Three homemade explosive devices went off in the area of Pioneer Street in Rochester on Tuesday night, injuring three youths as well as two city police officers who had responded after the first explosion. All of the injuries were minor, said Sgt. Steve Ward. He did not release the names or ages of any of the injured.
The bombs appeared to have been made of plastic bottles with corrosive material, Ward said. Police were called to Pioneer Street â off Brooks Avenue â about 9:20 p.m. for a report of âsuspicious noise,â Ward said. Two more explosions occurred once police arrived. Rochester firefighters decontaminated all of the injured at the scene.
Police did not have anyone in custody late Tuesday. Ward said the injured youths âmay have knowledgeâ of the explosions, but he said police would get them any needed medical attention before deciding whether charges would be filed. |
