Pakistan Won’t Support Taliban: Pakistani General
Taqqiya.
[ToloNews] A senior member of The Mighty Pak Army has said that his country will not support the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, reiterating that they only aim for enduring peace in Afghanistan.

"Afghanistan now is not what it was in 90s and the state infrastructure cannot be trounced easily, and Pakistain also has changed," the director general of Pakistain's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said as quoted by International The News.

"It’s impossible for the Taliban to recapture Kabul and that Pakistain would support them. It isn’t going to happen," he said over talks about foreign troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"Even Afghan leaders are admitting that Pakistain has done utmost for peace in Afghanistan," he said.

Gen. Iftikhar said that it is for the citizens and the government of Afghanistan to determine the future of their country, how the dialogue process would further, and who they back to take it on.

"We only aim for a long-lasting peace in Afghanistan," he said.

He added that the policy of the Pakistain government to extend a hand of peace to the neighbours was very clear, according to The News report.

Congo-Brazzaville Strongman Buys Secret Weapons Haul from Azerbaijan
[OCCRP] In January 2020, at the Turkish port of Derince on the eastern shores of the Sea of Marmara, a huge cache of weapons was loaded onto the MV Storm. Registered in the tax haven of Vanuatu, the ship set sail with an arsenal of mortar shells, multiple launch rockets, and explosives, en route from Azerbaijan to the Republic of the Congo, better known as Congo-Brazzaville.

In total, more than 100 tons of weaponry wound its way to a building that appears to be the headquarters of Congo-Brazzaville’s elite Republican Guard, according to a confidential cargo manifest obtained by OCCRP. The cargo, estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars, was just the latest in a series of at least 17 arms shipments sent by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense to the regime of President Denis Sassou-Nguesso since 2015, according to flight plans, cargo manifests, and weapons inventories obtained by OCCRP.

Saudi Arabia was listed as the “sponsoring party” on several of the cargo manifests reviewed by reporters. It’s unclear what that sponsorship entailed, but it could mean that Riyadh paid for the weapons or the cargo deliveries.
More at the link
Odd that the Saudis are sponsoring this — why do they care about the government of the Republic of the Congo? But it’s a busy place. In the eastern part of the country, we’re told, 122 gangs were active in North and South Kivu, Ituri and Tanganyika provinces last year.

Arabia
CIA Finds Saudi Crown Prince MbS
[ZERO] On Friday afternoon, over two years after the Oct.2018 brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has finally released its official report to the public on his killing, which is based mostly on the prior CIA investigation.

As was fully expected, it goes straight to the top: "We assess that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman approved an operation in Istanbul, Turkey to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi," the four-page, only very slightly redacted report reads.

"We assess that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman approved an operation in Istanbul, Turkey to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. We base this assessment on the Crown Prince's control of decision making in the Kingdom since 2017, the direct involvement of a key adviser and members of Muhammad bin Salman's protective detail in the operation, and the Crown Prince's support for using violent measures to silence dissidents abroad, including Khashoggi."

Further the US intelligence report points to the entirety of the security detail that carried out the assassination as closely associated with the Royal Court. But more notably at least seven were among MbS "elite" personal security detail, putting them in direct communication with the crown prince and de facto ruler of the kingdom.

The intel report details:

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The Grand Turk
Lawfare: Turkey's pro-Kurdish party MPs targeted in legal barrage
[AlAhram] Nine of the HDP deputies were accused in connection with protests triggered by an Islamic State led to the deaths of 37 people.

Turkey's parliament is set to consider legal bids to lift the immunity from prosecution of 21 pro-Kurdish MPs, applying more pressure on a political party targeted in a years-long crackdown and that now faces calls for its closure.

The government accuses the Peoples' Democratic Party
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
(HDP), parliament's third largest, of ties to Kurdish gunnies and stepped up its accusations after Ottoman Turkish captives were killed in Iraq earlier this month.

The HDP in response criticised President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party (AKP) for using a failed military rescue mission to target it politically and to sow ethnic division, and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
has expressed concern over the legal moves.

AKP Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop told news hounds on Thursday it was "saddening" for parliament to have to deal with so many dossiers with such charges, including "manslaughter", "spreading terrorist propaganda" and "provoking hatred".

State-owned Anadolu news agency said 20 HDP deputies and one from an affiliated party were among 25 targeted by the cases. The HDP, which has 56 members in the 660-seat assembly, denies links with Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Death Eaters.

The legal bids will first be handled by a parliamentary commission which will decide whether to put them to a vote in the general assembly. The timing of the process was unclear.

Nine of the HDP deputies were accused in connection with protests triggered by an Islamic State

Death Eater attack on the Syrian town of Kobani in 2014. The subsequent protests in Turkey led to the deaths of 37 people.

Ankara said this month in Iraq's Gara region the PKK executed 13 prisoners, including Ottoman Turkish military and police personnel, during an army operation meant to rescue them. The PKK said the captives died during festivities.

HDP co-leader Pervin Buldan, one of those accused over the Kobani protests, said this week the government had sought to make political capital out of the Gara operation.

"They began to attack the HDP from all directions. Each day the 'shut down the HDP' chorus continues to cause uproar, show enmity towards Kurds and spread the hatred climate," she said.

Erdogan's nationalist allies have repeatedly called for the HDP's closure over links to the PKK, which Turkey, the EU and United States designate a terrorist group. The PKK has waged an insurgency in the mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey since 1984 and more than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

The crackdown on the HDP in recent years has included the arrests of thousands of party officials and members, while dozens of its elected mayors and politicians have been ousted.

