Afghanistan
US, Czech Soldiers Investigated for Death of Afghan Commando
[ToloNews] An investigation, involving the death of an Afghan commando, is being carried out after he was allegedly beaten to death while in Resolute Support custody in the west of Afghanistan.

Wahidullah Khan, an Afghan army commando, was enjugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
last month after allegedly opening fire on Czech troops in Shindand military airbase in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
. At least one Czech soldier was killed and two others maimed in the apparent insider attack.

In reference to the shooting, Afghan officials told New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

that the Afghan commando was beaten by foreign forces.

Col. Dave Butler, a front man for the American-led mission in Afghanistan, confirmed the investigation but declined to provide details, The Times reported.

The American military "will investigate to determine whether any potential misconduct occurred, and we will hold individuals accountable, as appropriate,’’ Colonel Butler said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
Herat provincial council has asked the Afghan government to thoroughly investigate the death of the Afghan commando.

"He was arrested alive, they tortured him which is against the law and he died under torture, we call on government to pursue the case seriously and the law must prevail," Kamran Alizayee, head of Herat provincial council said.

"If someone commits a crime, principally he should be brought to trial in a fair manner, if someone is killed under torture, then there is no difference between this act and the brutal acts we witness during the war," said Mohammad Rafiq, political analyst.

According to the New York Times, one American official said a team from the US Army’s 7th Special Forces Unit, which helped in the transfer of Khan to Czech soldiers, has been withdrawn from Afghanistan. It is not clear, however, if any American soldiers participated in the beating of Khan.

A picture of Khan after his death was given to The New York Times by his family. It shows extensive blunt force trauma to Khan’s face and head, according to James Gill, the chief medical examiner for the state of Connecticut, whom The Times asked to examine the photo.

"When we washed him, he had no bullet wounds but his entire body was bruised," Khan’s father Sayed Rahman told the New York Times.

Officials from the Afghan Special Forces unit at 207 Zafar Army Corps were not prepared to comment. But The Times reported that Afghan officials have confirmed that the soldier was killed after being tortured.

But the Czech Ministry of Defense rejected the allegations, The Times reported.

Khan joined the ranks of Afghan Special Forces thirteen months ago after ISIS attacked his village in Kot district of eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..

Haftar accuses Belgium of ‘funding terrorism’
[Libya Observer] The spokesperson of warlord Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, who controls the eastern part of the country, has accused Belgium of sending weapons to "terrorist groups" in western Libya via Misrata airport.

Ahmed al-Mismari claimed in his latest presser last week that Belgium used the interest and dividends of Libyan frozen assets to send weapons to "Al-Qaeda and Moslem Brüderbund."

Al-Mismari, a former folk poet, threatened to send his claim to the judiciary saying "this case has no statute of limitations." He also hinted at the measures that could be taken to "punish" Belgium including severing political and economic ties.

"We have all documents to prove this; the perpetrator has to be ready to stand trial," the mouthpiece said, accusing Chairman of UN-backed Presidential Council Fayez Sarraj of failure to deal with the file of Libyan frozen assets in Belgium properly.

Warlord Khalifa Haftar and his backers accuse political opponents of being affiliates to ISIS, al-Qaeda and Moslem Brüderbund.

Earlier, Belgian media reported that billions of Libyan frozen funds had disappeared from four Libyan accounts to fund militias in Libya.

UN concerned over falling imports at Yemen’s lifeline port

Europe
ISIS Groups Threaten 'Bloody Sunday' Attacks on France Fuel Protesters
[PJ] An onslaught of new graphic posters and online threats from ISIS supporters urges jihadists to target the large "Gilets jaunes" protests in France that broke out Nov. 17 over frustration with rising gas prices and taxes.

The "yellow vest" demonstrators against Macron government policies, largely rural French clad in roadside safety vests, have blocked roads and clashed with police. Two people have been killed and hundreds injured. More than 100,000 people were drawn to the protests across France this past Saturday.

One poster circulated among ISIS supporters online, showing a terrorist in front of the Eiffel Tower, urged jihadists to make "an appointment with an important event -- wait until Sunday." It included the "Just Terror" catchphrase that ISIS uses for lone jihad.

Another depicted a person wearing a black ball cap and sweatshirt looking out a window, with news photos of the "Gilets jaunes" protests above, and similarly warned of a Sunday attack: "Attendez -- Just Terror -- sera chez vous, Dimanche, en France." Yet another warned of a "bloody" Sunday.

And another image showed crosshairs superimposed on yellow-vested protesters on the Champs-Elysées: "O supporter of the caliphate in Europe and more particularly in France: Attack."

Turkey searches villa of 'close' Saudi prince associate: Reports
[AlAhram] One of the villas searched by Ottoman Turkish police for the remains of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi belonged to a Saudi businessman, reports said Tuesday.

Crime scene Sherlocks using sniffer dogs and drones searched the Saudi businessman's residence and an adjacent villa during a 10-hour probe on Monday in the northwestern province of Yalova, Hurriyet daily reported.

