France Suggests Tripling Iraq Inspectors
2003-02-05
France maintained its opposition to war against Iraq despite Secretary of State Colin Powell's presentation to the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday, instead proposing that weapons inspections be strengthened. French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin suggested tripling the number of inspectors and placing a full-time monitor in Baghdad to oversee the process.
Sure. That'll work. Tripling their numbers should make them three times as effective. That's, ummm... what's 0 x 3? Anybody remember?
"The use of force can only be a final recourse," de Villepin told a special U.N. Security Council session attended by 12 other foreign ministers. "We must move on to a new stage and further strengthen the inspections." De Villepin said France would carefully review the evidence provided by Powell, but he emphasized that inspections were working and had resulted in major achievements.
May we have a list, please?

#4  Inspections worked, they proved Saddam was unwilling to disarm. Tripling the inspectors will certainly confirm that he's three times as unwilling to disarm but I'm not sure what that will get us except another trip to the UN so everyone can beg for handouts from the US to vote for something that is in their best interests in the first place.

#3  Let them have all the inspectors they want. They just need to know that their window of inspection will just be for a few more weeks, then it transitions to the window of the human shield. "Their safety is not our responsibility." The foreign embassy folks have already taken the hint.

#2  Can't we just stop worrying about what France says or thinks? It gives them far more status that they deserve. How the heck did those losers ever get a U.N. Security Council veto anyway?

#1  I suggest increasing the number of inspectors by about 250,000 and arming them to the teeth. I believe the United States would be willing to provide the manpower and equipment.

Betcha the come up with some interesting stuff.
