Israeli Planes Strike Gaza Strip
2002-07-14
Israeli aircraft fired missiles and destroyed a building in the southern Gaza Strip on Sunday, injuring about 10 Palestinians, witnesses and hospital officials said. Three Israeli helicopters and two fighter planes were in the sky at the time of the strike on the three-story building in Qarara, near the town of Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, witnesses said. Residents said the building was empty at the time of the attack but that the flying debris injured about 10 people. Three were taken to the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and seven were treated at the scene, witnesses said. Firefighters put out the ensuing blaze. The reason for the attack was not clear.
This story's from the Associated Press, by Ibrahim Barzak. It's understandable that Barzak's views on the matter make it into his writing. But the editors at the Baltimore Sun must have simply dumped this in raw, without reading it. Remember, the reason for the attack's not at all clear...
A member of the militant Hamas movement, Ahmed Abdel Wahab, had lived in the building until his death several months ago.
Did they want to blow the house because a bad guy used to live there? I doubt it...
A relative, Yusef Abdel Wahab, is a member of Hamas' military wing and has been living in the building. He left only moments before Sunday's strike and was not harmed.
Nope. Still can't seem to figger why they rocketed the place. Sorry...
The air strike followed Palestinian mortar attacks Saturday night and Sunday morning at the Jewish settlement of Kfar Darom. No one was hurt at the settlement, just a few miles from the scene of the air strike.
Ummm... Nope. Still searching for a reason... Oh. Could that be it? Nawww...
