15-year-old boy charged with murder of Florida grandmother who served in Operation Desert Storm
[NYPOST] A 15-year-old boy was charged with murder in the stray-bullet killing of a Florida grandmother who served in Operation Desert Storm, police said.

The teenager, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested Friday, four months after the tragic shooting death of former US Army Sgt. Angela Sutton Washington, the Orlando Police Department said in a statement.

The 61-year-old veteran was hit by a stray bullet on February 7 while shopping at the North Lane Plaza strip mall in Orlando, cops said.

"Through the relentless efforts of our Homicide Detectives along with cooperation from the community and Central Florida Crimeline a suspect has been captured," police said of the four-month-long investigation.

Video showed a group of teens and young men arguing at the mall, with one of them pulling out a gun and firing the shot that hit Washington, cops said.

Afghanistan
Over 550 Former Govt Officials Returned to Afghanistan, Says PM Kabir
[KhaamaPress] Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s Acting Prime Minister met with UNAMA Chief, Roza Otunbayeva in Kabul and said that more than 550 former government military and civilian officials have returned to Afghanistan.

Official sources have not confirmed the report and claim that hundreds of former government military personnel have been persecuted and killed by the Taliban group.

While meeting with the head of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA), PM Kabir said, since the return of the Taliban to power "islands of power, corruption, war and insecurity" have ended in Afghanistan.

This comes as at least 13 people including some key Taliban members were killed and more than 30 others were maimed in the latest terror attack in northeastern Badakhshan province on Friday.

During the meeting, Mawlavi Kabir asked the international community to remove the senior Taliban members’ names from the "black list", and said Taliban administration wants to maintain active diplomacy and good relation with the international community.

Mawlavi Kabir stated that international organizations and aid groups could resume their operation in Afghanistan — adding the international community could complete the unfinished projects in Afghanistan.

Considering the dire economic situation in Afghanistan multi-folded with drought and poverty, Afghan people are in urgent need of further international aid.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Don Calamari's lawyer was getting even redder in the face...
the Taliban regime’s reluctance to positively respond to the demands and concerns of the international community, especially in the areas of education and women’s right to work, has caused donors to drastically reduce the amount of aid to Afghanistan, which further isolates the war-torn country.

Africa Horn
Sudan requests AU, UN agencies not to deal with UN special envoy
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudanese military-led government has made an unprecedented request to Æthiopia, the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
, and UN agencies, asking them not to engage with UN Secretary-General Special Representative to Sudan Volker Perthes.

In a letter dated June 9, seen by Sudan Tribune, the Sudanese Embassy in Addis Ababa reiterated its decision to declare Volker Perthes persona non grata as of June 8, 2023.

The letter said, "The Government of the Republic of Sudan requests to cease dealing with Mr Volker Perthes in his capacity as Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS)."

The note was sent to the Æthiopian foreign ministry, the African Union Commission, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and all diplomatic and consular missions in Æthiopia, including UN specialized agencies.

Perhese is currently in the Æthiopian capital, where he consults with the African Union and IGAD over a roadmap to settle the Sudanese crisis and hold intra-Sudanese political talks.

UN Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric responded to the Sudanese government’s decision regarding the UNITAMS head, highlighting that the doctrine of persona non grata does not apply to UN personnel.

Dujarric referenced a statement issued by the UN Secretary-General on January 4, 2019, in response to Somalia’s declaration of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), Nicholas Haysom, as persona non grata.

The statement emphasized that the doctrine of persona non grata does not apply to United Nations personnel under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

"The United Nations is not a State, and its personnel are not accredited to the States where they are deployed, but work under the sole responsibility of the Secretary-General," the statement stressed, referring to Article 9 of the Vienna Convention.

Britain
British Universities Accused of Assisting Iran in Developing Suicide Drones
Or rather, harbouring unsupervised Iranian spies, and even paying them a salary while they did their foul work.
[Shafaq News] Five prestigious British universities, including Cambridge, Imperial College, Glasgow, Cranfield, and Northumbria, have been accused of aiding Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
in developing suicide drones, according to a report published by The Telegraph on Saturday.

