The store owners had to physically fight off sledge hammer attackers bare handed. In OPEN CARRY states (eg. GA) the store owners would have just shot them.

Wild weekend of violence spreads across the Northeast, leaves ten shot dead and dozens wounded as temperatures hit nearly 100F during heatwave
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Maybe climate change is good.
  • Violence spread across the Northeast over the weekend with cities reporting dozens of shootings and homicides as temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit

  • In New York City, police responded to at least nine shootings that left three men dead and a 17-year-old girl injured when she was randomly shot in the face at a Bronx party

  • In Philadelphia, detectives are investigating at least 18 shootings, six homicides and eight stabbings since Saturday morning, and in Washington DC authorities are investigating the death of an on-duty officer

  • In New Jersey, a party advertised on social media spun out of control, with police from multiple agencies responding to the scene Saturday night in riot gear

  • New Jersey police arrested a total of 15 people - including 11 adults and four minors - and had to set a curfew for 9pm

  • Studies show that heat can affect humans' ability to deal with aggression
We have many years of long, hot summers behind us, and no doubt more ahead. This difference now is that the police aren’t permitted to arrest miscreants, and even if they do the prosecutors won’t prosecute ‘em.

Judge Who Donates to Planned Parenthood Sides with Them in Case to Block Michigan Abortion Ban
[Townhall] Last week, Judge Elizabeth Gleicher ruled in favor of Planned Parenthood with regards to Michigan's state abortion ban, which would go back into effect should the U.S. Supreme Court rule to overturn Roe v. Wade. Judge Gleicher's decision comes not only as the Supreme Court does indeed look to be going in that direction, but after she had previously represented the abortion provider and continues to make donations. Dave Boucher, who has covered the case for Detroit Free Press, noted that Gleicher was "randomly" assigned the case.

The law, from 1931, would ban abortions in Michigan, except to save the life of the mother.

According to the injunction issued last Tuesday by Judge Gleicher, Planned Parenthood is likely to prevail in arguing that the abortion ban violates the state constitution.

Bomb threat closes ALL schools in Wisconsin school district where three teens, aged 13, were accused of sexual harassment for using wrong pronouns to address their non-binary classmate
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • A bomb threat closed all schools in the district Monday, days after three middle schoolers found themselves under investigation over pronoun use

  • Kiel Middle School received the threat during school hours, as cops said they were investigating 'threatening communications' toward district staff

  • The students, all aged 13, were all hit with a formal complaint earlier this month, for referring to the unnamed student as 'she' or 'her,' rather than 'they' or 'them'

  • One of the children, Braden Rabidoux, spoke out about the investigation in an interview with Fox News last week, airing fears that he may not get into college

  • He along with his two classmates argue that the First Amendment allows them to refer to their nonbinary classmate with whatever pronouns they wish

  • The incident has since gained traction and has garnered national news coverage, thrusting the small Kiel Area School District into the spotlight

As was posted by well informed RantBurg commenter last week.

TITLE 18, U.S.C., SECTION 242. Deprivation Of Rights Under Color Of Law. Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

Thus allowing the wacky liberal Wisconsin school district board, school admin and educators to be charged with violating the Civil Rights of the students.

Let the Lawsuits begin.

#5  So if an elected official's inaction in the enforcement of law constitutes actual impairment of a "right of priviledge", then willful failure to enforce law can be considered damaging to the privilege of sovereign citizenship. DA's that fail to prosecute entire classes of criminal behavior, or Federal Agents and Prosecutors that don't enforce Immigration Law? These acts are certainly "willful", and they certainly have the "color of authority" and the criminality permitted is certainly damaging to our rights as citizens?
Somewhere in this there has to be a remedy to public officials acting as arbiters of which laws they will enforce or ignore. Prosecutorial discretion has become Imperial Hubris! Lifetime civil service tenure is becoming a form of aristocracy, and the Swamp increasingly seems a Praetorian Guard in the late Imperial Era.
Franklin's commment about a "....Republic, if you can keep it" seems prescient now more than ever.

#6  An actual bomb attack on an entire school district would take a lot of materials, planning and effort. Alternatively, calling in a bomb threat takes the inverse of all of those elements. I believe this incident is a side order of additional stupidity to complement the main course of dumbness which is this entire incident. I think the chief suspect should be a stupid person or group of stupid people. That is the profile I am providing in this case. Please generate a BOLO.