Officers inspected three wells in the villas' gardens, Hurriyet said, while DHA news agency reported there were claims the buildings were illegal.

The villa belongs to Mohammed Ahmed al-Fawzan after he bought the land on which it is built on in 2014, the news agency reported.

The second villa belonged to a business named Omary Tourism Gida, DHA agency reported.

Khashoggi, a contributor to The Washington Post, was strangled and dismembered by a team of 15 Saudi officials after he went into Riyadh's Istanbul consulate on October 2.

Khashoggi's body has not been found although police have searched the consulate, the consul general's residence and a forest in Istanbul.

There have been reports that Khashoggi's body was cut up and dissolved in acid.

Pro-government media has said acid traces had been found in the consulate's drains.

The Istanbul public prosecutor in charge of the investigation said on Monday that one of the Saudi suspects, Mansour Othman M. Abahussain, spoke to Fawzan on the phone a day before Khashoggi's killing.

Fawzan was not in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
at the time but the prosecutor believed the phone call was intended to find a way to remove or hide Khashoggi's body after its dismemberment.

Ottoman Turkish officials have not said Fawzan is in any way linked to the murder and have not released any information about what, if anything, was found at the two villas.

Riyadh admitted Khashoggi, 59, was killed in what it described as a rogue operation, denying claims the crown prince ordered his death.

Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

CII meets today to discuss triple talaq issue
They were gonna do it last week, but somebody hollered "Get out! Get out! Get out!" so they all hadda leave. Shariah, you know.
[DAWN] In an attempt to stamp out instant divorce, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is set to move towards declaring triple talaq in one go illegal, ineffective and even punishable.

The council has been working on the subject since January as many of its members, including chairman Dr Qibla Ayaz, want amendments to relevant laws.

The topic is on the agenda of a CII meeting to be held on Tuesday (today).

Dr Ayaz has expressed concern on several occasions over pronouncing triple talaq in one go.

"Many council members want to impose a penalty on those who pronounce triple talaq, while others are in favour of declaring it null and void as it is in Shia and Ahle Hadith schools of thought," said a CII researcher.

Talking to Dawn, CII members said it was their responsibility to make suggestions as per Sharia. The CII has discussed the Indian Supreme Court’s recent ruling against pronouncement of triple talaqat one time, and now it will examine a letter received from the All Indian Moslem Personal Law Board on the issue. The board is against the Supreme Court’s ruling, but acknowledged that the practice of pronouncing three talaq should be discouraged.

Iraq
Iraq denies reports on Trump requesting oil in return for Baghdad war
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ A big shot of the Iraqi Victory Alliance denied on Tuesday media reports that U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
had asked former prime minister Haider al-Abadi to get oil from Iraq to reimburse Washington for the costs of the war in the Arab nation.

Speaking to Baghdad Today news agency, Ali al-Snaid described such reports as baseless, stressing that Trump had not requested any oil from Iraq in return for toppling the regime of former president Saddam Hussein in 2003.

"Iraq is a sovereign state and it is not allowed for any country to impose its will on our decision," he added.

American news website Axios reported on Monday that Trump had discussed with Abadi in March last year the subject of taking oil from Iraq to reimburse the United States for the costs of the war there.

"It was a very run-of-the-mill, low-key, meeting in general," a source who was in the room described the talks between Trump and Abadi that were held at the White House in March.

According to the source, Trump complained that the U.S. had spent trillions in Iraq and lost thousands of lives but got "nothing" in return. He repeatedly said the U.S. should have seized Iraq’s oilfields as reimbursement for the steep costs of the war.

Hamas has asked that a national unity government be formed within 45 days, and that elections be held in no less than six months, the report said.

Paleostinian insider Munib al-Masri also told La Belle France24 News on Monday that Hamas and the PA are "very close" to a reconciliation.

Hamas releases statement thanking Iran for ‘paying for supporting Gaza return marches’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In a new demonstration of the rapprochement between Iran and Islamist political group Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,, the movement on Tuesday expressed its "thanks" to Tehran for sponsoring victims of the great march of return.

Iran has announced its "adoption" of the families of those killed and maimed in the "return marches" in Gazoo. Hamas front man Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement that the movement "values" and "highly appreciates" Iran's positions and support.

Barhoum, in a series of tweets on Tuesday, called on the Arab and Islamic countries to continue to stand by the Paleostinian people and support them in the face of all challenges.

The return marches, which culminate every Friday, first began on March30. Since then, more than 230 Paleostinians have been killed in Gazoo and about 12,000 have been maimed with varying degrees of serious injuries.

After 7 tries, suspected Gazan arsonist finally reaches goal of jail in Israel
[IsraelTimes] Man accused of burning greenhouse had crossed border multiple times in hopes of escaping Strip, but was always sent back, court filings show.

A Paleostinian man from the Gazoo Strip who sneaked into Israel and set fire to a greenhouse earlier this month was charged Monday with arson, illegal infiltration and providing false information.

According to the indictment, the suspect illegally crossed the border into Israel on seven separate occasions since 2012 with the ultimate goal of being incarcerated in Israel. On each of those occasions, he was placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
by Israeli security forces who returned him to Gazoo.

