Air Force helicopter made emergency landing after being hit by bullet over Virginia
[MSN] An Air Force helicopter on Monday was damaged and forced into an emergency landing in Virginia, resulting in injuries to an aircrew member and prompting an FBI investigation.

"Initial findings are that the helicopter was struck by a bullet resulting in a minor injury to an aircrew member and damage to the aircraft," an Air Force spokesperson said in a statement to POLITICO. "The aircraft safely landed and the incident is currently under investigation."

The news of the incident was first reported by McClatchy.

The affected aircraft was a UH-1N Huey helicopter flying at about 1,000 feet outside of Middleburg, Va., during a routine training mission, the Air Force said. The helicopter, assigned to the 1st Helicopter Squadron stationed at Joint Base Andrews, landed at 12:43 p.m. in nearby Manassas, Va.

The Air Force spokesperson said the branch’s Office of Special Investigations is assisting the FBI in a probe of the incident.

In recent years, more active-duty U.S. military deaths have come from training incidents than active combat operations, prompting lawmakers to take note of the trend.
I certainly feel more secure knowing the FBI is on the case. Ooh! Ooh! Is dat Ephraim Zimbalist, Jr. over there?

Trump Taps Anti-Fauci Stanford Doc for COVID Team
The worst of the emoting snipped, as that is not useful information.
[RedState] At his presser yesterday, the President announced that Dr. Scott Atlas is joining his team of COVID-19 advisors.

He’s the former chief of neuroradiology at Stanford University Medical Center and now a senior fellow at Stanford’s ultra-prestigious Hoover Institution (where conservative luminaries Thomas Sowell and Victor Davis Hanson also reside).

But apart from his impeccable credentials, Dr. Atlas is one of the thousands of medical experts the Democrats and their media enablers don’t want you to know about who’ve been trying to put the breaks on the suicidal, anti-science response to COVID-19 they’ve conned us into following.

Way back on April 22, Dr. Atlas penned an op-ed in The Hill whose title couldn’t have been clearer:

The data is in — stop the panic and end the total isolation.

He explained five facts about COVID-19 that were already apparent from the data we had a month after lockdowns started.

Fact 1: The overwhelming majority of people do not have any significant risk of dying from COVID-19.
Fact 2: Protecting older, at-risk people eliminates hospital overcrowding.
Fact 3: Vital herd immunity is actually PREVENTED by total isolation policies, prolonging the problem.
Fact 4: People are dying from being denied other medical care due to hypothetical COVID-19 fatality projections that turned out to be garbage.
Fact 5: We have a clearly defined population at risk who can be protected with targeted measures.

If you’ve got 50 minutes to check out an in-depth interview, you can watch Dr. Atlas discuss the catastrophic medical consequences of lockdowns as well as correct some grave misconceptions that Fauci and his media enablers have encouraged about social distancing in an interview he did for his Hoover Institution colleague Peter Robinson’s Uncommon Knowledge series. (A great resource for conservatives in general, by the way.)

There’s also a shorter segment with Laura Ingraham.

Ecuador Navy Surveils Huge Chinese Fishing Fleet Near Galapagos
Take a look at the picture of the rusty tub the Chicoms call a fishing boat in the article.
[gCaptain] Ecuador’s navy is conducting surveillance of a massive Chinese fishing fleet that is operating near the protected waters of the Galapagos Islands, amid concerns about the environmental impact of fishing in the area of the ecologically sensitive islands.

The navy conducted a patrol mission on Friday that included a flyover of the region where the hulking vessels are fishing, as well as reconnaissance by military patrol ships. A total of 340 vessels are currently in the area, the navy said, compared with some 260 reported last month.

Images taken as part of the flyover, which included journalists, showed that at least one of the vessels appeared to be aging and in need of maintenance.

Ecuador’s Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Darwin Jarrin, said the navy has approached Colombia and Peru to share information and seek a regional response to the vessels, most of which can hold up to 1,000 tonnes of catch.

The fleet generally spends several weeks fishing off the coast of Peru before approaching the Galapagos.

The fishing fleet has since 2017 been arriving in the summer months and fishing just outside the Galapagos territorial waters, drawn by marine species such as the endangered hammerhead shark.

Such fishing is not illegal because it takes place in international waters. But environmental activists say it allows fleets to take advantage of the abundant marine species that spill over from the Galapagos and cross into the unprotected waters.

“This is not something that will change overnight,” said Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Luis Gallegos in a television interview on Sunday. “It is necessary to … generate bilateral agreements with other countries with regards to illegal fishing, to monitor every ship that’s in the South Pacific.”

A Chinese vessel in 2017 was captured in the Galapagos Marine Reserve carrying 300 tons of marine wildlife.

China has promised a “zero tolerance” approach to illegal fishing and has proposed a moratorium on fishing in the area between September and November. The fishing fleets usually leave the area before that period.

