| Al-Qaeda recruiting Honduran converts to Islam |

| The Islamic terror organization al-Qaida could be training several Honduran citizens who have converted to Islam to recruit them into their militia, Honduran Security Minister Oscar Alvarez said Tuesday. At a press conference in the capital Tegucigalpa, Alvarez said several Honduran citizens who study at local mosques received scholarships to travel to Middle East countries to study Islam, but they might be trained to join the terror group. "We are investigating because we do not want these people to later return brainwashed and carry out terror acts in our country," he added. The minister said the probes were jointly conducted by the Honduran Security Ministry and the General Attorney's Office Against Organized Crime. |
