Libyan official accuses Turkey of transferring foreign terrorists to Libya
[AlMasdar] A Libyan official told the Arabic language version of Russia’s Sputnik News Agency on Saturday that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
is transferring foreign holy warriors to Libya to fight the Benghazi-based Libyan National Army (LNA).

Speaking to Sputnik from Tobruk, Libyan parliamentarian ’Ali al-Sa’eedi al-Qaidi said that Turkey has been sending holy warriors to Libya for quite some time now, highlighting the fact that these snuffies only attack the Libyan National Army.

"The transfer of holy warriors is not new. This is a long story. Many holy warriors come from Turkey through Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and Misrata to fight the Libyan National Army in Tripoli and obstruct its advance into the center of the Libyan capital of Tripoli," al-Qaidi told Sputnik.

The Libyan member of the House of Representatives said that "these groups are now in the fighting the Libyan National Army under the protection of the civil state," stressing that "on Saturday, a Tunisian terrorist was arrested at the Wadi al-Rabea, south of the capital Tripoli."

In regards to Russia, l-Qaidi considered that "the Russian position on the crisis is clear and confirms the fight against terrorism in Libya."

In response to a question by Sputnik on the possibility of a ceasefire in Tripoli and the return to peace talks among the Libyan parties, al-Qaidi said, "the issue is sitting at the negotiating table; this is political and the army is fully aware there is no dialogue amid the presence of armed terrorist groups."

Tensions between Turkey and Libya has recently increased after the Libyan National Army forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Libya’s Mitiga airport resumes air traffic following a missile strike
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Air space re-opened at the Libyan capital’s only functioning airport, Mitiga, on Sunday after it was halted following a fall of missiles, according to a post on the Mitiga airport authority’s Facebook page.

The airport authority added that the carrier companies will begin receiving passengers to complete the rest of their re-scheduled flights for the day shortly.

Three Afriqiyah airlines employees were maimed and a plane was hit. No immediate comment was available from the carrier.

An airplane coming from Tunisia Carthage airport to Mitiga was redirected earlier on Sunday to Misrata international airport that serves the Mediterranean coastal city of Misrata in Libya instead, after Mitiga’s air space shut down, according to the authority’s Facebook page.

Mitiga is the only working airport in Tripoli

Malta to relocate 65 migrants after rescue ships defy Italy ban
Honestly, we’re looking at dumb and dumber here, not that vaunted European sophistication. What is the point of pronouncing the country closed to immigrant “rescue” ships, if at the first slight push they open wide again?
[AlAhram] Malta's prime minister said Sunday his country would relocate to other EU countries 65 migrants colonists stranded aboard the Alan Kurdi rescue ship, after two other boats defied efforts to stop them landing in neighbouring Italia.

Premier Joseph Muscat tweeted that "following discussions with the EU Commission and the German government", the 65 people would be transferred from the Alan Kurdi to a Maltese military "asset which will then enter a Maltese port".

"All rescued persons on board will be immediately relocated to other EU member states," he added.

The Alan Kurdi, which had been banned from entering Maltese waters after waiting off the island of Lampedusa in recent days, is the third rescue vessel in a week to make headlines.

Far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has attempted to block Italian ports to rescue ships, as tensions rise over the international response to the migration crisis.

Early on Sunday, dozens of shipwrecked migrants colonists disembarked in Italia after their rescue boat docked on Lampedusa.

Some 41 people were finally allowed to step off migrant rescue charity Mediterranea's Italian-flagged Alex, which arrived at the port on Saturday in an overnight operation that saw the ship temporarily seized by authorities.

The boat's captain Tommaso Stella is being investigated for allegedly aiding illegal immigration, according to the Italian news agency Agi.

'IRRESPONSIBILITY OF EUROPEAN COUNTRIES'
Authorities on Lampedusa in late June seized a rescue ship belonging to German aid group Sea-Watch, which had forced its way into port with dozens of rescued migrants colonists on board, and arrested its captain Carola Rackete.

An Italian judge subsequently ordered her freed, saying she had been acting to save lives, a decision which sparked Salvini's ire but may have encouraged the Alex crew.

Two other investigations, on charges of helping people smugglers and resisting the authorities are still under way after Rackete forced her way past Italian customs vessels.

"The irresponsibility of European countries obliged me to do what I did," Rackete said, in a message to the thousands of protesters who demonstrated in Germany on Saturday to support her.