GA Early Voting Sets Records; Contradicts 'voter suppression' meme
[JewishWorldReview] ... The surge in the early vote in Georgia shows that all the smears about the state's new voting law, repeated by everyone from the president of the United States on down, were complete nonsense.

On the Republican side, according to the secretary of state's office, there have been 453,929 early votes and 29,220 absentee votes this primary season (absentee votes are still coming in as of this writing). This is compared with just 153,264 early votes and 14,795 absentee votes during the last, pre-pandemic midterm, in 2018.

The Democrats have seen a similar surge. In 2022, there have been 337,245 early votes and 31,704 absentee votes, compared with only 134,542 early votes and 13,051 absentee votes in 2018.

The early vote among minorities in particular is up markedly.

Princeton University Fires Professor Joshua Katz
[LI] A Princeton classics professor was fired, "effective immediately," on Monday after the university’s administration found that he had not been fully honest and cooperative with an investigation into his sexual relationship with an undergraduate student about 15 years ago.

The dismissal of the professor, Joshua Katz, was a rare case of a tenured professor being dismissed, and came after a fierce debate on campus and in wider political spheres over whether Dr. Katz was being targeted for an article in an online journal that criticized anti-racist proposals by faculty, students and staff.

The board voted to dismiss him based on a "detailed written complaint from an alumna who had a consensual relationship with Dr. Katz while she was an undergraduate under his academic supervision," according to a statement from the university issued Monday afternoon. That relationship was in 2006-07, but the alumna did not file her complaint until 2021.

NYPD puts 4,650 vaccine firings on hold: insiders
[NYPost] The city’s vaccine mandate has been put on “pause” for the NYPD so the force can avoid losing nearly 5,000 cops and employees as the weather — and crime — heats up, The Post has learned.

Currently, 91 percent of the NYPD’s uniformed cops and other personnel are vaccinated, City Hall says. That leaves an estimated 4,659 NYPD employees unvaccinated despite a deadline to get the shots by Oct. 29.

“In a nutshell, no decisions will be made, no further members will be forced to leave until further notice,” said a veteran NYPD sergeant, explaining the unwritten rule. “There hasn’t been any memo, just basically keep everything status quo and if issues arise we will revisit it down the road.”

Last month, an undisclosed number of officers received final notices rejecting their requests for religious or medical exemptions to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for municipal employees.

But an unspecified number of requests remain pending, letting cops and others in a state of limbo keep working.

Currently, 91 percent of the NYPD’s uniformed cops and other personnel are vaccinated.

One veteran NYPD cop who works in Brooklyn said he was forced to get the vax last month after his appeal for a religious exemption was denied. “I got an email saying if I didn’t get the shot I would be placed on leave without pay and face termination.”

But he added that he knew cops who called the personnel bureau “after the newest denials came down this week.” They were told “the NYPD is not taking any action against anyone who is not vaccinated at this point.”

Said the officer: “For anyone who has been fighting up until this point I am happy there seems to be a pause and hopefully it’s permanent. I can’t undo having to get the shot.”

City Hall denied a slowdown in enforcement.

#2  Seems like street chaos, lib DA and disrespect of Law Enforcement will hamper recruitment. Also being assassinated is a real job risk for police or even subway commuters in NYC. Any officers close to retirement are probably counting the days and planning how to contract IBS to enhance their retirement paychecks. Staffing law enforcement jobs in the city will be very expensive going forward. The Defund crowd will end up with fewer heads at a higher cost.

#4  I visit Tom's Hardware (the link above) every day. It's one of the more reputable tech sites in the sense that it leans towards actual tech as opposed to press-release fanboi stenography.

That said, all the tech sites are hopelessly infested with left wing politics and rooting for China is a common thing.

When I want to cause some agita, I drop a comment on such sites to the effect that "I don't go to knitting sites for recipes and I don't come to tech sites for politics." And the wailing begins.

On some tech sites, pretty much every comment thread is hijacked into politics within the first ten comments.

Tech people are sure that their narrow area of expertise (or interest, there are plenty of non-experts anxious to posture that they actually are experts) makes them smart in every other area of human endeavor. This gets you Bill Gates playing doctor and similar.

Consume their non-tech nonsense at your own risk.