EU foreign affairs front man Peter Stano said earlier this week the EU was "gravely concerned" about continuing pressure on the HDP, including "what seem to be politically motivated judicial proceedings".

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
A soccer field-sized dig, stories deep: Israel expands Dimona nuclear facility
[IsraelTimes] Reactor appears to be getting most extensive new construction work in decades, satellite photos show; reason unclear.

A secretive Israeli nuclear facility, supposedly at the center of the nation’s undeclared atomic weapons program, is undergoing what appears to be its biggest construction project in decades, satellite photos analyzed by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named show.

A dig about the size of a soccer field and likely several stories deep now sits just meters from the aging reactor at the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center near the city of Dimona. The facility is already home to decades-old underground laboratories that, according to foreign reports, reprocess the reactor’s spent rods to obtain weapons-grade plutonium for Israel’s nuclear bomb program.

What the construction is for, however, remains unclear. The Israeli government did not respond to detailed questions from the AP about the work. Under its policy of nuclear ambiguity, Israel neither confirms nor denies having atomic weapons. It is among just four countries that have never joined the Non-Proliferation Treaty, a landmark international accord meant to stop the spread of nuclear arms.

ISIS Women Go on Hunger Strike Demanding To Be Let Back into France
[Breitbart] A group of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-affiliated women have gone on a hunger strike in a prison camp in Syria after demanding the French government let them back into La Belle France.
Starve, Bitches
The gunnies began their hunger strike on Sunday according to an announcement by their lawyers Marie Dosé and Ludovic Rivière, who stated that the women wanted themselves and their children to be allowed to return to La Belle France, after having deserted it for the Islamic State.

"After years of waiting and no prospect of judgment on the spot, they feel they have no choice but to refuse to eat," the lawyers said, Ouest La Belle France reports. The report notes there are around a dozen women involved in the protest.

"In audio messages to their relatives, these women explained that they could no longer bear to watch their children suffer, wanted to ’take responsibility’ and be tried in La Belle France for what they did," the lawyers said.

The women are among around 80 females who left Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
to join the Islamic State terror group in the Middle East and currently reside in prison camps run by Kurdish forces in Syria, along with around 300 children.

While La Belle France repatriated ten Islamic State children from camps last year in June and another seven children this year in January for a total of 35 children so far, the country has been far more reluctant to repatriate adults.

In October of last year, the mother of one female Islamic State member living in the al-Hol camp demanded the French government send her daughter cash or allow the family to send the woman cash.

"While the state is currently choosing not to organise the repatriation of its nationals, it is responsible for providing material and financial assistance to the latter or at the very least to allow their families to do so," the mother’s lawyers said.

Other European countries, such as Sweden, have also been hesitant to allow jihadists to return.

In January of last year, Somalian President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed made an offer to Sweden to take in some of the Islamic State members as around half of the Swedish women in the al-Hol camp are from a Somalian background.

Perhaps the highest-profile single ISIS bride is Sahmima Begum,
...in our archives as Shamima Begum...
who left the United Kingdom as a teenager to get married in the Islamic State. The woman was later rediscovered living in a refugee camp by British television crews, and her unvarnished interviews about life in the Islamic State shocked Britannia.

Opposition to her returning to the UK grew after she casually described seeing her first severed head, explaining the decapitation victim deserved it because they were an enemy of Islam. She was stripped of her British paper citizenship in 2019 but has fought to overturn the decision.

Terror Networks
Iraq saw gains with its counterterrorism strategy in January: NCS report
A colourful map of the region can be seen at the link.
[AlAhram] Many countries in the region are intensifying their counterterrorism efforts, the report noted

A recent report by Egypt’s National Centre for Studies on the state of terrorism in the larger Middle East during the month of January reported a high rate of terror attacks in Syria.

"Syria saw 28 terror attacks during the month of January," the report noted.

The first monthly ’State of Terror Report,’ which was published by the NCS earlier this month, noted that both Afghanistan and Somalia came in second in the number of attacks, with each suffering 24 attacks during the past month.

The security situation in both countries, the report noted, is unstable given the continued lack of political stability — with Somalia possibly set to face a new rough phase — and given the withdrawal of US troops from both countries.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
the report noted that continued intelligence cooperation between the US and both Somalia and Afghanistan would still be consequential in the battle against the al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
in Somalia and the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
in Afghanistan.

The report counted a total of 110 terror attacks in the larger Middle East, 88 of which were in countries with political instability.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
the report noted that despite the security deficiency from which they suffer, neither South Sudan and nor Libya recorded terror attacks during the month of January.

Algeria, however, came back with a single terror attack that was followed by security operation that led to the killing of all suspected terrorists.

Many countries in the region are intensifying their counterterrorism efforts, the report noted. Egypt, for one, is still hard at work to quell terror cells in Sinai.

The biggest success story of January, the report noted, came in Iraq with the elimination of Gabbar Al Issawi,
..in our archives as Abu Yasar al-Issawi, born Jabbar al-Issawi in Fallujah, killed in Kirkuk...
the leading Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) figure who was killed by Iraqi law enforcement on 28 January, one week after Baghdad was hit with deadly twin suicide kabooms.

Suicide attacks, kidnappings and murders were all reported during the month of January in the NSC report, which was titled ’The fall of Gabbar’. The report added that in several cases, terror groups used drones to carry out their terror attacks.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
the report noted that leading terror groups in the region, especially IS and al-Qaeda, are moving to consolidate ranks with an aggressive online media campaign.
