Yasser blathers on about Palestinian state

  • President-for-Life Yasser Arafat said he will keep seeking a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital even if it cost him his life. "We do not know how to retreat, we know how to advance," Arafat said in impassioned remarks to a group of Palestinian intellectuals in Ramallah. "The Palestinian state will be established with al-Quds al-Sharif (East Jerusalem) as its capital. By God I see it coming, martyred or alive. May God give me the honor of martyrdom in my steadfastness for Jerusalem."
    Seems like everybody else has been martyring themselves, while Yasser socks it away in his Swiss bank account. And Yasser, a retreat is a legitimate tactical move; sometimes it's called for to preserve your force or to improve your position. (F'instance, read up on Wellington's Peninsula campaign.)