On the evening of November 9, the man crossed into Israel from northern Gazoo, and set fire to the greenhouse of Moshav Netiv Ha’asara. The fire burned the greenhouse as well as a nearby warehouse entirely, causing hundreds of thousands of shekels in damage.

The Israel Defense Forces initially believed that the greenhouse, in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council area, was set on fire by a flare fired by soldiers looking for the man who was spotted crossing the fence. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
following the interrogation, the suspect told the Shin Bet that it was he, himself, who had set it on fire.

The charge sheet said the man told interrogators that he was sent to carry out the arson attack by a Salafist group in Gazoo, in order to assist Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, in its war against Israel. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the Shin Bet determined that his claim was not true.

Israel regularly arrests Gazooks who cross the fence into Israel; most of them are looking to escape the impoverished Strip. In some cases, the Gazooks carry simple weapons in the apparent hope of drawing charges and being incarcerated in Israel, rather than being sent back to Gazoo, where they may face punishment by the Hamas terror group, which rules the enclave.

The greenhouse fire came during protests against Israel along the border ‐ in which some 12,000 Gazooks participated ‐ as tensions in the region ramped back up after a brief lull. Reports at the time said Paleostinian protesters also threw several bombs at IDF soldiers, and two men tried to breach the border before retreating.

Israel has accused Hamas and other terror groups of using the protests as a cover to carry out attacks on soldiers, or to breach Israeli communities near the border.

The incident drew wide consternation over the fact that the Gazook was able to apparently make it unimpeded to the greenhouse, near a populated area.

Iran ‘adopts’ families of Gazans killed and wounded in border clashes
[IsraelTimes] The Gazoo-ruling Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, on Tuesday thanked Iran for its financial "adoption" of the families of Paleostinians killed and maimed during festivities it has been encouraging along the border with Israeli troops.

Hamas front man Fawzi Barhoum said his group "values" and "highly appreciates" Iran’s support, the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya broadcaster reported.

Barhoum’s statement comes after an adviser to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told the Hamas-linked al-Risalah that the decision to "adopt" the families was taken during the Islamic Unity Conference being held in Tehran.

Raqqa was liberated in a US-backed campaign that ended more than a year ago, but rescuers and recovery teams continue to locate mass graves around the northern city.

More than a month after digging began in the Panorama mass grave, forensic teams continue to lift bodies believed to have been buried there during the four-month campaign to liberate Raqqa.

Estimates put the number of bodies buried there at around 1,500. Hammoud al-Shawakh, a local official involved in the work, says Tuesday that 516 bodies have been exhumed.

He said the EU's efforts were encouraging but added: "We have not yet seen any tangible results."

"So, they [Europeans] are promising us that they are doing their best to be able to translate all that they have said in political terms and to turn it into realization, in other words, to materialize what they have said," Salehi said.

"So, we wait and see. But I will pass certainly a word of caution to her (Mogherini) that I think the period of patience for our people is getting more limited and limited," he added.

"We are running out of the assumed timeline, which was in terms of months."

withdrew his country in May from the multilateral nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and decided to re-impose unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

Under the deal, reached between Iran and six major powers - the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, Germany, Russia and China - Tehran agreed to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions.

#1  I don't know which is funnier, the expectation of results from the EU or the patience of the Iranian grown thin.

Rogue regimes like Israel with illegal nukes present real danger to peace: Analyst
[PRESSTV] Rogue regimes like Israel with their illegal stockpiles of nuclear weapons present the real danger to global peace, according to independent political analyst Adam Garrie.

A senior Russian official has cautioned the United States against a plan to withdraw from a landmark Cold War-era nuclear arms control treaty with Russia, saying such a move would have grave consequence for the world.

announced last month that Washington would withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), which was signed toward the end of the Cold War in 1987 by then-President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

The treaty ‐ seen as a milestone in ending the Cold War arms race between the two superpowers ‐ banned ground-launch nuclear missiles with ranges from 500 kilometers to 5,500 kilometers and led to the elimination of nearly 2,700 short- and medium-range missiles.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told a news briefing on Monday that leaving the treaty would provoke "a new round of arms races."

Roads Blocked in Protest at Wahhab's Anti-Hariri Remarks
[An Nahar] Several roads were blocked Tuesday evening in the capital Beirut in protest at remarks voiced by ex-minister Wiam Wahhab against Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
The Traffic Management Center said protesters blocked the road between Qasqas and the airport, the Sports City road near Tariq al-Jedideh, the nearby Cola roundabout and the vital Corniche al-Mazraa highway.

The coastal highway between Beirut and the South had witnessed similar protests overnight.

Movement’s leadership meanwhile issued a statement urging "members and citizens in the capital and all regions to refrain from any negative reactions such as road blocking and tire burning."

Urging them to "abide by the law, cooperate with the competent authorities and not to heed calls that could harm stability," the leadership asked al-Mustaqbal’s regional departments to "address any violation on the ground in order to preserve the safety of citizens’ movement."
