Jordan PM plans cabinet reshuffle

AMMAN - Jordanian Prime Minister Adanan Badran is planning a cabinet reshuffle in days in a bid to win a parliamentary vote of confidence denied him since he formed his government in April, officials said on Sunday. Badran’s cabinet has vowed to step up the pace of reform, but it came under attack from a group of 49 MPs in the 110-member parliament who threatened a no-confidence vote unless the economic team was changed. Finance minister Bassem Awadallah, who was the target of criticism in parliament over the dismal state of Jordan’s economy, resigned earlier this month, paving the way for the reshuffle. The new line-up will see veteran diplomat Marwan Moasher -- currently a royal court minister -- return as deputy prime minister, a job he held in the former government of Faisal al-Fayez.
Badran has been busy holding consultations with MPs ahead of the reshuffle and King Abdullah II has also held several meetings with political parties representatives over the past few weeks.
