mines in three days only in Hayran district alone, following big advances in the fifth military area in Hajjah governorate.

Specialized Yemeni forces have been dedicated to destroying mines planted by Houthis.

On a bigger scale, Yemeni forces have been able to destroy hundreds of thousands of mines out of a million mines planted by Houthi militias in all Yemeni governorates and villages.

Houthis have been known for planting mines the moment they sense their upcoming defeat.

In the southern governorate of Dhale, dozens of Houthis were killed and injured and ten were detained, including field military leaders, in violent confrontations with the Yemeni forces.

The Yemeni army, with support from the Arab Coalition, has been fighting Houthis in the city of Damt for days, and was successful in liberating big parts of it.

In Hodeidah, Yemeni sources confirmed the death and injury of dozens of Houthis on different battle fronts, whereas the Yemeni army continued to advance towards the northern entrance of the city.

The advances come with great Houthi losses and the fleeing of dozens of militias from the front lines to the internal neighborhoods of the city.

Man tries self-immolation with wine, held for weapons pics
[IsraelTimes] Suspect held in La Belle France on potential charge of condoning terrorism after growing angry over request to show conductor his train ticket

A man who doused himself with wine and tried to self-immolate on a train and waved a phone showing images of armed combatants is being held by French police on a potential terrorism charge.

A French official said Wednesday the man was tackled by a soldier and a police officer, both off duty. The high-speed TGV train was traveling Tuesday from Lille in the north to Montpellier in the south.

The official said the man, who identified himself as Syrian, grew angry when a conductor asked him for a ticket, which he didn’t have. The official wasn’t authorized to discuss the detention publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The newspaper Le Progres, which first reported the arrest, said the wine was a rose.

The man was held on a possible charge of condoning terrorism, having allegedly brandished his phone with photos and video of combatants with weapons, the official said.

Tuesday marked the third anniversary of gun and kabooms that killed 130 people in the Bataclan concert hall and other sites in Gay Paree in 2015.

The court in Edirne, northwest Turkey, sentenced her on Wednesday to six years and three months in jail, her lawyer Mustafa Pekoz said, adding that she would appeal.

According to her family, the prosecution relied on photographs of Inac with fighters from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which Turkey considers to be a "terrorist offshoot" of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Inac was convicted of being a member of the PKK, which is blacklisted as a terror organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union

Bajaur Press Club closed over terror threat
[DAWN] The Bajaur Press Club was closed for an indefinite period on Tuesday following threats of terror attacks.

The press club president Hasbanullah Khan told Dawn here that though he did not know about the threats, but the club had been shut down on the directives of bigwigs of the local administration.

Quoting the officials, Mr Khan said they had received information that some unknown miscreants planned to carry out terrorist attacks on the press club building, ’hence you’re advised to keep the club shut for an indefinite period to thwart any unpleasant incident.’

Following the instructions, the press club president said an emergency meeting of the senior journalists was held to discuss the situation in which the participants unanimously decided to shut the club for indefinite period.

Before shutting the press club, scores of Levies personnel arrived on the spot and took position at various places.

The Levies personnel also evacuated vehicles from a nearby bus stand owing to security concerns.

Iraq
PKK has gone quiet in Duhok after US bounties: local official
[Rudaw] A local official in Duhok province believes the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s activities have been affected by recent US bounties on the heads of three senior commanders of the party.

The US last week announced bounties collectively totaling up to $12 million for information leading to the capture of three senior PKK leaders: Murat Karayilan, Cemil Bayik, and Duran Kalkan.

"This has made the PKK show up less often," Sarbast Akrayi, head of Kani Masi sub-district, told Rudaw English on Wednesday.

Kani Masi is located in Duhok province’s Amedi district on the Kurdistan Region’s border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
With the PKK less active, Ottoman Turkish bombardments have decreased, Akrayi explained.

Turkey frequently carries out Arclight airstrikes against alleged PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region. The country’s Ministry of Defence reported on Tuesday they have "neutralized" 57 "terrorists" in aerial operations in northern Iraq in the last four days. Ottoman Turkish armed forces use the term "neutralized" to refer to those killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

The Amedi district has always been a hotspot for conflict, both the decades-long PKK-Turkey conflict and Kurdish uprisings against the former Iraqi regime.

"Therefore, the people are used to such things," Akrayi said of the reaction of local residents to the bombardments.

