DC's deputy mayor charged with assault and battery over parking lot fight
[JustTheNews] Authorities have charged Washington, D.C., Deputy Mayor Chris Geldart with assault and battery in connection with an incident at a parking lot Saturday.Geldart allegedly hit another man's car door with his car door, resulting in an arguing that led to the Gelbert allegedly grabbing the other man by the throat, according to The Hill newspaper.

The office for Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, said it was taking steps to examine the incident but expressed hope for a quick end to the matter.

"We take any accusations seriously and are reviewing the matter," a statement from Bowser's office read, per the outlet. "Unfortunately, it sounds like something that happens to a lot of people — a dispute over something minor — and we hope it is resolved quickly."

Bowser appointed Geldart in January to serve as deputy mayor for Public Safety and Justice. He previously led the District's emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

#1  Typical. The other man got angry, and the Democrat felt disrespected. He should be able to scrape other people's doors if he wants! The dirt people shouldn't be able to talk back.

But don't worry, it's DC. The prosecutor will drop the charges soon.

Trump sues CNN for $75K in compensatory damages and $475 million in punitive damages, as well as court costs.
[Conservative-brief] CNN has been dealing with controversies among staff members and various personnel now for the past year. But most recently, the network was hit with a massive lawsuit from former President Donald Trump, who has alleged that CNN purposely damaged his reputation and falsely maligned him.

The suit, filed on Monday, seeks hundreds of millions and alleges that the network is actively working against him and a potential 2024 campaign. Specifically, according to a court filing, Trump is seeking $75,000 in compensatory damages and $475 million in punitive damages, as well as court costs.

“A lawsuit was filed today against CNN, the once prestigious news channel that has devolved into a purveyor of disinformation, defamation, and Fake News, at a level which the American Public, and indeed the World, will not even believe is possible,” he said in an announcement posted to his Truth Social platform.

“For years I have watched this take place, often in disbelief, but the time has finally come to hold CNN responsible and legally accountable for their willful deception and defamatory statements made about me,” he added.

A statement accompanying the post indicated that Trump also plans to file similar lawsuits against a number of other media outlets, though they were not listed. The suit also accuses the network of doing all it can to undermine and malign Trump for the sole purpose of harming him.

“President Donald J. Trump, has been a long-time critic of the defendant, Cable News Network, Inc. (‘CNN’) — not because CNN does a bad job of reporting the news, but because CNN seeks to create the news,” the lawsuit said.

“Beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence — purportedly as a ‘trusted’ news source — to defame the plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically, culminating in CNN claiming credit for ‘[getting] Trump out’ in the 2020 presidential election,” the lawsuit added.

“CNN’s campaign of dissuasion in the form of libel and slander against the plaintiff has only escalated in recent months as CNN fears the plaintiff will run for president in 2024,” it said. The suit also calls CNN’s coverage of Trump “part of its concerted effort to tilt the political balance to the Left” with the use of “scandalous, false and defamatory labels” which amounts to a “reckless disregard for the truth.”

General is reprimanded by Army for being a Twitter warrior
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Inspector general says top officer 'discredited' the service by attacking Tucker Carlson over 'feminization' of military on social media - and ridiculing vaccine-skeptic veteran

  • Major Gen. Patrick Donahoe was condemned in an investigation by the US Inspector General's for his public spats on Twitter

  • The Army found Donahoe had engaged in improper use of social media when he criticized Fox's Tucker Carlson and a COVID-vaccine skeptic Marine vet

  • The Inspector Generals office concluded that Donahoe's tweets were unprofessional and brought 'negative publicity' to the military

  • Investigators also slammed Donahoe for breaking the rules and speaking with a female officer who he defended from online trolls

#1  See, he's supposed to be able to do this without reprimand. It's one of those things that's wrong when anyone does it to his side, but he's free to do it to everyone else. I'm sure he's genuinely confused and hurt. Receiving condolences from people who tell him he's not wrong, the inspector general is a fascist.

