380ACP better if you want a little round, with an LCP cheap and plentiful, plus its adequate as a very compact backup or deep conceal gun.

Turns out all of humanity is related to a single couple
[NYPOST] It really is all relative.

A new study revealed that all humans are descendants of the same man and woman who lived 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.

Our communal mom and dad got together after a “catastrophic event” almost wiped out the human race, the Daily Mail reported of the study.

The researchers studied the DNA of five million animals, including humans, to come to their conclusions. They also found that every nine out of 10 animals come from the same original creatures.

The research showed that humans have very low genetic diversity and variants within the species, similar to many other animals.

The report comes out of Rockefeller University and the University of Basel, Switzerland, published in the journal “Human Evolution.”

Malawi sangoma Madson Benson retires from medicine the hard way
[Breitbart] An angry mob killed a man in Munaje, Malawi, this week after he was implicated in the death of another individual by practicing "witchcraft," local media reported.

Police accused the 55-year-old man, identified as Mandson Benson, of being responsible for the death of another man, identified as Chifundo Mwenye, this month. A group of Mwenye’s relatives reportedly ganged up on Benson before beating him to death.

"The deceased was indeed assaulted to death by an angry mob led by some relatives of the person who was said to have been killed by the deceased using witchcraft and was pronounced dead at Mulanje District Hospital," said a local police spokesperson.
Police have since arrested seven suspects in connection with the case, all on charges of murder. They are currently awaiting their court appearance. Meanwhile, local authorities have urged the public not to try and take the law into their own hands.

Belief in witchcraft is common in Malawi and across other African nations including Tanzania, where many negative or unfortunate events from bad weather to the spread of disease are blamed on mystical forces. Last year, rumors of blood-sucking vampire activity in a small town in Mozambique triggered riots and vandalism on local property.

US says receives credible terrorist threat against facilities in Congo
[Ynet] The US embassy in Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
said on Saturday it had received "credible and specific information of a possible terrorist threat against US government facilities" in the capital, Kinshasa.

The e-mailed security alert sent to US citizens added that the Kinshasa embassy would be closed to the public on Monday, Nov. 26.

The statement did not elaborate on the nature of the threat, and the embassy declined to comment further. None of the State Department's designated foreign terrorist organizations are known to have major operations in Congo.

The country's political situation, however, is tense. Campaigning got underway on Thursday for a Dec. 23 presidential election that is meant to select incumbent Joseph Kabila's successor.

Repeated delays to the election over the past two years sparked street protests in which security forces killed dozens of demonstrators and worsened militia violence across the country

Zimbabwe: White Ex-Farmers Unimpressed With $53 Million Compensation - Say Owed $9 Billion
[All Africa] A top farming official says the government's budget allocation of $53 million to compensate white farmers won't be enough to solve the outstanding problem of compensation.

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube announced the fund in his 2019 budget proposals which were put before Parliament this Thursday.

Government has long since resolved to compensate the farmer and the budgetary provision, according to Prof Ncube showed the administration's "commitment to this obligation".

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Commercial Farmers Union (CFU) Director Ben Purcell-Gilpin said the $53 million cannot solve the compensation issue.

But he said it showed the government hasn't forgotten about the need to repay those who lost their farms over the past 18 years, adding that some of the farmers are in desperate financial straits.

Purcell-Gilpin said it was also possible that most of the $53 million allocated under Thursday's budget would go to compensate foreign landowners, who were protected by BIPPA trade agreements - though there's no confirmation of that.

Around 40 Dutch farmers under such agreements have been trying for years to get around $25 million from the government.

Around 4,000 white farmers lost land in the government's reform programme launched 18 years ago and are said to be owed up to $9 billion.

The government does not appear to acquire with that figure however.

"Work on the extent of the government's obligation is still to be finalised," said Prof Ncube in his budget statement.

He added; "The resources required to compensate and put closure to this important issue is obviously beyond the capacity of the budget to finance.

"In this regard, government is engaging international financial institutions and other stakeholders in exploring various sustainable options for mobilising the requisite compensation resources."

Experts Worried Nigeria May Overtake India As Number One in Open Defecation
[All Africa] "We go to the stream, we don't have water here, even toilets; we usually use the bush. A woman was bitten by a snake while defecating in the bush and another one was bitten when she went to pick firewood for cooking," Hannatu Peter, an internally displaced person at the New Gongola IDP camp in the Federal Capital Territory, said.

"We want the government to help us, especially on these toilet and water issues. Some women urinate anywhere and get infected; the majority of us are having infections and treating infections in hospitals is quite expensive."

Strange as the testimony may sound, this is a typical scenario in several communities, particularly in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across Nigeria, as poor living conditions and the dearth of sanitation facilities are peculiar features of such neighbourhoods.

A major outcome of the lack of sanitation facilities is open defection which, according to experts, usually provokes the outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery in such communities, particularly among the children.

According to Nigeria Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Poverty Diagnostics Report, the country's sanitation sector is in a critical condition.

The report shows that the economic growth of Nigeria, which has an estimated population of over 183 million, has not translated into rapid poverty reduction.

