Former ICE Director To Dems: Have You Consoled The Small Child Or Spouse Of A Fallen Officer?
[The Federalist] Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Thomas Homan testified before Congress on Friday to explain why the agency under his watch did what they had to do in order to secure the border and save lives. Appearing before hostile Democratic representatives who were clearly there to score political points, Homan proved himself to be courageous, tough, and well quite frankly an American patriot. Watching his testimony made it clear that certain members of Congress were unprepared in dealing with Homan and his staunch defense of American borders as well his support for the men and women of border patrol who risk their lives each day.

As reported by Nate Madden of The Blaze, Homan's opening statement made it clear from the getgo that he was not going to tolerate any slandering of him and his officers.

#1  Whose bright idea was it to call Mr. Homan as a witness, and why did they keep questioning him after he reduced Rep. Garcia to a pile of molten ash? The old saying is that cross-examination is more often suicidal than homicidal.
Posted by: Matt || 07/15/2019 10:28 Comments || Top||

#2  Homan also slammed all members of Congress for not wanting to fix the border. "There's no downside on having a secure border; there is no downside on having less illegal immigration; there's no downside on less illegal drugs coming into this country; there's no downside in stopping the bankrolling of criminal cartels in Mexico that smuggle both people and drugs," Homan added. "I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat, you should want to secure our border."

Word.

AOC's Brain
[Spectator] Nancy Pelosi is obviously having difficulty controlling the increasingly acrimonious infighting between factions of the House Democratic caucus. Most observers assume that the primary cause of this discord is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the cadre of far-left first-termers collectively known as "the Squad."

But its actual source is Saikat Chakrabarti, the prime mover behind a Tennessee-based PAC called the "Justice Democrats," whose support was largely responsible for getting Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ro Khanna, and Pramila Jayapal elected last November. Chakrabarti has now set up shop in the House, ostensibly as AOC's chief of staff.

Chakrabarti's previous HQ was a Knoxville address out of which the Justice Democrats and another PAC operated side by side with a dozen congressional campaign committees. This arrangement flouted a variety of campaign finance laws and prompted several Federal Election Commission complaints, including one alleging that Chakrabarti set up a $1 million slush fund. ...

Predictably, this presumptuous tweet drew a number of angry responses from various Democrats who had voted for the measure, whereupon Chakrabarti once again betook himself to Twitter and proceeded to accuse his critics of racism:

Instead of "fiscally conservative but socially liberal," let's call the New Democrats and Blue Dog Caucus the "New Southern Democrats." They certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s.

Chakrabarti later deleted that tweet, but not before it had clearly signaled who actually calls the shots in AOC's office. There isn't the slightest possibility that a 33-year-old staffer in the office of a first-term U.S. congresswoman would even consider publicly criticizing the Democratic colleagues of his putative boss ‐ much less the leadership of her caucus ‐ if he feared any serious consequences. Can you imagine what would happen to a staffer in GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw's office who had posted a tweet insulting the freshman congressman's Republican colleagues? The staffer would be lucky to escape with his life, much less his job. The best he could hope for would be the cardboard box treatment.

But that's not what happened to Chakrabarti. He not only remained on the job, but he was also encouraged by AOC in a series of typically incoherent tweets. A week after the above-quoted tweets Chakrabarti took to Twitter yet again and openly admonished Nancy Pelosi ‐ who was first elected to Congress when he was still in diapers and also happens to be the Speaker of the House ‐ for her eminently sensible reluctance to pursue a politically suicidal impeachment inquiry into President Trump's fictitious crimes. In another tweet posted the same day, he ridicules Pelosi's legislative acumen and compares her supposed deficiencies to the "strategic smarts" of the weird sisters of the Squad:

All these articles want to claim what a legislative mastermind Pelosi is, but I'm seeing way more strategic smarts from freshman members like @AOC, @IlhanMN, @RashidaTlai and @AyannaPressley. Pelosi is just mad that she got outmaneuvered (again) by Republicans.

Chakrabarti doesn't see himself as a mere staffer in some congresswoman's office. He sees AOC as someone who provides him with a headquarters from which he can "fundamentally change" the Democratic Party. As the magazine's profile phrases it, "Saikat Chakrabarti isn't just running her office. He's guiding a movement."

What does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez think about all this? It isn't her job to think. That's Chakrabarti's function. Her job is to provide him with a platform to carry out his grandiose political schemes.

Whenever you hear AOC say something outrageous, remember that Saikat Chakrabarti is behind the curtain, furiously pushing buttons, spinning dials, and pumping the smoke machine.

#1  The article gives him too much credit. He's just an ambitious techie and is probably only interested in siphoning off millions from her. It won't even matter if she's nudged out by the old guard. He came here after managing crazy Bernie's wayward ship. He'll move on to the next 'Barbie' they raise.

Incidentally, Saikat's father, Samir Chakrabarti has donated an undisclosed amount to some charities owned by his own relatives from 2016 till the time the whole FEC thingy blew up.

#2  When the honourable Representative first appeared on the scene, there were stories that she’d showed up to a cattle call for the role of of congressperson, and was the one hired. As I recall, her brother was quoted saying so.