#3  October 4, 2021: A souvenir-seeking major general reportedly abandoned American allies in Kabul
By Andrea Widburg
One of the iconic images of America's disgraceful retreat from Afghanistan was a night-vision photograph of Major General Christopher Donahue boarding a C-17 Globemaster III, the very last American paratrooper to leave Afghanistan. Square-jawed and upright, he looked like the personification of those brave Americans who fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan for 20 years. RedState, however, has exclusive information that Donahue is just as bad as the other Obama/Biden generals: he allegedly kicked 50–100 genuine American allies off the plane, leaving them to almost certain death, so he could load a big souvenir to take home. ...

We now have more armed federal bureaucrats than US Marines, investigation finds
Key bits:
[BasedPolitics] When Congress authorized $80 billion this year to beef up Internal Revenue Service enforcement and staffing, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy invoked the language of war to warn that “Democrats’ new army of 87,000 IRS agents will be coming for you.”

A video quickly went viral racking up millions of views, purporting to show a bunch of clumsy bureaucrats receiving firearms training, prompting alarm that the IRS would be engaged in military-style raids of ordinary taxpayers. The GOP claims were widely attacked as exaggerations – since the video, though from the IRS, didn’t show official agent training – but the criticism has shed light on a growing trend: the rapid arming of the federal government.

Yet more than a hundred executive agencies have armed investigators, and there doesn’t appear to be any independent authority actively monitoring or tracking the use of force across the federal government.

When asked about the need for such lethal material, agency officials typically speak only in general terms about security concerns. Agencies contacted by RealClearInvestigations from HHS to EPA declined to provide, or said they did not have, comprehensive statistics on how often their firearms are used, or details on how they conduct armed operations.

Abigail Blanco, an economics professor at the University of Tampa, and the co-author of “Tyranny Comes Home: The Domestic Fate of U.S. Militarism,” told RCI that the militarization of the federal government appears to track closely with the increased militarization of local police.

Blanco cites data in her book from criminologist Peter Kraska, who found that about 20% of small-town police departments had SWAT-style teams in the mid-1980s, deployed about 3,000 times annually. After the creation of a federal program in 1997 to arm local police with surplus military equipment, about 90% of small-town police departments had SWAT teams by the early 2000s and those units were being deployed 45,000 times annually. Current estimates suggest those SWAT teams are deployed as many as 80,000 times a year.

By and large, the arming of the federal bureaucracy is a relatively recent phenomenon: Some 74,500 federal agents had firearm authority in 1996, a number that has nearly tripled since then. Some of the increase is due to agencies taking responsibility for the security of their own buildings. The Department of Veterans Affairs, for example, did not have a police force in 1995, but by 2018 it had nearly 4,000 armed officers, mostly dedicated to guarding the agency’s hospitals and other medical sites.

“We can all understand the dangerous world out there,” said Adam Andrzejewski, the CEO of Open The Books – and thus, he said, the need for some heavy weaponry in the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice. “But some of these other agencies, like Health and Human Services, they’ve got machine guns?”

While it’s hardly a new complaint that federal bureaucracies are overstepping their rulemaking authority and usurping congress’ legislative powers, the idea that executive agencies are broadly empowered to effectively create their own laws and go out and enforce them with armed federal agents is another matter.

“So many of the regulations that can be enforced at the point of a gun have almost nothing to do with what people would normally call dangerous crime, that would be the kind of thing where you might want armed agents there,” said Burrus. “And especially coming from agencies such as the EPA and other agencies that are more quality-of-life agencies dealing with regulatory infractions, rather than involved in solving real crimes.”

Critics say allowing federal agencies to perform their own law enforcement removes an important layer of accountability that existed when unarmed federal investigators were forced to cooperate with local authorities.

“If there’s a dispute the EPA has with a rancher where they want to come in with armed agents, you’re much better off coming in with a local sheriff who is probably familiar with the person in the situation,” says Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute. “With the sheriff you have an independent person if something goes wrong. Otherwise, you’re taking the word of this government agency, where the law enforcement mechanism is the same as the bureaucracy that’s alleging the violations. It’s a real opportunity for damaging people’s rights in a major way.”