Zimbabwe's Mugabe no longer able to walk, president says
[AP via News World News] Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe is no longer able to walk as his health declines, his successor has said.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa told ruling party supporters at a rally on Saturday that the 94-year-old has been in hospital in Singapore for the past two months.

"He can no longer walk but we will continue to take care of him," said Mr Mnangagwa, who took over from his former mentor a year ago after Mr Mugabe stepped down under military pressure.

Mr Mnangagwa said Mr Mugabe was supposed to return to Zimbabwe on October 15 but was not feeling well. He did not give further details about Mr Mugabe’s condition.

The former president is now expected to return to Zimbabwe on November 30. Mr Mugabe was the world’s oldest head of state before his dramatic exit.

‘No Crossings': POTUS Pushes Mexico To Stop Caravans Before The Start
[Daily Caller] President Donald Trump is ratcheting up calls for Mexico to prevent future caravans from entering the southern border through Honduras and other Central American countries.

"Would be very SMART if Mexico would stop the Caravans long before they get to our Southern Border, or if originating countries would not let them form (it is a way they get certain people out of their country and dump in U.S. No longer)," Trump tweeted Sunday. "Dems created this problem. No crossings!"

Trump did not explain why he thinks Democrats are responsible for the caravan. But conservatives often blame the influx of refugees on so-called "catch and release," a nearly decade-old policy releasing asylum seekers who enter the country illegally while their cases are pending.

Former President Barack Obama often used the policy with illegal immigrants who claimed to be in peril if they were not allowed into the U.S.

U.S. Reaches Deal With Mexico To Have Asylum Applicants Wait Across The Border
[Hot Air] I’m shocked, and for once it’s the good kind of shocked. Read yesterday’s post for background if you haven’t already. How on earth did the White House convince Mexico’s new populist left-wing president to go for this?

The status quo: An asylum-seeker surrenders to U.S. authorities, they apply for asylum, and they’re either detained while they wait or, given the paucity of detention facilities, they’re released into the United States with orders to show up for their asylum hearing. Some will, some won’t. The new process: An asylum-seeker surrenders to U.S. authorities, they go to the federal courthouse for an initial asylum hearing, and if the judge doesn’t rule then and there then they go back over the border to Mexico to wait for a determination. No more catch and release.

#11  From peanut gallery’s BBC article:

Amid growing desperation on Sunday, the group of about 500 migrants - who had been taking part in a peaceful protest for the right to seek political asylum in the US - made a run for the border.

Mexico's Home Secretary, Alfonso Navarrete, said the group had asked for help to organise the demonstration, but had reportedly been encouraged by some of the movement's leaders to split into different groups and try to cross into the US.

According to news agency AFP, a number managed to climb over the first fence. It was as they tried to cross a second, spike-topped wall that officials on the US side began throwing tear gas.

An AFP journalist saw the migrants - including mothers and children - trying to protect themselves from the gas, with some crying out that they only wanted to find a work and a better life in the US.

I am all admiration at mothers able to climb over such barriers with small children, but now they will not pass Go, nor collect the $200. There is a lesson in this about assumptions and counting chickens, one suspects.

Ukrainian Navy: Russia's coast guard opens fire on Ukrainian boats in the Azov Sea (DEVELOPING)
[Kyiv Post - via Weasel Zippers] The Ukrainian Navy has reported that Russian coast guard boats opened fire on three Ukrainian boats in the Azov Sea on the evening of Nov. 25. Ukraine's small armored artillery boats Berdyansk and Nikopol sustained damage and were immobilized. Tugboat Yani Kapu, which had been rammed by a Russian coast guard boat earlier today, was also forced to stop.

All three vessels have been seized by Russian special ops unit, the Ukrainian Navy press service reports.

Two Ukrainian naval officers have reportedly been wounded.

President Petro Poroshenko has convened a military cabinet for an emergency meeting, his spokesman Svyatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Twitter.

Campaigners challenge U.N. over forced labour in Uzbekistan's cotton industry
LONDON, Nov 23 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Rights groups on Friday disputed findings by the United Nations showing Uzbekistan has nearly eliminated forced labour from its cotton industry, saying that exploitation is still "systematic".

The annual cotton harvest in Uzbekistan is the world's largest recruitment operation, with about 2.6 million people temporarily picking cotton every year, according to the U.N. International Labour Organization (ILO).

Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov said last year that the Central Asian nation would no longer have thousands of students, teachers and healthcare workers picking the harvest - halting a practice widely condemned as forced labour.

On Thursday the ILO said 93 percent of people involved in the country's 2018 cotton harvest had worked voluntarily, and the systematic recruitment of students, teachers, doctors and nurses had ended.

Yet the Uzbek-German Forum for Human Rights said its own research since September found that public sector workers were still being forced to pick cotton by the state in Uzbekistan - one of the world's leading cotton exporters.

"Our evidence shows forced labour this year was still systematic and massive," Umida Niyazova, director at the forum, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a telephone interview.

The rights group monitored this year's cotton harvest in seven regions and interviewed at least 300 people who were forced to work or pay for workers to take their place, she said.

Neither the Uzbek labour ministry nor the embassy in London could be reached for comment.