Denmark will give Kiev US-made Harpoon missiles, the Pentagon has confirmed
[RT] Denmark will provide an unspecified number of Harpoon anti-ship missiles and launchers to Ukraine, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced on Monday. Last week’s rumors about the transaction prompted Kiev to declare the US would help Ukraine "destroy" the Russian fleet, which the outgoing Pentagon front man denied.

Officially, the missiles are intended to help "defend the Ukrainian coastline," according to Austin and Joint Chiefs Chairman General Mark Milley, who spoke with news hounds after Monday’s virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.

The panel — composed of 47 countries willing to supply Kiev with weapons — had a "highly constructive" meeting and got "a sharper sense" of Ukrainian needs from Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov and other Kiev officials, Austin said.

In addition to the Danish missiles, Czechia has pledged attack helicopters, tanks, and multiple rocket launcher systems (MLRS). Kiev has been asking for long-range artillery, tanks and armored vehicles, as well as drones, according to Austin.

Boeing’s A/U/RGM-84 Harpoon is the US Navy’s standard anti-ship missile, with an estimated range of about 300 kilometers. It has active radar guidance and skims the surface until it reaches the target, at which point it can execute a "pop-up" maneuver and strike from above. Harpoons are normally launched from either surface vessels or attack aircraft, but launchers can be removed from ships for use ashore — which appears to be what Denmark intends to do.

Last week, Rooters reported that the Pentagon was considering sending Ukraine either Harpoons or Naval Strike Missiles (NSM), directly or through a "European ally." The agency cited "three US officials and two congressional sources," all of them anonymous. They expressed hope that once the first country commits to sending Harpoons, others would follow.

According to Rooters, the NSM was regarded as "less logistically difficult" because NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
countries could send Ukraine the launchers and it only took 14 days to train operators how to use them — but it had a somewhat shorter range of 250 kilometers.

The story generated some controversy, however, when Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko tweeted that the US was "preparing a plan to destroy the Black Sea Fleet," referring to Russia’s naval force currently off the Ukrainian coast. Asked about this, Pentagon front man John Kirby told news hounds he could "tell you definitively that that’s not true." However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
he did not deny that the US was considering sending Harpoons to Kiev.

On Monday, Austin confirmed that Kirby was leaving the Pentagon and moving to work at the White House’s national security council. Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog had finished eating the rat terrier...
Gerashchenko’s tweet has been deleted.

The US has just committed another $40 billion in military aid to Kiev, including weapons shipments, despite fears by some European allies that this could draw NATO into a direct confrontation with Russia. Moscow has repeatedly warned the alliance that any shipments of weapons and supplies into Ukraine will be considered legitimate military targets. Russia has been carrying out air and cruise missile strikes against Ukrainian supply facilities.

Last month, the Pentagon claimed to have provided intelligence that helped Ukraine launch a missile attack against the Russian cruiser Moskva, flagship of the Black Sea Fleet. According to Kiev and Washington, the Ukrainians fired two Neptune missiles that struck the ship, which eventually sank. The Russian Navy said that Moskva was lost while being towed to port in stormy seas, after an ammunition explosion on board caused a fire.

#2  Why is an anti-ship missile important in the current fight? Seems like transporting irrelevant missiles cross-country towards the Crimea would not end well if the Russians have air superiority and intel capability of some sort.

Every time we talk, I hear in the voice President Zelensky is the determination of a man who deeply believes in his duty to his people and is daily responsible for his nation in this dark and difficult hour.

The President stressed that if Ukraine had received all the necessary support in February, the result would have been tens of thousands of saved lives.

14:43 Zelensky said at a forum in Davos that the war in Ukraine could be repeated: "The war can be repeated, I am sure of this. We must make sure that people and businesses are not afraid to develop in our country. Our task is to create the most modern air defense system , to have a security treaty with countries we trust, and that any future chances of an aggressor for an invasion are terminated before entering our land."

The President also expressed his conviction that the war could have been prevented if the West had introduced preventive sanctions against Russia in time.

14:32 Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov said in an interview with UP that an attempt was made on Putin after the start of the war against Ukraine: "There were attempts on Putin ... The combination of poor low-level tactics with limited air cover, a lack of flexibility and a team approach that is willing to compound failures and repeat mistakes has led to this high loss rate.

