| Pearl case suspect said to be among Karachi shootout dead |

| Police suspect one of the two men killed in a shootout in the Defence area Wednesday was involved in the kidnap and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Informed sources told the Daily Times Friday that both men died in the encounter with the police and the intelligence agencies personnel were of Arab origin. A senior police official requesting anonymity said they were Yemenis. So's al-Shibh. The Yemenis seem to hang together... The bodies of the two men have been kept at a secluded and well-protected corner of the Edhi mortuary. The sources said an "informer" had told police investigators that one of the dead men was possibly involved in the Daniel Pearl case. Small world, isn't it? The two bodies will be shown to a man who guided the police to a shallow grave on May 17 in the Gadap area to exhume Pearl’s remains, the sources said. None of the officials in the police and other law-enforcement agencies disclosed the names of the dead suspects. Nor did they confirm reports published in some local evening newspapers that the names are Mohammad Khalid and Saleh Ibrahim. Would that maybe be Khalid Sheikh Mohammad? Still too early to ululate; it's a pretty common name combination. But he and al-Shibh were last seen at the same place...
