| Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres made his first visit to Egypt - a key mediator in the conflict - in more than year, and he and his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Maher, showed sharp differences over how to end the deadlock. During talks with Peres, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak invited Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to meet at a Sinai resort. There was no immediate response from either side to the offer, but a source in Sharon's office suggested no meeting was possible as long as violence continued. "Our position has always been that we will negotiate with someone who's a partner for peace, not someone who shoots at you," the source said. Ummm... Don't think that answer was definite enough. I assume it was generated by Peres. Sharon should respond, "Yasser who?" and whack that camel real hard, right on the nose. |