The Russian public has in the past been sensitive to losses incurred during wars. Therefore, as the number of victims in Ukraine grows, the losses will become more obvious, and public dissatisfaction with the war and the desire to voice it may increase, analysts say.

Therefore, even if the Russians can hit some kind of cargo on the territory of Ukraine , from a strategic point of view, this will not stop the military assistance that we provide."

04:21 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggests that Russian troops are preparing an offensive in the southern direction, while on May 22 they received only minimal achievements in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian sources also confirmed that Russian troops had advanced locally to the north and west of Popasna. The invaders are probably aiming to move further west towards Bakhmut and north towards Severodonetsk, but are unlikely to achieve a rapid advance.

The Russians will likely try to hold positions west of the Seversky Donets River against Ukrainian attacks (rather than pull back across the river) to prevent further threat of a Ukrainian advance towards Izyum.

Russia says Ukrainian forces planning a provocation using chemicals.
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] The Ukrainian military mined containers with hazardous chemicals at the rare gases plant in Lysychansk in order to carry out a provocation and accuse Russia of indiscriminate shelling, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Control Center, said.

"In Lisichansk, Luhansk People's Republic, in the building and hangars of a rare gas plant, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine placed cannon artillery and MLRS, mined containers with chemically hazardous substances, and employees of the plant and local residents are forcibly detained in underground structures.

At the same time, nationalists systematically fire from MLRS positions of the Armed Forces Russia and the formations of the Lugansk People's Republic , thereby provoking them to retaliate in order to further accuse them of killing civilians and creating a man-made disaster in the city," he said.

Ukrainian nationalists placed firing positions in schools in Odessa
The general also spoke about another upcoming action: according to him, in Putivl, Sumy region , Ukrainian neo-Nazis mined bridges across the Seim and Lyubka rivers, which they plan to blow up and accuse the Russian Armed Forces of supposedly indiscriminate strikes on vital civilian infrastructure facilities.

Mizintsev stressed that such facts once again demonstrate the complete disregard of the Ukrainian authorities for the norms of morality and the provisions of international humanitarian law.

#1  Yeah, I've long suspected a false flag chemical attack that will provide the casus belli for US entry and a much larger war.

And if the nukes fly? Well, globalists are of the opinion that the planet is overpopulated anyway. A few billion dead is a plus, particularly if they're those deplorable Americans. It's win-win.

#2  Ambrose Pritchard-Evans reports from Davis that Kissinger has added his voice to calls for the US to force Ukraine to trade land for peace:

Henry Kissinger: Ukraine must give Russia territory
Former US Secretary of State warns against the defeat of Putin as Western unity on sanctions frays badly

Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.

The former US secretary of state and architect of the Cold War rapprochement between the US and China told a gathering in Davos that it would be fatal for the West to get swept up in the mood of the moment and forget the proper place of Russia in the European balance of power.

Dr Kissinger said the war must not be allowed to drag on for much longer, and came close to calling on the West to bully Ukraine into accepting negotiations on terms that fall very far short of its current war aims.

Neither! He's a former US intelligence officer, displaced Antwerp Diamantkwartier, and China apologist.

#7  Macron is urging an end to the war based on trading land for peace. So is Draghi. So is US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who is encouraging a ceasefire in calls to his counterpart.

Kissinger is stating the obvious. Eloquently and shrewdly as always, but everyone with a cool eye and a sound mind can see that there is no alternative to a peace settlement that requires Ukraine to give up Crimea and the Donbas.

#8  displaced Antwerp Diamantkwartier

^ That's an uncharacteristically nasty and anti-Semitic lie from a poster who knows better. I'm very surprised to read this.

Kissinger's family was from Furth, Germany. They had no connection at all to either Antwerp or the diamond trade. His father, Louis Kissinger, was a teacher who was forced out of his position by the Nazis in 1938. The family left for England and then made their way to New York where his father took up employment in a brush factory and the Son excelled in US public schools. He served honorably in the Army and wrote movingly (essay, "The Eternal Jew") about his encounters with Nazi concentration camps.

Attack Kissinger's logic or arguments all you like but vile anti-Semitic slurs have no place here.

#11  Attack Kissinger's logic or arguments

That would be quite difficult. His logic is compelling. Especially this:

“I hope the Ukrainians will match the heroism they have shown with wisdom,” Kissinger said, adding with his famous sense of realpolitik that the proper role for the country is to be a neutral buffer state rather than the frontier of Europe.

