A man and a woman allegedly shot Shawn Spencer, 41, in his leg during an argument at a 7-11 convenience store on 8th Avenue and 37th Street, just before 11:30 p.m., the NYPD said.

[NYPOST] A 44-year-old Manhattan man was charged Sunday with biting and choking a good Samaritan who tried to stop him from harassing a straphanger on the subway.
Billy Torres was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing for the disturbing attack on an uptown D train at Columbus Circle around 5 p.m. Saturday.
The weapon charge was for a box cutter he allegedly used to threaten someone during the underground chaos, according to police.
The 20-year-old good Samaritan who intervened was treated at a hospital for his injuries, police said.
Manhattan Criminal Court Justice James Burke released Torres on his own recognizance on Sunday — despite prosecutors’ request he be released under supervision for the attack, which came just a day after four people were slashed and one was punched at three Manhattan stations in a 12-minute span.
Approached by The Post after his release, Torres claimed he was "defending myself."
"They tried to rob me. They were trying to take my jewelry, my headphones," he said. "I was minding my own business."
Torres’ rap sheet includes a 2010 bust for allegedly assaulting a neighbor who ended up getting an order of protection against him, police sources told The Post.
The then-45-year-old neighbor had told police that he complained about a condom being left on the floor — prompting Torres to allegedly attack him, leaving a welt on his head, the sources said.
Torres’ current address is listed at Kenmore Hall on East 23rd Street in Gramercy, a former hotel that now provides permanent housing for low-income people out of city shelters or with special needs.

[NYPOST] An Arizona mom was charged with the murders of her two kids after she told authorities that she was "hearing voices" that told her to kill them, police said.
Yui Inoue, 40, was arrested on first-degree murder charges in Tempe in the deaths of her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son on Saturday, Arizona Central reported.
Inoue allegedly drove to the cop shoppe just before 7 a.m. Saturday and told an officer she was "hearing voices telling her to kill her kids," Tempe police front man Sgt. Steven Carbajal said.
"There was an officer that was heading out of the station just to take care of his normal patrol duties for the day and she seemed pretty frantic and flagged him down," Carbajal said Saturday at a presser.
Officers then responded to the woman’s apartment, where the girl and boy were found dead with "obvious signs of trauma."
"It’s just so unfortunate that a 9- and 7 year old that rely on their parents, especially their mother, to really care after them could have been involved in something this tragic," Carbajal said.
He said that officers had been to the same apartment earlier Saturday due to a domestic dispute involving a husband and wife.
But he said the children were safe in bed at the time, and there was no apparent reason to contact child welfare authorities.
"It didn’t seem like there was an immediate threat to the children," he said. "Parents, couples, argue and they have disagreements, and they have issues that come up" that often don’t require that type of intervention."
The children’s father was not at the apartment when officers found their bodies.
Carbajal said the man "broke down" when police told him what happened to the kids.
Police have no released the identity of the children or further details about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

[Stars & Stripes] One week after the Army changed its policy to permit female service members to wear their hair in something other than a bun, the verdict from social media is anything but unanimous.
The change allows women to wear ponytails and braids in all duty uniforms, but a common complaint on social media forums like Facebook, Twitter and TikTok, particularly from men, is that the change makes unfair concessions to women.
Out of more than 200 comments on the Stars and Stripes Facebook page, several commenters, mostly men, pointed out the change as a softening of Army standards.

To look at him, I would have never guessed. He looks as if he never goes outside, never participates in outdoor activities, no sports, no golf. He's spindly, awkward and wimpy looking, certainly not macho. When he speaks it sounds like Mickey Mouse. And, for some reason, I suspect his hygiene isn't what it should be.
I don't give him much credit for brain power either. Not really. He was smart enough, with help from Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer, to make the most out of being in the right place at the right time. But anyone who has ever worked with Windows can see that it is not the work of genius. He stole the idea from Jobs and Jobs stole it from Xerox PARC. His implementation of the idea is piss poor, bloated and full of defects. He was always slow to take advantage of innovations like faster processors, more memory and the Internet.
Well, he has lots of money and certainly for some women that's enough.
But it is nice to have him discredited so that nobody will listen to him and his dangerous megalomaniac propositions anymore. When he starts saying things like people should eat fake meat instead of beef, people should not consider him to be a serious or influential person.

[NYPOST] A Bengal tiger that has been missing for a week in Houston — and which prompted hundreds of tips about his possible whereabouts — has been found safe. The tiger's been found safe? Waydaminnit!
"The tiger appears to be in very good health," Houston Police Department Commander Ron Borza said at a news conference late Saturday. How many people did it eat?
The 9-month old, 175-pound beast, named "India," was wearing a turquoise, bejeweled collar and being bottle fed in a video posted by the HPD, in which Borza and a woman identified as the wife of the tiger owner were seen petting and cuddling with the animal.
"Commander, it’s been a long week," someone says to Borza in the clip.
"It really has been," Borza laughed, "but we got him and he’s healthy."
India was spotted out in a neighborhood on May 9 causing some tension with neighbors as he roamed and lounged on front yards.
By Saturday, a "concerned citizen" in contact with India’s owner’s wife, identified as Gia, contacted the local animal shelter, Borza said, and helped arranged for India to be turned over to authorities.
Borza explained he let Gia come along as India was taken to the shelter "because of the stress the tiger’s been through the last couple of weeks. He was obviously agitated . . . The animal likes attention."
"It wasn’t found," Borza added. "It was brought to us."’

[HotAir] There’s going to be a gay pride parade in New York City again this year (likely ignoring any remaining NY COVID restrictions) but some people may be missing from the crowd. The organizers of the annual event have announced that the New York City Police Department is not welcome at the parade. Where they found the authority to make such a pronouncement is completely unknown, but the person in charge certainly seems to feel as if he has the ability to make sweeping decisions like this. The ban applies to "participating" in the parade, but it’s not exactly clear how that would apply to municipal employees who are working in the vicinity of the parade as opposed to those who are marching. NYC Pride is also working to reduce the New York Police Department’s security and first responder presence at its events, the organization said. So who will they call when the thugs show up to beat the crap out of them?
André Thomas, co-chair of Heritage of Pride, which produces NYC Pride, told ABC News it was a difficult decision that’s "not going to please everyone."
"We know many LGBT cops," Thomas said. "But what the institution represents sometimes to a person of color or trans person is violence, and that doesn’t make you feel safe. So that’s the perspective we’re coming from.
You may very well experience violence and it won't be the police.

Officials from both the Trump and Biden administrations have said the Chinese government worked for over a year to thwart an independent investigation into the origins of the virus, which has killed 3.37 million people worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. Both administrations cast doubt on the manner in which the study from China and the World Health Organization was conducted in early 2021. Though the WHO-China report said a jump from animals to humans was most likely, Trump officials have pointed to an accidental escape from the Wuhan Institute of Virology as a highly plausible origin for the pandemic.

But the driver of the Tesla, 35-year-old Steven Michael Hendrickson, was found to have been a member of the Southern California Tesla Club and had regularly posted videos of himself driving the car in autopilot mode.
