Peaceniks stage political event in Baghdad church...
2002-12-25
"The road to deter injustice, aggression and wickedness of the evil-minded is the road of jehad (holy war) and struggle," Saddam Hussein said.

The mood, however, was different at St Rafael's Catholic Church in downtown Baghdad, where about 120 people, including Iraqi Christians and American peace activists, came together for Christmas eve mass. "We're here to pray and sing for peace," said Elias Amidon, 58, a professor of environmental studies from Colorado. "The world has many diplomatic and non-violent means to solve its differences," he said. With fears building that America will wage war on Iraq, Amidon and other members of the US and British-based Iraq Peace Team have travelled to Baghdad to call for a peaceful solution to the crisis and have harsh economic sanctions imposed on Iraq since the 1991 Gulf War lifted.
Good to see that the cannon fodder of the peace movement is now in Baghdad to show their solidarity with Sammy. You guys pray and sing for peace, and Sammy will take care of you after the war's been won.