This is exactly correct. There can be no peace or security in Europe until Ukraine becomes a neutral buffer state. It cannot be a fault line without causing endless wars.

Kissinger is also persuasive in his critique of the futile and self-destructive attempts to isolate a nation as large and important as Russia.

Kissinger told the World Economic Forum that Russia had been an essential part of Europe for 400 years and had been the guarantor of the European balance of power structure at critical times. European leaders should not lose sight of the longer term relationship, and nor should they risk pushing Russia into a permanent alliance with China.

Kissinger, the master of triangulation, understands this danger better than anyone. This is a far greater danger to the West than the threat of Russian aggression.

The comments came amid growing signs that the Western coalition against Vladimir Putin is fraying badly as the food and energy crisis deepens, and that sanctions may have reached their limits.

It's clear to everyone that now is the time to cut our losses and settle. To join wisdom to heroism, as Kissinger says.

#13  /\ Kissinger is also persuasive in his critique of the futile and self-destructive attempts to isolate a nation as large and important as Russia.

#14  The arguments, if that's what they are, being put forth here are incoherent.

One angry riposte is that Kissinger caused the war in Vietnam, when it was Kennedy who inherited it from Eisenhower who inherited it from the French. Kissinger and Nixon extricated the US from the labyrinth that their Democratic predecessors had plunged into.

Also, the "globalist" slur is very strange in view of the opposition to the war from American anti-globalists such as Senators Rand Paul and Joshua Hawley.

Also, the bizarre comment implying that Ukrainians alone should be allowed to determine the outcome of a war that is destroying the global economy and threatening to make the West significantly weaker and poorer.

The South Vietnamese did not negotiate with the Viet Cong; the US president and his Secretary of State did. The Ukrainian president must have a voice but not the determining one. The world has too much at stake for our interests to be defined solely in terms of our client state's immediate desires.

Look I understand you. Three principles of human behavior - hierarchical, tribal, and territorial. Your loyalty is to your tribe, rationalize it as much as you want. Your tribe is now engaged in outright territorial aggrandizement against another tribe with a distinct identity, loyalty, and sense of territoriality of their own. Everything else is just rationalization.

#27  reports from Davis that Kissinger has added his voice to calls for the US to force Ukraine to trade land for peace:

Realpolitiking to the last, which is certainly an internally consistent viewpoint. Though it’s proven wrong as often as right, even when Dr. Kissinger was the face of American international policy. During the Yom Kippur War in 1973, for instance, he would have left Israel hanging in the wind, just as he made it plain America was uninterested in the fate of the Soviet Jews; President Nixon had to override his orders in order to ship Israel the bullets and so forth they needed to win.

He is two years older than my mother, and from the other end of Germany, my mother being from near Hannover. He and his parents escaped to America around the same time as my mother and her parents got to Amsterdam, where they were stuck for the duration — so Mama’s understanding of the world, as a result of her very different experiences, is nothing like his, despite also having a PhD (or in her case, nearly two, but she feels no need to swan around about such things).

I’ve been to the diamond quarter in Antwerp, though not since the end of the last century. About half the dealers were the native Orthodox Jews, a quarter were very modern Israelis, branching out from the trade in Israel, and the remainder were from India. I had no idea that was considered an insult, which shows how sheltered I’ve been. Nor has Besoeker ever been anything but the gallant gentleman to me.

Correct. Each month the war is prolonged adds about $70 billion to the cost of reviving Ukraine's dead economy.

Public opinion in Europe and the United States is turning against the war. The West simply doesn't have the resources to rebuild Ukraine. Trying to do so during a time of hyperinflation and fuel and even food scarcity will send the West into a downward spiral.

The leadership recognises this, which is why we're hearing so many calls for peace now. The Western economies cannot afford for the war to continue more than another month or two at most.

#36  Each month the war is prolonged adds about $70 billion to the cost of reviving Ukraine's dead economy.

That's a low estimate that doesn't include ongoing operations. Uncle Sam us now paying the bills for the Ukrainian government -- paymaster for the Ukrainian military, all Ukrainian civil servants, plus pensions. And all the graft that comes with such a corrupt country.

All of that is another $10 billion per month at least. This war's bill will exceed $1 trillion very quickly. When the people realize how much they're paying for it, support for prolonging the war will evaporate.