Inslee says he'll ask soccer player Megan Rapinoe to be secretary of State
[THEHILL] Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said Saturday that if he is elected president, he will ask soccer player Megan Rapinoe to be his secretary of state.

He said at the progressive Netroots Nation conference that one of his first acts as president would be to get a secretary of State who embraces world unity and "love rather than hate" as he rebuked President Trump's foreign policy.

"My first act will be to ask Megan Rapinoe to be my secretary of State," he said. "I haven't asked her yet, so this could be a surprise to her."

"I actually believe this because what I think what she has said that has inspired us so much is such an antithesis of the president's foreign policies," he added.

Hickenlooper refuses to condemn protesters who hoisted Mexican flag at ICE facility
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] 2020 long-shot John Hickenlooper
... former governor of Colorado, yet another of 2020's innumerable Dem candidates. His selling points include being less grabby than Biden, less Cherokee than Warren, assuming that's possible, and taller than Gillebrand...
refused to condemn the protesters who removed an American flag and replaced it with a Mexican one during a protest outside an Immigration Customs Enforcement facility in Colorado.

Protesters assembled at the Aurora facility Friday to protest the widespread ICE raids that were scheduled to begin Sunday. Raising the Mexican flag after taking down the American flag, they also hoisted a Blue Lives Matter flag they had vandalized. The flag, which is meant to honor law enforcement, was spray-painted with the phrase "Abolish I.C.E."

Hickenlooper, a former governor of Colorado, addressed the events in a Sunday interview on Fox News' America's News Headquarters.

"Is that is something that, as a moderate, needs to be condemned?" Leland Vittert asked, in regards to the protest.

"I certainly respect the American flag. In my whole life I have been fighting to make this country and to make sure that this country welcomes everyone and that the flag represents everyone. I’m old enough I remember when people were burning the flag in protest of the Vietnam War," Hickenlooper answered. "The amazing thing about this country is we are the one place on Earth, or one of the few places on Earth, where that level of freedom of speech is still protected so I may not approve of it, but I think that that freedom is something we as Americans should recognize and say, 'Hey, that’s part of our core freedom.'"
He doesn't "approve" of it, see, but he won't "condemn" it. I don't approve of it, therefore I condemn it. But maybe that's just me.

#2  When aggressors get the idea that you won't defend your country they'll keep pushing. Next thing you know they'll be raising their flag every morning for real over the Colorado state capital building and Hickenlooper will salute it.

#3  These protesters left no doubt about their end game. It was an act of war and Hickenlooper calls it freedom of speech so now we know whose side he's on.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Troll Level: EPIC
[RedState] Yesterday morning Donald Trump sent out a series of tweets that according to some, appeared to target 4 recently elected Democrat Congresswomen. My good friend and colleague Bonchie reported on this here. I also did a hot take on it, here. My response to Bonchie yesterday, was meant to convey the idea that Trump’s tweets weren’t a bad thing but were likely a good thing.

Given a night to reflect, I’ve decided to "revise and extend my remarks," so to speak. I now believe that the President has indeed reached Troll Level: Epic. As expected, the left went nuts over yesterday’s series of tweets. As also expected, the epithet they immediately started screeching was, "Racist!" Of course that’s just hogwash. As Neil Boortz used to opine, "It’s not the color, it’s the culture." What sane person wants to import the culture of Mogadishu to Detroit? Wait. Never mind.

#1  Trump is a troll master. He knows how to get a reaction from people and the reaction from the left is consistent hysteria/offended screeching.

Not only does he distract them by throwing poo over the wall, he forced Nancy to stop being a stabilizing influence against AOC and forced her to rush to her defense in a very public way.

Trump knows how to maximize chaos against those that oppose him and he makes the most of it.

#4  He's trapping the Left in to making it an election between America and the Anti-Americans. They're playing into the gambit.

Government
How a Criminal Justice Reform Became an Enrichment Scheme
BLUF:
[Politico] Alexandria, La.‐Bruce Kelly has been treasurer of Rapides Parish for three years and was assistant treasurer for 27 before that.

Over the past three years, the DA’s intake from court fines had dropped from $900,000 to about $500,000 in 2017. According to Kelly’s calculations, the number of traffic tickets issued‐the DA office’s primary source of fine income‐had also dropped, from an average of 12,000 per year to 7,000. Kelly found it curious that the DA’s office was requesting so much money from the parish, while seemingly cutting down on one of its main money sources.

And there were signs that the DA’s office, despite its big ask, wasn’t short on cash: It had a fleet of new cars with leather seats. Kelly went through old state audits and other public information, and came to the conclusion that Terrell’s office was bringing in plenty of money but keeping it for itself.

He was right. Under Terrell, the DA’s office, as shown by public documents, had ramped up its "pretrial diversion" program, also sometimes called "pretrial intervention," or PTI. As the website for the Rapides Parish DA’s office explains, the program provides "nonviolent offenders an opportunity to avoid conviction and incarceration" through "tailored" agreements in which the offenders pay money in exchange for their charges being dropped and their cases dismissed. In the program’s simplest form, instead of receiving and paying speeding tickets, offenders were paying fees not to get tickets. And those fees were going directly to the DA’s office‐whose website features a prominent MAKE A PAYMENT button.