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer wrote a letter to Salvini asking him to rethink his policy, sources close to the German government said.

"We cannot be responsible for boats with people rescued from shipwrecks on board spending weeks on the Mediterranean because they can't find a port," Seehofer wrote.

Also on Sunday, Maltese authorities said they had rescued another group of 50 migrants colonists in Malta's search and rescue zone on Sunday, after receiving a distress call saying their vessel was sinking.

They are expected to arrive in Malta on Sunday evening.
Deutsche Welle adds:
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said on Sunday evening that Germany would welcome up to 40 migrants — 15 to 20 from the Alan Kurdi and the rest from the second group — "in the spirit of European solidarity."

Malta bans Sea-Eye migrant rescue ship from its waters, 2nd diembarks passengers in Lampedusa
[DW] Malta officials have denied German-flagged rescue ship Alan Kurdi access to their territorial waters to prevent it from docking at their ports. The ship, operated by the Sea-Eye charity, has 65 migrants colonists on board.

Maltese armed forces were monitoring the German-flagged rescue ship Alan Kurdi on Sunday, as the vessel was sailing toward the island nation.

"They have no permit to enter Maltese territorial waters," an army front man told Germany's dpa news agency.

The ship, operated by German charity Sea-Eye, has 65 migrants colonists on board. They previously waited near the Italian island of Lampedusa. Two migrant rescue ships recently defied Italian authorities to dock without permission in Lampedusa, angering populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Sea-Eye said Italian police barred their entry, prompting them to set course for Malta.

"The Guardia di Finanza came by in person to deliver Salvini's decree: The port is closed," the NGO said.

After Dutch-flagged Sea-Watch 3 rammed a police boat to enter port in Lampedusa just over a week ago, and Italian-flagged Alex ported without permission on Saturday, Italy's Salvini pledged to raise fines for illegal docking from €50,000 ($56,157) to €1 million.

Migrants disembark in Italy after rescue boat defies ban

[AlAhram] Dozens of shipwrecked migrants colonists disembarked in Italia early Sunday after their rescue boat docked on the island of Lampedusa, the second vessel in a week to defy efforts to stop them by far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

It is the second vessel in just over a week to defy Salvini's attempts to block Italian ports to rescue ships, as tensions increase over the international response to the migration crisis.

A third boat that had also been waiting off Lampedusa, the German charity Sea-Eye's vessel Alan Kurdi carrying 65 migrants colonists, was sailing towards Malta on Sunday, even though it has not received permission to enter Maltese waters.

#1  I don't understand this. Don't the arriving ships need substantial help from the port itself to dock there? If Italy is not going to let these ships in, why are the port officials helping them dock (or do I already know the answer to that...?)

Erdogan fires central bank chief as policy rifts deepen
[DAWN] Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
sacked the governor of the central bank on Saturday as differences between them deepened over the timing of interest rate cuts to revive the recession-hit economy.

Governor Murat Cetinkaya, whose four-year term was due to run until 2020, will be replaced by his deputy Murat Uysal, a presidential decree published early on Saturday in the official gazette showed.

No official reason was given for the sacking, but government sources cited Erdogan’s frustration that the bank has kept its benchmark interest rate at 24 per cent since last September to support the ailing lira currency.

The Ottoman Turkish economy shrank sharply for the second straight quarter in early 2019 as a punishing currency crisis, persistent double-digit inflation and high interest rates took a toll on overall output.

Erdogan wants lower rates to kick-start the economy.

"President Erdogan was unhappy about the interest rate and he expressed his discontent at every chance. The bank’s decision in June to keep rates constant added to the problem with Cetinkaya," a senior government official told Rooters, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
"Erdogan remains determined to improve the economy, and for that he made the decision to remove Cetinkaya," the official added.

Ex-IAEA official to 'Post': Iran cutting nuclear breakout time by two months
[Jpost] Iran’s violation of nuclear limits by enriching uranium to the 5% level will reduce its breakout time to a nuclear weapon by approximately two months, former deputy director-general for safeguards at the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Olli Heinonen told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

After the Islamic republic’s threat in May that it would start reducing compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal if the world failed to drastically improve Tehran’s economic situation by July 7, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization front man Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Sunday that this meant breaking the 3.67% uranium enrichment limit.

