13 killed in Jammu & Kashmir
2002-03-02
  • Thirteen people, including five snuffies, three children and a woman, were killed and two wounded in violence in Jammu and Kashmir, where a self-styled supreme commander of Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen was among 12 arrested by security forces since Friday night.

Three militants, including a Pakistani national, were killed in an encounter with security forces during search operations at Wahabpora in Badgam district of central Kashmir on Saturday. A woman was also killed when she was caught in the shootout, the spokesman said. He said two Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Magota village of Rajouri district early on Saturday. The militants were identified as Tahir Tabasum and Mohammad Qasim both residents of Chakwal in Pakistan.

In another incident, three children were killed when a bomb exploded in a cattle shed in Ghambir Muglan area in border district of Poonch on Friday evening, the spokesman said.

A couple was found killed by militants in Udhampur distric on Saturday. A Special Police Officer Jalaluddin was shot dead by some unidentified hard boys in Gool area of Udhampur.
The Tehreek appears to be the shock troops of Lashkar-e-Taiba. They have more sophisticated equipment and better training.
