Terrorists planning attack on RP embassy in Jakarta |
2002-07-14 |
International terrorists are planning to bomb the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, senior police and military intelligence officers revealed. Indonesia-based groups, Ribitutal Mujahideen (RM) and Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) are planning to attack the embassy to avenge the arrests and sentencing in Manila of two comrades. Fathur Al Ghozi and Agus Dwikarna have seen separately convicted for possession of explosives, which were reportedly earmarked for major terrorist attacks. Ghozi is a member of JI and Dwikarna of RM. At a briefing in Camp Aguinaldo, a senior military source, claimed the bombing plan had the blessing of Riduan Isamudin, alias Hambali, a senior Indonesian militant. âThey have been planning to bomb the Philippine interest long before (the sentencing this month of Dwekarna),â the officer said. The Philippine National Police Anti-TerroÂrism Task Force is now coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs to tighten security at the embassy. Being Islamists, it's necessary to get revenge, preferably bloody revenge, when one can't have one's way... |
