Israel Says It Arrests Pro-Iraq Leader in W. Bank |
2002-10-02 |
Israeli security sources said Wednesday that undercover forces arrested the Palestinian leader of a pro-Iraqi faction in the West Bank responsible for giving financial support to families of suicide bombers. The sources said that the Arab Liberation Front's Rakad Salem was responsible for distributing money sent from Iraq to support Palestinians wounded or killed in a two-year-old uprising against Israeli occupation. He was detained in the West Bank city of Ramallah, they said. The group's support includes allocations of up to $25,000 to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers who have killed scores of Israelis in the uprising, an activity Israel says helps encourage more youths to join the ranks of the bombers. The Arab Liberation Front is an Iraqi-sponsored Palestinian faction which was established in 1969 as a guerrilla group to influence the Palestinian resistance movement. They don't seem intent on killing themselves to rid Israel of Israelis, but they're not bad at handing out checks cut on somebody else's account. Sammy's proxies should be rounded up on general principles, seems to me... Thanks to Steve for this one... |
