Indians kill local commander of Kashmir's largest militant group
2005-05-28
Security forces on Friday killed a local commander of Kashmir's largest terrorist militant group in a gunfight in the Indian-controlled portion of the disputed Himalayan region, police said. Indian army soldiers killed Yusuf Shaikh, a top terrorist fighter of the Hezb-ul Mujahedeen group, during a gunfight in Ratsun, about 35 kilometers (20 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu-Kashmir state, a police officer said on condition of anonymity. Shaikh was one of the few Hezb terrorist commanders who had been with the insurgency since it began in 1989, he said.
Didn't quite cash in on his pension, did he?
Thousands of fools people assembled at his village nearby to protest the killing and attend his funeral.
My mind's not Islamic enough to figure what grounds you have for protesting the killing of somebody in a gunfight...

The security forces' vehicle bore the brunt of the explosion, resulting in injuries to seven CRPF personnel, the sources said adding 11 pedestrains also suffered splinter injuries in the attack.

#7  Well, at least he wasn't packing any Samurai - those guys can be mean...

The attackers managed to escape leaving two arms — a gun and a shutter gun — four bullets, four cartridges, one Chinese axe and three samurai, the police said.

#5  A mass murderer too.
I wonder if that entitles him to more than the 72 virgins and 20 young boys?

"Muhammad Yusuf Sheikh alias Sajad was on the most wanted list of the security forces. He was active for the last 10 years. He was also responsible for 74 killings of civilians and political activists," said a senior police official.

Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines and some grenades from the possession of the slain guerrilla.

#4  Meanwhile on Saturday, so called muslim "rebels" (most of whom are in fact Pakistani nationals) throw a grenade at a busy market.

Kashmiris rush two injured children to a hospital after a grenade explosion in Srinagar May 28, 2005. Suspected Muslim rebels detonated a grenade in a market in Indian Kashmir on Saturday, wounding more than a dozen people, police said.
