A bomb explosion wounded a Palestinian Fatah official and his daughter at a refugee camp in south Lebanon Wednesday, security sources said. The man, who was not identified, was wounded when gunmen tossed a hand grenade at his home in the Safsaf neighborhood in Ein el-Hilweh, the largest of 12 Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. The incident reflected divisions within Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement, the sources said. Ein el-Hilweh, home to some 70,000 Palestinian refugees, is outside the control of Lebanese authorities and has turned into a haven for outlaws and criminals in the last few years.
Also Wednesday, thousands of Palestinian refugees demonstrated in another Lebanon camp in support of Arafat whose authority was challenged two days ago by rebellious Fatah members in Gaza who are demanding an end to rampant corruption in PA institutions. The protesters raised giant pictures of Arafat as they shouted "Yes for President Arafat, Yes for national unity under Arafat ... We will not accept any replacement for him."