The Galapagos Islands, which lie some 1,000 km (620 miles) from Ecuador’s coast, are home to many unique species, including giant tortoises, and served as inspiration for 19th century British scientist Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.

In an interview with CNBC, Gottlieb said in addition to the limited number of patients involved in trials, it appears to be similar to a vaccine being developed by Chinese biotech CanSino which is currently in clinical trials in Canada.

“Early data on that vaccine is not very encouraging,” he said. “A lot of people had antibodies to the viral vector itself, so they effectively neutralized the viral vector, because it was based on a common cold.” It’s not clear if the Russian trial will also find patients have prior immunity, he said.

Also vaccine tested on less than 100 people. Data not made public.

First seeds, now masks? Unsolicited masks from China landing in mailboxes, police say
Want to solve this? Raise the shipping rates to be comparable to what it would cost me to send the same thing to China.
[MiamiHerald] Last month, unsolicited seeds from China began showing up in mailboxes across the country, prompting warnings from law enforcement. Now, people say they’re receiving new mystery packages from China — and they contain face masks.

When Angela Osborne in Texas recently checked her mail, she found something surprising, according to KHOU.

"I noticed this odd package with Chinese writing, and noticed the sender, and said I didn’t order anything from China," she told the outlet.

When Osborne brought the package inside, she opened it up to find a single face mask, an experience she described as "creepy," KHOU reported.

"There’s no note. Nothing," Osborne told the outlet. "I got ... a faded tracking address and some tracking numbers."

It was a similar story for Florida resident Shan Sharp, who also found an unexpected package in her mailbox, WFLA reported.

"I looked at the label and it had Shanghai, China, from a certain district," she told the outlet. "All of this information, including my cell phone number, (was) on there."
Do you happen to have a TikTok account, by chance?
When she opened it up, there was no note, only two packages of face masks, according to WFLA. She quickly threw the masks away, adding, "I didn’t want to keep it in my house."

Several community members in Tazewell County, Virginia, have reported receiving unsolicited masks, leading the sheriff’s office to issue a warning: toss them.

"Our recommendation is if you didn’t order it, throw it away," the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Monday. "Just like with the seeds that have been sent it is not recommended using the mask sent to you, throw the mask away."
Yep. Throw it away and the problem will magically disappear.
Officials with the Federal Trade Commission believe these masks — as well as unsolicited seed packets — are part of what they call a "brushing scam," WTKR reported.

A brush scam is when foreign sellers get a hold of your name and address online and send you merchandise you didn’t order in an effort to boost their reviews, according to the Better Business Bureau.
Let's hope it stops there.
Packages involved in brush scams may not have return labels or could look like they came from Amazon or other retailers. Sending unsolicited merchandise allows sellers to post fake, positive reviews under your name, which results in increased sales, the bureau said.

If you receive a package you believe to be part of a brushing scam, the bureau recommends changing your account passwords and notifying the seller.
Assuming the brusher is dumb enough to put their name on the package, sure thing.

Massive study finds 50% increase in autism among children whose mothers used marijuana while pregnant
[DISRN] A recent analysis of more than 500,000 Canadian mothers and their children revealed a 50% increase in the risk of autism in kids whose mothers had used marijuana while pregnant, according to a report published Monday in Nature Medicine.

Daniel Corsi, the study's lead author and adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa, and his colleagues parsed data from all Ontario births occurring from 2007 to 2012.

The 503,065 children analyzed — 3,148 of whom had mothers that had used cannabis while pregnant — were followed for an average of seven years. Exactly 7,125 were diagnosed with varying levels of autism.

Researchers found that the rate of autism diagnoses among children with in utero cannabis exposure was 2.2%. Of those whose mothers did not use the drug during pregnancy, only 1.4% were diagnosed with autism.

#6  I read an article in the 90s that suggested that Silicon valley was drawing in folks with Aspergers who tend to be good programers because the focus the syndrom provided. Two parents with Aspergers are more likely to produce a child with Autism. That was their excuse for why so many autistic kids were found in the area.

Stanford also has/had a world class autism program so that probably draws parents with autistic kids to the area.

Haven't heard anything about it since the 90s so maybe the thing was debunked or just politically incorrect, anyway I thought it interesting.

[NYPOST] It’s a Hollywood blockbuster premise rooted in our not-so-distant future. For decades, robot thrillers such as "The Terminator," "Blade Runner" and "Westworld" have warned viewers that our reliance on artificial intelligence is a real threat to civilization. Now, real-life researchers with the Human Rights Watch are sounding the alarm on potentially world-ending "killer robots," according to a new report.

The message comes as part of their Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, which calls for a global ban on "fully autonomous weapons."

In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator: Hasta la vista, baby.

"Removing human control from the use of force is now widely regarded as a grave threat to humanity that, like climate change, deserves urgent multilateral action," said Mary Wareham, advocacy director of the arms division at Human Rights Watch, in a blurb on HRW.org, whose campaign is pushing for "an international ban treaty" on AI-operated weapons.
