 A Ugandan army spokesman said soldiers had killed the chief of staff of the Lords Resistance Army and the eldest son of the leader of the rebel group in a battle last month. "The LRA command structure is finished. The rebels are now operating as individuals. Many have given up war while others have been killed," said Lieutenant Colonel Shaban Bantariza.

He also announced that the rebels had killed at least 10 civilians in a separate attack on Sunday. In a battle on June 14 in Palabek village, about 290 miles north of the capital, Kampala, soldiers killed Major General Owor Lakati and an unspecified number of rebels including the eldest son of Joseph Kony, the LRA's leader, he said.
