Russia waffles toward the U.S. side...
2002-10-02
Russia signaled a slight shift toward Washington on its Iraq policy on Wednesday, saying it would consider backing new U.N. resolutions if arms inspectors needed them. "If any extra resolutions are required for the effective work of the inspectors we, of course, are ready to consider them," Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov told reporters.
"Can we kick the crap out of Georgia now?"
Ivanov made his comments after Iraq agreed on Tuesday to re-admit the U.N. inspectors, who left in 1998. He said the Security Council, where Russia has a veto, could pass additional resolutions only after it had heard a report by chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix, set for Thursday. By leaving open the possibility of Russian support for new U.N. resolutions, Ivanov appeared to be taking a step toward Washington's demands for a much tougher stance toward Iraq.
"Only after the new resolution's passed. And you have to wait until the shootin's started before you do."
"Can we make faces at them 'til then?"
"Yeah, but remember what Mom said: 'Be careful, or your face will stay that way.'"

#1  The Ruskies are owed $8 billion by the Saddamites. I guess they met the "Accounts Receivables Dept." (AKA: U.S. Special Forces).
