Better than the IHOP in Augusta Ga. on Peach Orchard Rd. where the NEWS tell us the IHOP there decided to debit customers for visits that customers claim never happened.
In their defense. IHOP "claims" they did not somehow notice their credit/debit system was not processing the transactions for as much 4+ months. So they suddenly processed close to a 1,000+ debits on Feb. 9th.
Much of the Midwest and Mountain states are seeing subzero temperatures and blizzard conditions as the polar vortex sweeps through. As far south as Dallas, the temperatures dipped into the 20s. In parts of Minnesota, temperatures dipped to near their lowest levels in a century. In Texas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is warning of "rolling blackouts" due to extreme cold.
Green energy to the rescue, right?
Hardly. As the Center for the American Experiment, a climate-skeptic Minnesota-based think tank has reported:
"Wind turbines are shut down when temperatures are below -22° F because it is too cold to operate them safely. This means it will be too cold for the wind turbines built by the power companies to generate any electricity."

The fan farms around here were working just fine yesterday AM when it was -43F wind chill.
The actual temp was only -19F though, so possibly they do shut down at -22F actual. We've been colder but haven't seen -22F this year during the daylight hours (yet).
P.S. - I don't watch for the fans at night, more concentrated on deer and critter movements while driving.

We’ve seen that, for our federal political class, what stays distant from D.C. (such as riots, vandalism, violence, and hordes of drug-addled homeless occupying a city) is not a big deal. Instead, we're told the societal breakdown we see is mostly peaceful, normal expressions of "protest." But bring an "insurrection" close to the home of our elected leaders, and all hell breaks loose.
During the January 6th breach of the Capitol, nobody burned the building, trashed its contents, or stole the art off the walls, but our public flower children of politics got spooked, and now we have an armed military and razor wire guarding them. Moreover, these protections are apparently there to stay until the cows come home, optics be damned.
Imagine our senators’ and House members’ chagrin if, after a day of mindlessly undoing every accomplishment Trump achieved, as much to spite him as for policy reasons, they had to wade through teeming hordes of Guatemalan and Honduran refugee families whenever they left their sacrosanct lair. These people are penniless, uneducated, homeless, and carrying who-knows-what diseases, most likely along with plenty of COVID.
Our sheltered politicians would have to deal with the mess, just as the rest of us. They would be the ones stepping around the piles of feces and crossing the street to avoid the tweaking, scary addicts. They would see rats run from one rank pile of garbage to the next. They, not ordinary people, would fear for their lives as the desperate got violent.
With this introduction to the real world, they might think twice then about allowing the cartels to move massive amounts of Chinese oxycontin into our country. They might think twice about releasing the refugee hordes.
They might actually be forced to think about the consequences of their actions in real-time, rather than theoretically — just as they had to think about what it felt like to be invaded by a mob, a behavior that met with Democrats’ approval throughout 2020. When the mob came near them, they certainly acted quickly to ensure it never happened again. They even over-reacted, by the looks of it.
The benefit to Texas would be immediate. Instead of becoming responsible for housing and healthcare for the refugees that Biden et al let in, they’d get to offload that responsibility right where it belongs -- onto the people who invited the situation.
What type of policy shift would happen? Start with ICE. Congresspeople would need them, desperately, as crime rises. It’s nice to say, in theory, that having a gang tattoo of MS13 on your forehead doesn’t make you a gang member. But faced with a machete-wielding, tatted up thug or two, they might re-evaluate. Likewise, they might think, theoretically, that coddling addicts and housing the "unhoused" is the thing to do, but give them thousands of each, how will they act? Is it not right that the people who make the rules for the rest of us, get to reap the harvest of their misguided efforts?
Then, they’d have to reconsider the wall. Wouldn’t that be something?

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, who also serves as chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, however, said that the president’s open support for legalized abortion should put that label to rest.
Speaking with Catholic World Report, Naumann flatly said that Biden "should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic" while acknowledging that his abortion views stand in direct opposition to the Catholic Church.
"Mr. Biden professes to be a devout Catholic, yet is 100% pro-choice on abortion. How do you think America’s bishops ought to respond to this situation?" CWR asked.
"I can tell you how this bishop is responding. The president should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic, and acknowledge that his view on abortion is contrary to Catholic moral teaching. It would be a more honest approach from him to say he disagreed with his Church on this important issue and that he was acting contrary to Church teaching," Naumann responded. "When he says he is a devout Catholic, we bishops have the responsibility to correct him. Although people have given this president power and authority, he cannot define what it is to be a Catholic and what Catholic moral teaching is."
"What he is doing now is usurping the role of the bishops and confusing people," Naumann added. "He’s declaring that he’s Catholic, and is going to force people to support abortion through their tax dollars. The bishops need to correct him, as the president is acting contrary to the Catholic faith."

Promoting abortion is, in Catholic dogma, a deadly sin if not confessed, repented, and amends made.
Unrepentant repeated deliberate and knowing commission of a deadly sin incurs latae sentitiae excommunication.
This means that the person is excommuicated by the very act; no explicit decree of excommunication is necessary.
In short, if the Bishops would have the guts to call him out, they would correctly term him as an excommunicated Catholic, ineligible for communion - and quite possibly ineligible for any of the other 7 Sacraments except the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Since IIRC absolution is only efficacious if the person actually is trying to repent, how can a politician (with a handful of noble exceptions) be given communion, especially during an election season?
I'm not Catholic, so maybe I'm missing some subtlety here.

According to one of the priests at my parish, only the Pope can excommunicate a head of state. Don't know if that is true - when I mentioned it on Facebook, another priest said "WHAT??"