#38  Kissinger's role in the American relationship with China is suspect to say the least. If he wants an end to the war in Ukraine it's most likely because he thinks it's bad for business...his business, that is. He doesn't care about yours.

That said, Crimea was never Ukrainian until Khrushchev made it so in 1954 when, after all, it was all part of the USSR so it didn't matter. As for the rest of the border between Ukraine and Russia, and the ethnic composition of those border regions, the disputes have likely gone on for centuries or even millennia. It was always either the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union that kept things from boiling over. Now that Ukraine is independent, which it never was until the Soviet Union collapsed, these disputes would be ideally settled peacefully by elections. But fat chance of that.

Whatever. Ukraine is not Poland, Lithuania, Finland or even Kazakhstan.

And then there's NATO. Some of you discount Putin's paranoia about NATO/Biden/Deep State intentions. But do you really trust Biden when he says his intentions are strictly peaceful? Can you not understand why Putin doesn't trust him? Do you believe that the State Department and CIA were not involved in the Maidan Coup or do you not care? I would wager that at this very moment a group of Deep State and/or State Department wonks are studying a map of Eastern Europe as if it is a geopolitical chess board...and they don't mean Putin any good. If it wasn't so, Biden wouldn't have been so insistent about NATO expanding into Ukraine. Biden wants this war because he thinks Ukraine can win. He'd be calling for negotiations if he didn't.

And, exactly, what do we gain by Ukraine's membership in NATO? Honestly, I can't think of anything unless it has something to do with the enrichment of the Biden family.

Further, we have the question of what happens in Russia when they lose big time and the oligarchs decide it's time for a putsch? Who knows the answer to this question? Will it be like Poland or will it be like Libya with nukes and Biden standing aside wringing his hands? Kissinger, whatever his faults, has a point about the danger of destabilizing Russia.

Ukraine is outside of the traditional American sphere of influence but well within Russia's. I think very few Americans, and certainly not Biden, know much of anything about the history of that part of the world. And why should we any more than we knew about Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq or Vietnam? All messes, all made worse by American intervention.

It's none of our business and we should stay out of it.

Dude fails to notice that public opinion has landslided against the current occupant of the White House. That is going to do squat to change anything. Wuhan Institute of Virology Publishes New 'Gain of Function' Study Featuring Avian Flu Virus
BLUF:
[LI] The likelihood of the virus remaining hard to transmit to humans might remain low unless the scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology decided to add a few "gain of function" enhancements to H7N9.

Which, it appears, they have. The team there has just published a paper (hat-tip National Pulse): Combined insertion of basic and non-basic amino acids at the hemagglutinin cleavage site of highly pathogenic H7N9 virus promotes replication and pathogenicity in chickens and mice.

The paper was published in Virologica Sinica, the journal put out by the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Its editor-in-chief is Zheng-Li Shi. That name should be familiar to those of you who have been following the covid story, as she is the infamous "Bat Lady" of Wuhan.

China reacts to Biden's remarks on Taiwan
[ALGHADEERTV] After US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem mschine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family...
said on Monday he would be willing to use force to defend Taiwan, China’s foreign ministry said that "no one should stand against the 1.4 billion Chinese people."

US President Joe Biden in a joint presser with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in response to a question about whether the US would be prepared to defend Taiwan if attacked, replied, "Yes."

"That’s the commitment we made," Biden said, according to CNBC. "We agree with the ’one China’ policy. We signed on to it. All the attendant agreements [were] made from there. But the idea that that can be taken by force, just taken by force. It’s just not it’s just not appropriate."

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
a White House official who was asked to clarify the comment responded ’As the President said, our policy has not changed. He reiterated our One China Policy and our commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also reiterated our commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to provide Taiwan with the military means to defend itself.’

Taiwan’s foreign ministry thanked Biden for reaffirming US support for the island if Beijing attacked.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
China’s foreign ministry expressed "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition" to the remarks, before adding that Beijing has no room for compromise or concessions relating to matters of illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will, and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity, and do not stand against the 1.4 billion Chinese people," China’s foreign ministry said.

Average Age Of Vehicles On US Highways Keeps Getting Older
[ZERO] The average age of vehicles on US highways rose for the fifth consecutive year and to a record high, as supply-chain disruptions and inventory challenges prompt owners to hold on to their cars and trucks longer, according to research from S&P Global Mobility.