#4  I think the Marines could take them. Still, there is a larger and more important armed group of Americans that the bureaucrats will never outnumber.
Posted by: Super Hose || 10/07/2022 11:11 Comments || Top||

#5  Government departments, without an explicit mandate for use of force, should be barred from having their owned armed agents or even armed security guards. The armed agents and guards need to come from a central pool that the various departments can hire out. They then become an expense line on the departmental budget and will be scrutinized if they are truly needed.

What have you got to hide? LA and NYC REFUSE to hand over crime stats to FBI for national figures as murder rises by 4.3% and rape by 3.9% across the country

#1  I doubt this is a refusal b LA and NYC.

The Federal Govt collects a lot of data and some States and Cities are late every year. Also, some data collection is subject to multiple layers of review. Murder and Rape are among these because, for example, some deaths take quite a bit of time to figure out if they were a result of murder or accidental homicide or suicide or just an accident.

Biden lashes out at MAGA Republicans after court ruled DACA program shielding 600,000 migrants is illegal – and barred new applicants
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Scheme shields 600,000 'dreamer' migrants in U.S. illegally from deportation

  • 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Obama did not have authority for plan

  • The White House is now planning a legal challenge to keep the plan in place
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals released its decision Wednesday directing a federal district judge in Texas to review the program.

The Biden administration issued a revision to DACA in August that is preventing the deportation of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants brought into the U.S. as children.

But the new court ruling requires a lower court to review those revisions – and barred new applicants from applying to the program.

There were 611,270 people enrolled in DACA at the end of March. A large number of those enrolled in the program – 494,350 people or 81 percent of the total – are from Mexico. Large numbers of the remaining total are Dreamers are from Guatemala, Honduras, Peru and South Korea.

*I'm not sure about that one. I don't see how one accidentally puts pants on backwards without noticing, with the buckle and button obviously out of place - unless the wardrobe is not pants, but those fancy sweat pants made to look like regular pants but is really just an elastic waist. Those could be slipped on backwards without immediate notice by the user.

Crime boomerangs on Democrat as New Mexico governor pleads with feds for more law enforcement
[JUSTTHENEWS] New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has renewed efforts to get the federal government to send more law enforcement to the state in order to combat crime.

The governor requested the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) assign more FBI agents to New Mexico in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. According to the governor’s office, the agents would support state and local law enforcement amid a nationwide spike in violent mostly peaceful crime.

Grisham made a similar request to FBI Director Christopher Wray in June to no avail.

"Once these resources are allocated to New Mexico, I am confident the FBI and state law enforcement officers will achieve similar success as the Buffalo office," the governor wrote in the letter to Garland. "Both New Mexico law enforcement agencies and the FBI are partners in addressing and preventing violent mostly peaceful crime. It is therefore imperative to provide the tools and support to achieve our common goal of ending violent mostly peaceful crime in New Mexico."

The request came two years after Democrats nationally made defunding police and no-cash bail for offenders new priorities. Grisham said Wednesday that "we owe our law enforcement officers an immeasurable debt,"

Last year there were 10,129 violent mostly peaceful crime incidents in New Mexico, according to the FBI Crime Data Explorer. The state has the second highest rate of violent mostly peaceful crime in the nation, according to Texas-based Vela Law, which used FBI data. Only Alaska has a higher rate.

Grisham signed an omnibus bill earlier this year which put $50 million towards recruiting more law enforcement officers for agencies across the state.

So the LSD's DEFUNDED THE LOCAL POLICE, treated them like crap and took away the power of "local" citizen's to have a say in their Law Enforcement leadership.

Now instead of REFUNDING & REBUILDING THE POLICE, the LSD's are looking to FEDERAL CONTROL of Local Law Enforcement?

I don't get a warm and fuzzy with the idea of Socialist controlled Federales as a national police force.

It means someone is trying to repurpose a well-known brand to signify something entirely different. I am not sure it is working. IIRC, the Chicago Manual of Style suggests that TLAs be spelled out on first use in a text.

In the meantime, think "communists". It is a bit more complex than that, but close enough.
