minister warns against ‘Islamo-leftism’ in universities
[IsraelTimes] Comments by Frederique Vidal come as Macron faces accusations of pandering to far-right with talk of ’Islamist separatism’ ahead of presidential elections.

The French minister for higher education has sparked a backlash from university heads after warning about the spread of "Islamo-leftism" in the country’s academic institutions.

The term "Islamo-leftism" is often used in La Belle France by far-right politicians to discredit left-wing opponents they accuse of being blind to the dangers of Islamist extremism and overly worried about racism and identity.

Nobody needs 'minority research' or 'racial studies' or some goddamn islamo-apologetics or afrocentrism dressed as history. It's just classist, racist, culture-war propaganda which leads up to things like the ISIS and 'trained marxists' attacking people for heir skin color or their uniform. Shut it all down if you want your citizens to be safer.

Even as academics go, these subjects are full of shit. Just patently untrue facts and conjecture by compulsively bohemian 'Doctorates' who probably got into colleges like the Huffman kid did. And then they produce this swill.

Fifth Column
Plaintiffs drop federal suit in Kyle Rittenhouse case
Antifa/BLM lawfare, so moved to Fifth Column on Page 2: War on TerrorPolitics/Background.
[KenoshaNews] The plaintiffs in a civil suit filed against Kyle Rittenhouse, Facebook and the Kenosha Guard dropped their suit this week.

Rittenhouse, 18, of Antioch, Ill., is accused of killing two men and severely injuring a third during the August protests that occurred in the aftermath of the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha police officer. He has pleaded not guilty, arguing that he fired in self-defense.

The suit, filed in September, had sought to use Reconstruction-era federal law inspired by the rise of the Ku Klux Klan to seek damages from: Rittenhouse; the Kenosha Guard militia and its “commander” Kevin Mathewson; the Boogaloo Bois, a far-right, antigovernmental organization; and a West Bend man who identified himself to the media as a member of the Boogaloo Bois and said he was in Kenosha during the August protests.

The suit alleged that Facebook was negligent in allowing Mathewson and the Kenosha Guard to put out a call for militia members to come to the city, and alleged that the defendants had conspired to violate their civil rights.

Plaintiffs in the suit included Hannah Gittings, the girlfriend of Silver Lake resident Anthony Huber,
...the sweet, 26 year old Antifa lad filmed trying to brain young Kyle with a skateboard, the proud holder of a criminal history that included battery and repeated domestic abuse...
one of two men killed in the Rittenhouse shootings on Aug. 25. Also named as plaintiffs were three people who were at the protests who said they were harassed and threatened by militia members.
They would be Christopher McNeal, a Black resident of Kenosha; Nathan Peer, a Kenosha resident; and Carmen Palmer, a Black Milwaukee resident. Odd that they aren’t named...
NO EXPLANATION PROVIDED
Jason Flores-Williams, the attorney for the plaintiffs, filed a notice of dismissal with prejudice this week. Being dismissed with prejudice means it was dismissed permanently and will not be refiled. The notice does not give an explanation for withdrawing the suit. “In concluding the case we have agreed to no comment,” Flores-Williams said in an email.

Earlier, Flores-Williams and the attorney he originally worked with on the suit had a public spat over the case, with attorney Jennifer Sirrine withdrawing. In her motion to withdraw, Sirrine accused Flores-Williams of harassing and underpaying her. In that filing, Sirrine wrote that Gittings and another of the plaintiffs emailed her saying they wanted to end their attorney-client relationship due to “broken trust.”

Other possible suits in the Rittenhouse case are still pending. Earlier this month, attorneys for Huber’s family and Gaige Grosskreutz, 26,
...there with the People’s Revolution Movement, a faction of Milwaukee’s Black Lives Matter. He was aiming his own gun at young Kyle when the lad shot him...
who was seriously injured in the shootings, filed notices of claim indicating they will sue the City of Kenosha and Kenosha County, alleging that law enforcement negligence contributed to the shootings.

border would be finished by June this year, while the fencing of the Pak border with Afghanistan is 89 percent complete.

Talking to a foreign news agency, Rashid said that fencing of the Pakistain-Iran border is 38 percent complete. "Infiltration, smuggling and many illegal activities are taking place without any check on the Pak borders with Afghanistan and Iran," said the minister. "Now, after fencing, these things will be controlled."

#1  Isn't this somewhat like putting up a fence that divides your toilet bowl down the middle?

#3  Meanwhile our own border wall has been halted. Good thing we have a fence around the capitol--at least it keeps the inmates in the asylum and gives us some measure of protection from them.

nuclear threat, COVID.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone with US President Joe Biden Tuesday for the first time since the president took office four weeks ago.

Netanyahu was the first Middle Eastern leader to receive a call from Biden, but the 12th world leader overall. The long weeks of silence since Biden took office had led many to wonder whether the White House was snubbing its longtime ally, given Netanyahu’s frosty relationship with former Democratic president Barack Obama and his overwhelmingly warm ties with the more recent Donald Trump.

The conversation was “very friendly and warm and lasted about an hour,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The White House did not immediately comment on the call. Asked about the call by reporters in the Oval Office, Biden said it was a “good conversation” without elaborating further.

A later White House readout said Biden “affirmed his personal history of steadfast commitment to Israel’s security and conveyed his intent to strengthen all aspects of the U.S.-Israel partnership, including our strong defense cooperation.”

Prisoner swap said snagged: 2 Golan residents refuse to leave Israel for Syria
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem is reportedly ready to deport the two security prisoners in return for release of Israeli woman held by Damascus; officials believe matter will be resolved in days

A Russian-brokered prisoner exchange between Israel and Syria is being held up by the refusal of two Syrian security prisoners in the Jewish state to be deported to Damascus, Israeli officials told Hebrew media Wednesday.

Israel is seeking the release of an Israeli woman who recently crossed the border and was arrested. The woman, who hasn’t been identified, is reportedly a 25-year-old from Modiin Illit who left the ultra-Orthodox community. It is unclear why she entered Syria.

Iran's Khamenei demands 'action, not words' from Biden to revive nuclear deal
[AlAhram] Tehran has set a deadline of next week for President Joe Biden to begin reversing sanctions imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump.
So now we all know. The ball is in your court, Mr. President.

#1  This is actually one of the better laughs this day. Actions, not words on anything from Biden? Ha! (Which, by the way, is about the only thing comforting us these days--the utter and complete inefficiency of the new administration and its bureaucracy.)