The investigation by the Jewish Chronicle revealed that Iranian researchers at these universities shared their research with students from Iranian universities, some of which are under Western sanctions. They allegedly assisted Iranian institutions working on advanced technology for uncrewed aerial vehicles and combat aircraft, including the Shahed-136 drone engine Russia acquired from Iran.

The revelations have prompted calls for investigations into the universities' activities. Alicia Kearns, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs in the British Parliament, emphasized the need for an inquiry to determine whether these collaborations breach sanctions imposed on sensitive and dual-use technologies. She expressed concerns about potential implications for gender apartheid in Iran, its intervention in the Middle East, and civilian casualties in Ukraine.

David Lammy, the Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, also called for an urgent investigation into possible breaches of UK sanctions on military technology cooperation with Iran.

In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for the UK government stated that collaboration endangering national security would not be tolerated. The government has implemented measures to protect UK research through its Academic Technology Approval Program and rejects applications where concerns arise.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the gondola was dangling by a single thread of rope.

Jack! Cynthia cried. I just realized I'm afraid of heights! I don't even like high heels!...

the US Departments of State, Commerce, Justice, and Treasury issued a memorandum on Friday, alerting the international community and private sector about the threat posed by Iran's purchases, development, and deployment of drones. The memorandum urged caution and cooperation to prevent activities that could contribute to the dangerous and destabilizing Iranian drone program.

India-Pakistan
NIA Attaches Kashmiri Businessman Watali's Properties In Terror Funding Case
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday attached properties of businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali
...arrested with Yasin Malik on the business of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region...
in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's Kupwara district in connection with a terror funding case, officials said.

They said a team of the NIA attached the immovable properties in the name of Watali at villages Baghatpora and Kachwari in Handwara area of the north Kashmir district.

The properties include land in the name of Watali, an accused in the terror funding case, the officials said. They said the properties were attached following an order by the Special NIA Court in New Delhi in May.

Watali was arrested by the NIA in 2017 under various sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A trial court had in May last year framed charges against Watali and others in a case related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017. Watali was moved out of jail in February last year and placed under house arrest on medical grounds.
Let us hope his condition is very painful indeed, but of such a nature that he can fully appreciate the unravelling of the portfolio he built for the growth of JKLF funds.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli settlers again storm Al-Aqsa Mosque
Their own photo at the link shows a group of Jews slowly strolling across the Temple platform, clearly not storming anything despite Al Ahram histrionics. Still, there are some facts buried underneath the snowstorm of propaganda.
[AlAhram] Scores of Israeli settlers guarded by police stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, in what has become a routine occurrence, Paleostine News agency (WAFA) reported.

The Israeli settlers entered the compound through the Moroccan Gate (Al-Maghariba) in groups to pray.

The Islamic Waqf, the Jordan-run authority in charge of the holy site, has repeatedly described the settlers' presence in al-Aqsa Mosque as a provocation against Paleostinian worshippers, who feel unsafe.

Under a longstanding status quo, non-Moslems can visit the site at specific times but are not allowed to pray there.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
Israeli settlers and politicians routinely violate the arrangement under heavy police protection. On 4 June, Israeli settlers led by krazed killer Israeli rabbi and MP Yehuda Glick stormed the compound to pray. Before that, on 21 May, Israel's right-wing National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered the holy site.

These incidents reached a head in April when Israeli police assaulted the mosque, which had been occupied by Paleostinian worshippers, injuring at least 50 and arresting hundreds.

Paleostinians see these acts of settler violence as part of the Israeli governments efforts, under Benjamin Netanyahu's new nationalist-religious coalition, to "Judaize" Jerusalem and the Paleostinian territories beyond the confines of the al-Aqsa Mosque.

SETTLER VIOLENCE
On Sunday morning, Israeli settlers grazed their sheep on Paleostinian groves in Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron in the West Bank, causing significant destruction to crops, according to WAFA.

"Local Paleostinians were denied access into their own lands by the Israeli occupation army during the presence of the settlers," WAFA said.

Israeli settlers also attacked Paleostinian civilians in the neighborhoods of Wadi Hasin and Jaber in Hebron.

A WAFA correspondent said Israeli settlers, protected by the army, attacked residents of the two neighbourhoods with stones and dogs, injuring an unknown number of Paleostinians.

