An imam raped and indecently assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a Bristol mosque, a court has been told. Religious teacher Manzoor Hussain, 42, of Ashley Street, St Pauls, is accused of attacking the teenager when she came to the Montpellier mosque for lessons. Mr Hussain denies one count of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault on the girl between July 1996 and March 1997. A jury at Bristol Crown Court has heard the youngster was left "terrified, confused and frightened" by the ordeal. The alleged victim, now in her 20s, did not confide in anyone about what had happened until she went to the police last year. On Tuesday the girl's mother, who cannot be named, told the court her daughter's behaviour had changed at the time of the assaults. She said: "She was upset and very quiet and I assumed it was mood swings. She didn't tell me about any particular problem." The woman said her daughter had been a good student who had never been in trouble, but that she later rebelled against her religion and her parents. The case continues. |
