âQaedaâ website slams Iraqi council | |
2003-10-12 | |
A spokesman for al-Qaeda in Afghanistan has condemned Iraqâs Governing Council and urged attacks on Iraqi clerics âalliedâ to the United States, Islamist websites said. âWe salute our mujahedeen brothers in Iraq and tell them: may God bless your jihad,â said military spokesman Abu Abdul Rahman al-Najdi in comments broadcast on the www.marsad.org.uk and http://alsaha.fares.net websites. âDo not wait for the Governing Council, this agent and infidel, to solve the nationâs problems,â he added. âWe tell all our mujahedeen brothers in Iraq: kill all Sunni ulemas (religious scholars) that ally themselves with the Americans ... and kill all satanic ayatollahs among the Shiites, at their head Mohammad Bahr al-Ulum and his like,â said Najdi. Bahr al-Ulum, a leading Shia cleric, is part of the interim Governing Council. Najdi also denounced Shia leader Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi, who was the target of a foiled assassination attempt on September 8. Najafiâs son Ali said at the time that the man accused of the attack was arrested and handed over to US forces after he âconfessed to killing two American soldiers.â âYou will never escape Allahâs wrath and that of the mujahedeen,â vowed Najafi.

#5 Interesting that they don't even try to attribute the quote to OBL. I can only assume that he was unavailable for comment. |

#3 ...and kill all satanic ayatollahs among the Shiites. Boy, this guy really knows how to make friends & influence people, last time I checked Iraq was ~ 60% Shi'a so I can kinda imagine that comment going down like a lead balloon there. Hopefully this rant will find it's way into some Iraqi newspapers, particularly those read in the south of the country. Bahr-al Ulum, isn't that Arabic for 'Ocean of Knowledge'? Modest sort of bloke isn't he? |

#1 That poor man has some serious root causes. Let's build him a coffee shop or something to cheer him up. I shudder to think how difficult it must be to find a decent latte in that region. I'd be mad too. |