The most devastating period of the PKK-Turkey conflict in this area was between 2015 and 2017 when 4,000 acres of land were desolated, 26 villages were abandoned, and 18 houses were destroyed, Akrayi explained.

The people were left with an estimated 2.3 billion dinars ($1.9 million) in material losses, the official said.

There are 76 villages in the sub-district with a population of 10,000.

The PKK have not completely halted activities, however. Guerrilla forces attacked Ottoman Turkish positions in Erbil province’s Sidakan sub-district early on Wednesday, which was followed by Ottoman Turkish bombardment on the region, according to local mayor Ihsan Chalabi.

"Turkey bombarded Mount Del and borders of Khalifan, Siran, Shelkan, and Blasanan villages at 9:00 am, Wednesday, lasting for 45 minutes," he told Rudaw, adding that the attack was in response to a PKK strike half an hour earlier.

There were no reports of casualties or material losses.

Speaking to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), the source pointed out that security forces, backed by the Air Force, carried out numerous landing operations in Badush heights and Hatra districts in Nineveh after receiving intelligence reports about the presence of several IS holy warriors there.

"More than 20 IS bad boyz were potted in the military operation," the source said, warning that dormant cells of the turban group are still active in some parts of Nineveh.

4 policemen lightly hurt in Jerusalem stabbing attack
[Ynet] Assailant shot, maimed while carrying out assault at entrance to cop shoppe in south of city; one of the officers was apparently hurt by friendly fire

Four coppers were maimed in a stabbing attack Wednesday at a cop shoppe in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood.

Police said the attacker arrived at the entrance to the cop shoppe and attacked three officers, lightly injuring them. He was shot and seriously injured.

During the scuffle a fourth officer was lightly hurt by shrapnel as others shot at the attacker.

The attacker was restrained by officers on the scene, according to police.

They said the attacker was nabbed
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
and security was being heightened in the area.

Police front man Micky Rosenfeld said officers were searching the nearby area to ensure there were no other persons involved in the attack.

The Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, some of which is in former no-man’s land between East and West Jerusalem, has been the scene of several attacks in past years, including during a wave of stabbings in 2015 and 2016.

In January 2017, a Paleostinian driver rammed his truck into a group of soldiers visiting a popular promenade in the neighborhood, killing four.

IDF shoots Gazan approaching border fence, reportedly killing him
[IsraelTimes] Man killed identified as 20-year-old fisherman; earlier second Gazook was shot and locked away
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
after approaching fence. Overall the day was calm but tense.

A Gazoo man was rubbed out by Israeli troops Wednesday after approaching the security fence on the Israeli border, according to the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-controlled Gazoo health ministry, as tensions persisted after a ceasefire Tuesday ended some of the heaviest fighting in years.

The Israeli military confirmed that soldiers opened fire as a group of Paleostinian men were spotted walking toward the border fence in the northern Gazoo Strip, near the Israeli community of Kibbutz Zikim. According to media reports, the suspect was shot as he continued approaching the fence despite warning shots being fired.

An army spokesperson said the soldiers "operated in accordance with the rules of engagement."

The Paleostinian man was identified by the health ministry as 20-year-old Nawaf Ahmad al-Attar, a fisherman.

Paleostinian media outlets reported that al-Attar had been killed at sea ‐ something the IDF denied.

Earlier in the day, Israeli troops shot and arrested a Paleostinian man who threw a number of grenades at the security fence in the northern Gazoo Strip, the army said. The grenades failed to explode.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, when he was arrested, the suspect was found to be in possession of a pair of boltcutters and a knife.

The two incidents came less than a day into a fragile ceasefire between Israel and terror groups in the Strip, after more than 460 rockets and mortars were fired into southern Israel over the course of 25 hours, killing one person. The military responded to the rockets with Arclight airstrikes throughout the Gazoo Strip.

There were no reports of rocket fire into Israel, or of Israeli strikes on Gazoo, since Tuesday afternoon, when the ceasefire reportedly went into effect. Paleostinians said the truce was brokered by Egypt.

Israel has yet to formally confirm the existence of a ceasefire, but senior diplomatic officials indicated that Jerusalem would abide by it so long as terror groups in the Strip did as well. In addition, the IDF Home Front Command on Tuesday night removed all restrictions on residents of southern Israel, declaring a "return to normality."

Nevertheless, the IDF still kept reinforcements in place surrounding Gazoo.