In the laws of the church, it is as I said: latae sentitiae excommunication. No declaration needed. Ask them about that. Pin them down, make them sweat. They need correction and sometimes the laity needs to provide it.
Here is a citation to provide them with:

Can. 1398 A person who procures a completed abortion incurs a latae sententiae excommunication.
Pope John Paul II's 'Gospel of Life' teaches clearly .. Abortion is the greatest evil attack on innocent, defenseless life.
The Code of Canon Law further instructs bishops: "A person is to be punished with a just penalty, who, at a public event or assembly, or in a published writing, or by otherwise using the means of social communication, utters blasphemy, or gravely harms public morals, or rails at or excites hatred of or contempt for religion or the Church" (canon 1369).
Furthermore, the Code of Canon Law states that "A person who actually procures an abortion incurs a latć sententić excommunication" (canon 1398), and "[those] who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion" (canon 915).
Biden hits ALL those, as does anyone who unrepentatnly and publicly supports the procurment of abortion.
An excommunicated person is not cut off from the Church, but is barred from receiving the Eucharist and the other sacraments, and from taking a ministerial part in the liturgy (reading, bringing the offerings, etc.), while still being bound by obligations such as attending Mass
Correct your priests. They should be witholding the sacraments other than the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the people to confess and repent of their support for abortion.
[American Thinker] Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) may have learned a painful lesson about straddling the political fence. After he strongly rebuked President Trump, accusing him of inciting the January 6 riot, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in turn, rebuked McConnell, accusing him of dereliction of duty, for not casting a (non-decisive) vote to convict Trump on impeachment. McConnell should know that trying to please both sides does not work — it only makes enemies of both.
In politics, there is a legitimate role for compromise, but only if both sides engage in good faith. The Democrats have discovered, much to their delight, that they need not compromise. The Republicans will agreeably yield to Democrat demands.
The Democrats have a playbook that includes making false accusations and committing acts of intimidation — even street violence. They adhere to it rigorously. They are much like a cult; once you're in it, you may fear to leave it. Then, using their enforced unity, the Democrats overwhelm timid Republicans.
One of President Trump's great successes was that he engendered a degree of courage in the Republican Party that it had not seen since at least as far back as the Reagan presidency. He was able to get the Republicans to "grow a spine."
Now, however, with Trump removed from the White House by fraud, we are seeing the effects of the resulting leadership vacuum. Republican senators are once again wavering, waffling, seeking compromise, which leads only to surrender. They recently had it in their power to expose the election fraud, to prove it, and to defeat it. Instead, they thought they could return to business as normal and wait two years for the next election — an election that, according to the Democrat playbook, will never happen — unless it is as rigged as the 2020 election was.
The open question now is, will Republicans at the state and federal levels quickly understand the lesson that McConnell should be learning? Will they recognize that playing nice with Democrats only encourages them to continue, and increase, their dirty tactics?
There is some hope. In North Dakota, the state government has announced that it will disobey unconstitutional executive orders from the White House. That is a beginning, but it is tepid. More is needed. The Democrats are much bolder in their approach. For example, in states and cities they control, they blatantly and openly disregard immigration laws. This constitutes a virtual rebellion.
Republicans need to stiffen their resistance in like manner. If enough states reject the destructive policies handed down from on high, the Democrats will discover that they have bitten off more than they can chew. Even Governor Newsom (D-Calif.) is learning that, as his recall from office draws nearer.
Republicans in Congress, although out of power, need to mobilize their nongovernmental allies, few though they are, to vigorously investigate and expose the outrageous and pervasive corruption that stole the election. They need to stop pretending it didn't happen. It did, and it will again.
They must not only prevent that; they must also demand the prompt removal from power of those who seized it illegally.

A few states have openly censored their Republican Senators that voted with the Dems in this show trial. Kentucky needs to do something to send a message to Mitch to show they are unhappy, assuming they are unhappy that is.
I don't think Trump was brought down. He is probably stronger. He turned out nearly a million viewers of the parade in his honor in Palm Beach on President's Day. 40,000 watched Biden's President's Day speech on MSM (yawn). Does anyone think Biden won the 2020 election?

It’s not hard to understand why some Americans might see the redesign as a radical break from tradition. I doubt many folks here of any hue or cry have anything against Tubman. I'd be fine with putting her on the flag if that passed in an honest vote. Problem is, Tubman on the twenty's just a wedge, a token that'll end up being the currency analog of the Sowell documentary that aired last night on San Diego PBS. At ten o'clock. First and last airing, according to the schedule.

Biden’s cancellation cost jobs and pushes Canada toward greater economic cooperation with China. It also shakes confidence in U.S. business. Who would invest in the country if any future administration can simply renege on deals with the stroke of a pen?
The government has apparently brokered a meeting between the Turkmenistan government and the Taliban for a trans-Afghanistan pipeline to bring Turkmen gas across Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. If this scheme sounds familiar, it should: It was the same deal that now-Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad sought to make with the Taliban in the years before the Sept. 11 terror attacks when he was a consultant for the Unocal Corporation.

A quick back-of-the-envelope estimate last night yielded a need for about 11-100 tank car unit trains daily to replace the output the pipeline would have carried. Three derailments in the past three days, at least one blamed on a frozen switch point, tells me the pipeline would be a safer alternative. And I enjoy train watching; not much to see with a pipeline.

This statement is misleading. True there will still be tar sands oil produced but much less of it because the transportation cost will go up.
Similarly, yes the Trans Mountain Pipeline does go from the Edmonton area to the West Coast but first, the pipeline itself is near capacity and second, the oil export infrastructure on the West Coast would have to be expanded if the pipeline capacity was expanded. Both of these would take time and money.