Semiconductor shortages and inventory challenges were the top drivers in pushing US average vehicle age to 12.2 years, another all-time high.

Chip supply constraints have caused continued parts shortages for carmakers, who have been forced to cut production. The constrained supply of new cars and light trucks, amid a strong demand for personal transportation, could have influenced consumers to continue operating their existing vehicles longer, as inventory levels for both new and used vehicles were depleted across the industry. - S&P Global Mobility

The finding reflects that used car life cycles are being extended because new vehicle supplies are tight. Kelley Blue Book recorded average new car prices at $46,526 in April, another obstacle for prospective buyers. Despite used car prices reversing from lofty levels, they remain out of reach for many, thus consumers are holding on to their vehicles longer.

About a decade ago, a used vehicle with over 100,000 miles would've been deemed a lemon by a consumer, though now, it's common to see multiple owners for one with 200,000 miles.

The increasing average vehicle age and higher mileage point to a "notable increase in repair revenue in the coming year," Todd Campau, associate director of aftermarket solutions at S&P Global Mobility, told Bloomberg.

There's reason to believe the average age of vehicles on US highways will continue marching higher as tight supplies of new and used cars have sparked an unaffordability crisis.

#2  The emergence of high quality used car merchants in the US began about 15 years ago.

It was enabled by the fact that cars were better than they were 20 or 30 years ago.

This is one reason, maybe the most important reason for the phenomenon cited.

#3  If it wasn't for the Gas Crisis of the 70s, American's by and large would never have had the experience of Japanese cars which strangely enough were build right to begin with, engineered well to last an owner, and came without a piece of MSRP paper dangling half way down the door from the window with all the $$ extras. In order to survive, American manufactures had to make a half way decent effort (beyond lobbying for import quotas) to make their products survive more than a model year or two down the road.

#4  Because there was a huge kill-off of older cars, called "cash for clunkers" that artificially reduced the average age of cars. Now things are returning towards normal.

#5  The "Car Allowance Rebate System" was a federal program active in 2009. About 700k cars were turned in.

It was part of the "help car companies' effort that year.

A lot of States had their own version of this.

#6  Last year, when I traded in my '04 F-150 (Drink up!) for a new one, I didn't get squat in trade-in value. Probably because it had 240K miles on it. Still running great and in good shape.

#8  Frank, you should have called me. I just scrapped my '89 Ranger.

Vehicles are getting better. It's the rust here in New England that finally gets them. My last car had 250K and the engine and drive train were fine, but the body was badly rusted and finally the gas tank needed replacing, which was a big deal, along with about $3K of "deferred maintenance". If I'd done all that, I'd still have a 15 year old rusty car.

German Farmer Resorts To Horse and Buggy Due To High Gas Prices
[Green Jihad] Rising gas prices are only getting worse and a German farmer’s recent decision is an indication of this. From the Associated Press:

Stephanie Kirchner’s journey to work has got longer but, she says, cheaper: she has left her SUV at home and switched to real horse power.

Stud farm owner and horse trainer Kirchner, 33, says she decided "it can’t go on like this" after fuel prices jumped following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. "Since I also suspected hay harvesting and everything else will become much, much more expensive, we said, ’we have to save a little money,’" she says.

So she has switched to traveling the roughly 6 kilometers (3 1/2 miles) from her home in western Germany by horse-drawn carriage. That turns a one-way trip from 10-15 minutes to as much as an hour.

The AP states Kirchner can save about $250 a month making this switch, provided a horse and carriage is used daily. This is what environmentalists want, a return to primitivism and now the left’s new normal is beginning to be realized thanks to the environmentalist’s war on fossil fuels.

The AP might have also published this as a way to try to help deflect for Joe Biden by ensuring that Kirchner’s claim that the Ukraine conflict is to blame for rising fuel prices was included as a cynical way to keep that talking point alive. But gas price increases are mostly Joe Biden’s fault and no doubt environmentalists are gleeful due to the pain people are feeling at the pump.

#2  This treatment is nothing new. They have been working this type of treatment for a couple decades, with little success so far. The trick here is to give the cancer a cold or virus that the body recognizes and kills. This will be the treatment of the future when they figure it out.
