PESHAWAR: In what is seen as a positive response to Islamabadâs concern over the May 23 damage done to the billboards by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) activists, the MMA government on Friday suspended three top police officers, allegedly for negligence of duty.
So now are they gonna do the same in Multan, too? | A senior police officer told Daily Times on Friday the Services and Establishment Department had suspended Zafarullah Khan, Abdul Kalam and Abdul Samad for failing to stop the JI activists from damaging the billboards and for not arresting the culprits. The MMA government also transferred Sajjad Afridi directing him to report to the Central Police Office, Peshawar, immediately. âThey have been suspended till further orders,â he said.
Yeah. Right. That'll take care of the problem, won't it? | One of the suspended police officers called the action unjustified. âNeither the provincial government nor the district government had issued a directive on how to deal with the situation,â he said requesting anonymity. The suspensions were followed by Chief Minister Akram Durrani's dash to Islamabad for a meeting with Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali. |