What does all of this mean? How does Heinonen come up with the number of two months, and how much faster could Iran

Syria’s Assad replaces security chiefs — reports
[IsraelTimes] Pro-government Syrian pages on social media are reporting that Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
has replaced some heads of influential security agencies, including Maj. Gen. Jamil Hassan, who has headed the powerful Air Force Intelligence Directorate since 2009.

Several of the social media pages ‐ including Latakia Eagles and Homs Network Live ‐ report that Hassan was replaced by his deputy, Maj. Gen. Ghassan Ismail.

There was no immediate confirmation from the government or state media, which rarely report news related to intelligence agencies.

The pages say the General Intelligence Directorate is now headed by Maj. Gen. Hussam Louqa, while Maj. Gen. Nasser al-Ali is now in charge of the Political Security Directorate.

Bahjat Suleiman, a former intelligence chief and former ambassador to Jordan, also lists the names on his Facebook page and Twitter account.
Al Masdar News adds:
In addition to sacking al-Hassan, the Syrian President has also ordered the military intelligence forces to replace the Air Force Intelligence forces in rural Damascus. They will be tasked with removing the AFI checkpoints and relieving their forces in the West Ghouta and East Ghouta.

The source in Damascus added that this move likely comes at the request of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. Linda Sarsour: 'Jesus Was Palestinian Of Nazareth', but DNA data says not possible
[Jpost] Activist Linda Sarsour
...the very connected Palestinian-American activist who, after the Jewish founders were forced out, became the face of the anti-Trump Pussy March, forcing it into a BDS mold because resisting Trump, she said, is a form of jihad. This hijab-wearing friend of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, mentored by Brooklyn imam Siraj Wahhaj (unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) and the American Muslim Brotherhood system, has cousins in the higher reaches of Hamas. She was named a Champion of Change by President Obama in 2012...

Many including Yair Netanyahu were quick to bash Sarsour for her tweet.

#4  History is not my strong suit, but I think Jews and assorted heathens lived together in what the Romans ruled as "Palestine". Six or seven hundred years later, the area was invaded and the heathens instructed to 'convert or die'. Jews were tolerated as 'people of the book'. Those heathens that converted became Palestinian Arabs. That'd be two or three thousand years after the Jews came to the region.

#15  As I understand it, Jesus was born into the Herodian kingdom of Judea, a Roman client state since they’d been invited in to settle a Hasmonean (the Maccabee family) civil war in 63 BC. After Herod’s death, his kingdom, which extended into Syria, Lebanon, and east across the Jordan, was divided among his remaining unmurdered children, being Judea (including Samaria and Idumea), Galilee plus Perea (cis-Jordan), and some other bits. See map here. Eventually it all was directly ruled by Rome as Judea, incorporating the Galilee and some other bits. It was only after the third Jewish-Roman war, the Bar Kochba revolt (132-135 AD) that Emperor Hadrian renamed the province Syria Palaestina after the Philistines, to erase the Jewish connection. The invading Arab Muslims retained the designation, as did the League of Nations when they named the British Mandate there.

After the Minoan eruption, the Philistines founded the cities of Gaza, Ashdod, and Ashkelon along the Mediterranean coast, and the now lost cities of Ekron and Gath inland. They disappeared as a people after being conquered by Babylon, but as Bibi points out, genetic studies published just this year reveal they were originally from southern Europe.

So there is no way that Jesus was either a Philistine or any kind of Palestinian.

Mohammed was not a Jew, but an Arab pagan turned monotheist using garbled versions of Jewish and Christian bible stories to provide a respectable deep history for his brand new faith. He originally anticipated converting the local Jews to his new revelation, then turned vicious when they rejected him.

Modern Palestinians are a mixture of all sorts of peoples who immigrated to the area over the millennia, including latterly Arabs and sub-Saharan African slaves; Ammonites and Moabites would certainly be included. In the West Bank they are a mix of Syrians, Jordanians, and locals, while in Gaza they are mostly locals plus Egyptians, the “foreigners” having come to work for the Jews since the beginning of the 20th century, then got caught in the movement of borders over the years. To be legally considered a Palestinian, the person or ancestor had to have been on the land for at least three years before 1948.

When visited Israel in 2011, we went to a Christian art store in Bethlehem. They have no signs or advertising. They have an armored door. Yeah - they are tolerated - for the moment- probably because they bring in money from the tourists. It is beautiful, but they are under siege. Not from the Israeli army, though.