Ex-military chief says Israel ‘was asked’ to attack Islamic State in 2015
[IsraelTkmes] Eisenkot says jihadist group suffered hundreds of losses as a result of IDF strikes, in apparent reference to campaign in Egypt’s Sinai Desert

Former military chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot on Sunday revealed that the Israel Defense Forces was asked by a third party to carry out operational attacks against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group in 2015.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Institute for National Security Studies, Eisenkot — a current MK with the National Unity party — said that "Islamic State knows best how much the IDF operated in the Middle East: They paid a price of hundreds of killed and injured."

Eisenkot said that "during 2015, there was an event in a certain place where we were asked to carry out an attack." The IDF carried out "a relatively broad attack and harmed a great number of ISIS fighters," he said.

The former IDF chief did not elaborate on who made such a request and where the activity took place, although he said the IDF operated against the terror group "in many more than one country." He added that some of the IDF’s activity "went under the radar" at the time.

"There are not many countries in the world who know how to locate targets the size of a podium and get a missile on a target within a 1,000-kilometer radius around Israel," Eisenkot said. "Our enemies saw it, the Russians saw it, the Americans saw it."

"[Many parts of the] army were involved in this campaign: Military Intelligence, Air Force, special units, foreign relations," he added.

In 2018, it was reported that Israeli drones, fighter jets, and helicopter gunships carried out more than 100 Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against Islamic State-affiliated bully boyz over a two-year period in Egypt’s Sinai Desert, close to Israel’s border.
That’d be Wilayat Sina — the Islamic State province in Northern Sinai. Back when they were still affiliated with Al Qaeda, they called themselves Ansar Bayt al Maqdis/Al Qaeda in the Sinai. There were lots of other little jihadi groups holed up in the caves in those parts, including Muslim Brotherhooders on the lam from the authorities, but the names sprang up, mutated, and disappeared like mushrooms after a rainshower, so I gave up trying to keep track of them.
While security coordination between Jerusalem and Cairo is known to be close, the ties are unpopular in Egypt, despite nearly decades of official peace.
Given that even Al Ahram, which parrots the government line in all things, presents Israel as the evil oppressor of innocent Palestinians and Israeli Arabs, and downplays cooperation between the two countries, it’s no surprise that the populace never evolved past simplistic Jew-hate.
In order to keep the cooperation under wraps, the Israeli aircraft were often unmarked and sometimes used indirect routes in a bid to cover up the origin of the strikes, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported at the time.

In May 2022, Islamic State accused Israel of helping Egypt in assassinating a local jihadist group leader in northern Sinai.

Israeli and Egyptian officials have refused to confirm or comment on the reports.

#1  The first successful use of aerostats was introduced by the Israelis from posts facing that part of eastern Sinai reoccupied by Egypt. That border, though long and complex geologically, has not been the infiltration route into Israel's Negev that some predicted in the nineteen eighties. Given the Israeli success, the aerostat was then deployed out of Fort Huachuca, AZ, to monitor our border with Mexico.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran's Khamenei Sets One Condition For a Nuclear Deal With the West
[Shafaq News] Iran's supreme leader said on Sunday that reaching a deal with the West over Tehran's disputed nuclear work was possible if the country's nuclear infrastructure remained intact, state media quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
as saying.

"There is nothing wrong with the agreement (with the West), but the infrastructure of our nuclear industry should not be touched," he said, adding that Tehran should continue working with the U.N. nuclear watchdog under the framework of safeguards.

Indirect talks between Tehran and Washington to revive Iran's 2015 nuclear accord with six major powers have been at a stalemate since September, with both sides accusing each other of making unreasonable demands.

In 2019, Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. began breaching the deal's terms in response to a U.S. withdrawal in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
.

The 2015 agreement limited Iran’s uranium enrichment activity to make it harder for Tehran to develop nuclear arms, in return for lifting international sanctions. Iran denies wanting to acquire nuclear weapons.

Both Tehran and Washington on Thursday denied a report
No, no! Certainly not!
that they were nearing an interim deal under which Tehran would curb its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.

It has been so stated, yes. Several bombs, in fact, as soon as they hit the final refining (?) stage. That does assume that they are capable of assembling nuclear bombs that work as planned, which is a separate question for the project engineers.