For second day, Israelis burn tires, block roads in south over Gaza violence

[IsraelTimes] Over 100 demonstrators gathered at entrances to Sderot and Ashkelon as criticism persists over ceasefire ending intense border flareup.

Channel 10 reported that the residents intend to take their protest tomorrow to Tel Aviv, where they will demonstrate near the Defense Ministry headquarters.

Hundreds took part in a similar demonstration on Tuesday after a ceasefire between Israel and the Gazoo Strip’s Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, rulers took effect following the largest barrage of rockets on southern Israeli communities since the 2014 Gazoo war.

The ceasefire, which Israel has been loathe to officially recognize, has been condemned by many in the country and was cited by Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman in his resignation announcement earlier Wednesday.

At a presser announcing his resignation, Liberman called the ceasefire a "capitulation to terror" and said Israel should have responded more forcefully to the firing of rockets and mortars from Gazoo.

The ceasefire was hailed by Hamas as a victory ostensibly imposed on Israel on Hamas’s terms. Rocket fire at Israel came to a halt on Tuesday afternoon, after two days of incessant attacks.

Southeast Asia
Scores of IS militants remain in Mindanao
[Guardian] The threat of Islamic State is mounting again in the Philippines, with estimates there could be between 40 to 100 foreign fighters, and a growing momentum among local pro-Islamic State militant groups.

Prof Rommel Banlaoi, chairman of the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, said that he had seen records of up to 100 foreign fighters on the island – a combination of old and new arrivals since the Marawi siege last year – who want to re-establish the east Asia wilayah crushed in the fighting. Banlaoi said the fighters in Mindanao had mainly traveled from neighbouring Indonesia and Malaysia but also Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Middle East.

A high-ranking intelligence officer gave figures of that closely matched Banlaoi’s records. “There are about 40 foreign fighters remaining in the country, but 40 others are in the watchlist,” said the officer.

The presence of foreign fighters is known to embolden rebels and there are increasing concerns of a renewed bid to declare a caliphate in Mindanao. The threat is highlighted by an apparent suicide bombing by a foreign fighter from Morocco in July that killed 11 people. It was claimed by Isis as a “martyrdom” operation.

“Foreign fighters are in the Philippines because they consider the country, particularly Mindanao, as a safe haven, alternative home base and a new land of jihad,” explained Banlaoi, who said he had seen a lot of chatter on the east Asia wilayah on IS social media recently.

“They train and learn from local fighters. They provide funds. They provide a global support network,” he added.

In Malaysia, Ahmad el-Muhammady, who consults with the authorities on de-radicalization of Islamist militants, said the concern over foreign fighters in Mindanao was growing and “the Malaysian intelligence community is closely monitoring the situation”.

As well as often having more experience with conflict, foreign fighters “play a very important role in bridging the parochial divides between Filipino groups” said Zachary Abuza, south-east Asia analyst at the National War College.

“Look at Marawi [and] what happens with Philippine-based IS groups work together. And often foreign fighters try to cajole local militants to escalate the violence,” he said.

Abuza calculated there were up to 40 foreign fighters in Mindanao and he emphasized the serious threat they posed. He said, "Many seek the relative sanctuary of the southern Philippines. There they can regroup, train and plot attacks. With IS’s declaration of an east Asia wilayah, the southern Philippines becomes more important because there is enough ungoverned or very poorly governed space.”

“There are IS cells in Malaysia and Singapore but they don’t control any territory. You can’t be province of the caliphate without territory,” he said.

Maute brothers' teen cousin surrenders in Mindanao
[Inquirer] A 15-year-old cousin of the founders of the Maute terrorist group surrendered to the Joint Task Force Ranao in Butig, Lanao del Sur.

Major Clint Antipala identified the Maute fighter as “AJ.” He was reportedly only 12 years old when recruited in Butig by his cousins Omar and Abdullah. The Maute brothers led the attack and take over of sections of Marawi City last year which sparked five months of fighting with Philippine soldiers.

“He was trained with 12 other members and one of them already surrendered to the 49th IB on October 29,” Antipala said in a statement to the media.

In August, the military reported the surrender of an alias Asnar, 14, also an alleged Maute rebel. The military said Asnar was recruited by Abdullah Maute in 2014, when the boy was only 10 years old.

Military spokesman Edgar Allan Villanueva said, “Nine years old was the youngest recruit (of the Maute Group) and most of these recruits were involved in armed engagement with government forces in the month of February and November of 2016."
