2004-05-28 |
A militant leader linked to the murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl and associated with Al-Qaeda number three Khalid Sheikh Mohammad masterminded two plots to kill President Pervez Musharraf last year, a senior security official said today. Amjad Farooqi, a fugitive leader of the Harkatul Jihad Islami, was identified by the official as the "very clever" Pakistani mastermind President Pervez Musharraf referred to in a television interview. "Investigators have conclusively established that Amjad Farooqi hatched the plot to kill the President, with the prompting and assistance of the Al-Qaeda terror network," the official, who could not be identified, told AFP. "A nationwide hunt is on to arrest the suspect, but we have not met success yet." |
