King Fahd in 'stable condition'

Ailing Saudi King Fahd, who has been in hospital since May 27, was in stable condition, a Saudi official said Wednesday night, following rumours that his condition had deteriorated or that he had even died. "The state of the king is stable; he has actually been getting better," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Rumours of the king's health had earlier caused the Saudi stock exchange to drop 3.2 percent and also hit the dollar on foreign exchange markets. A medical source contacted by AFP said there had not been "any change in the condition of King Fahd" since his hospitalisation.
